Book excerpt: Brother Andrew's ministry began with smuggling Bibles behind the Iron Curtain. His phenomenally successful book God's Smuggler was born from that mission. But as communism in Eastern Europe declined, Brother Andrew shifted his focus to strengthening the Christian church within the Islamic world. In a time when a mass exodus of Christians has drained the Middle East of God's light, Brother Andrew headed into this war-torn land to bring hope and encouragement to those who remained. Light Force recounts the continuing saga of Brother Andrew's most recent mission. Through dramatic true stories, readers get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at real people affected by the centuries-old conflicts in this volatile part of the world. Now readers can join Brother Andrew and fellow Open Doors missionary Al Janssen in their quest to strengthen God's light in the Middle East. These gripping accounts of Christians caught in the crossfire will captivate readers everywhere.

Book excerpt: "What is present reality" is an incredibly profound but straightforward exposition of the "limits of science." Every scientist wishes that someone will falsify the world crafted using the present body of scientific methods one day. One such world comprises the manifold versions of relativity theories, measuring E = mc2. Suppose one deified scientist had not mathematically derived the value of energy in this way. In that case, today's scientists will not bind their understanding to the light serviced by the deified leader scientist, traded and squared by them as a devoted follower. Evidently, when one conceives energy as mc2, its value—without the presence of the leader deity—is zero. This landmark work, grounded in India’s ancient cultural metaphysics, challenges the present reality of what we know and believe to be true, whether about divinity, or spirituality, or the universe of objects or subjects, or us as a person. A unique feature is the precise quantification of the lightless energies, of both the present reality as well as the varying paradigms and doctrines working on modifying that. It is a part of a series of twelve books that democratizes the ability to understand our present reality, beyond those who are experts in modern science, and use this understanding for personal as well as societal well-being. The beta reviewers note “This is unbelievable work that would change the way life is seen and lived” and “Looking forward to this being a massive success!” Dr. Vipin Gupta has a Ph.D. in managerial science and applied economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a gold medalist from the Post-graduate Program of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India. He is a Professor of sensible management and appropriate science at the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration, California State University San Bernardino, USA.

