We know her primarily as the woman with whom David committed adultery. But the biblical text tells us much more. Bathsheba was the daughter of Eliam, the widow of Uriah, the wife of David, and the grieving mother of a seven-day-old baby who died tragically. She later gave birth to Solomon and played an instrumental