Book excerpt: Elementary school physical educators looking for expert guidance in designing lessons that are aligned with SHAPE America’s National Standards and Grade-Level Outcomes need look no further. Lesson Planning for Elementary Physical Education works in tandem with SHAPE America’s National Standards & Grade-Level Outcomes for K-12 Physical Education and The Essentials of Teaching Physical Education to provide the knowledge base and practical strategies for creating high-quality elementary physical education curricula. Key Benefits Written by master teachers and edited by the team who oversaw the creation of the National Standards and Grade-Level Outcomes, Lesson Planning for Elementary Physical Education is endorsed by SHAPE America. The text has the following features: • 65 lessons that foster the achievement of physical literacy for children in grades K-5 • Numerous learning experiences that engage students in the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains • Curriculum design based on student growth • Sequential lessons leading to mature patterns of motor performance • An introductory chapter on the key points for the grade span, putting the lessons in context and providing a road map for planning curriculum, units, and lessons • Instruction on creating high-quality lessons that reach the desired objectives Flexible Lessons Teachers can use the lessons as presented or modify them to meet local needs. The lessons provide a structure for teachers to follow in developing their own learning experiences and curricula. For PE majors and minors, the lessons provide the ideal starting point in learning how to plan and deliver effective lessons to become proficient teachers, not just managers of activity. In addition, all lessons and learning experiences reflect best practices in instruction and include scripted cues. The text shows readers how to effectively develop their own lessons—and teachers can use those lessons to show their administrators that their program is designed to meet the specific outcomes developed by SHAPE America. Web Resource Lesson Planning for Elementary Physical Education is supported by a web resource that contains digital versions of all the lesson plans in the book. Teachers can access the lesson plans through a mobile device, and they can download the plans to use later or to print. Overview of Contents Part I of the text offers readers a solid foundation in lesson planning. The authors explore the elements of planning lessons for student learning, show how to meet the National Standards and Grade-Level Outcomes, and guide readers in making the most of every lesson. In part II, readers have access to K-5 lesson plans in health-related fitness, movement concepts, locomotor skills, nonlocomotor skills, and manipulative skills for elementary physical education. Lesson Structure Each lesson corresponds to a category of the outcomes. In addition, the lessons provide deliberate, progressive practice tasks and integrate appropriate assessments for evaluating and monitoring student progress and growth. Great for Current and Future Elementary Teachers Lesson Planning for Elementary Physical Education offers teachers the tools and resources they need in order to guide students toward physical literacy and physically active lifestyles throughout their adult lives. And it does so by aligning with SHAPE America’s National Standards and Grade-Level Outcomes. As such, this is a great resource for both current and future elementary physical education and classroom teachers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The modern works on African philosophy have not been integrated and fully connected to Africa's antiquity in order to provide a foundational unity for further intellectual refinement. The philosophical dimensions of humanism, Nkrumah's concept of categorial conversion, African concepts of duality, polarity, unity, continual creation and democratic ideals must be shown their African-centered origins. In considering African philosophy, there arise conceptual and logical gaps that require the development of fundamental cognitive unity from the available data with judicious interpretation and restructuring in order to define the parameters of African philosophical unity that will allow these gaps to be closed for intellectual continuity. This monograph is devoted to the establishment of the foundations for the development of Africa's intellectual continuity and cognitive unity from antiquity to the present. Its main premise is that there is African philosophy with its own method of reasoning, analysis and synthesis. The monograph initiates self-contained philosophical foundations for African intellectual unity that is required to support African cultural unity, African personality, African essence and humanism needed for the creation of Greater Africa that is implied by African Union. These philosophical foundations, it is argued, formed the thinking system for Africa's social construct, law, economics, politics and governance of empires, kingdoms and social units that have come to pass. These philosophical foundations constitute the thinking system that must guide current and future Africa's socioeconomic dynamics. The monograph discusses also Africa's contributions to the global intellectual heritage by showing the relationships among foundations of African philosophical tradition and other philosophical systems that lead to rediviva Africana. It presents the principles of cognitive unity and continuity on the held position that without clearly developed Africa's philosophical foundations from its antiquity providing intellectual unity and cognitive continuity complete emancipation of Africa will be a mere mimicking of intellectual faults of other nations and philosophical systems. The research by African scholars and others on specific philosophical thoughts from different areas of Africa is useful materials that must be integrated into cognitive unity by accepting those that fit and rejecting those that do not fit by a defined logical process. Mindful of this, a case is thus made in this monograph for African cognitive unity and supporting reasoning methods. The system of ideas and perceptive interpretations of relevant data is, here, referred to as Africentricity, and its philosophical foundations that project thought as polyrhythmicity while the study of logic of reasoning about methodological and epistemic problems of polyrhythmicity and Africentricity is referred to as polyrhythmics. On practical level these philosophical foundations are shown to support the conceptual basis of Nguzo Saba (the Seven Principles of Kwanzaa). The monograph would be of interest to philosophers in general, professionals, researchers and students engaged in African philosophy, African studies, Black studies, socio-political philosophy and those interested in knowing the thinking system on the basis of which African essence arises and African social formations were constructed and governed from antiquity.

This book was released on 2003-12-04 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cold and ultracold collisions occupy a strategic position at the intersection of several powerful themes of current research in chemical physics, in atomic, molecular and optical physics, and even in condensed matter. The nature of these collisions has important consequences for optical manipulation of inelastic and reactive processes, precision measurement of molecular and atomic properties, matter-wave coherences and quantum-statistical condensates of dilute, weakly interacting atoms. This crucial position explains the wide interest and explosive growth of the field since its inception in 1987. The author reviews elements of the quantum theory of scattering theory, collisions taking place in the presence of one or more light fields, and collisions in the dark, below the photon recoil limit imposed by the presence of any light field. Finally, it reviews the essential properties of these mesoscopic quantum systems and describes the key importance of the scattering length to condensate stability.

Book excerpt: The seventh edition of this highly successful textbook analyzes the history, evolution, and processes of national security policies. It examines national security from two fundamental fault lines - the end of the Cold War and the evolution of contemporary terrorism dating from the 9/11 terrorist attacks - and traces their path up to ISIS and beyond. The book considers how the resulting era of globalization and geopolitics guides policy. Placing these trends in conceptual and historical context and following them through military, semimilitary, and nonmilitary concerns, National Security treats its subject as a nuanced and subtle phenomenon that encompasses everything from the global to the individual with the nation at its core. New to the Seventh Edition An assessment of the impact of the Trump presidency on national security and relevant domestic policies, including border security and energy security matters. The continuing impact and evolution of terrorism as a security problem, with notable emphasis on the decline of the Islamic State (IS) and what terrorist threats are likely to succeed it. A description of the cyber security problem with an emphasis on Russian efforts to interfere with the 2016 US presidential election and beyond. A revised delineation of the geographic and substantive challenges facing the United States in the form of a chapter on "lethal landscapes," emphasizing the rise of China as a global rival and opponent in Asia and an attempt to deal with state aspirants like the Kurds. This book will continue to be highly beneficial to students and scholars working and studying in security studies, military and strategic studies, defense studies, foreign policy, US politics and international relations.
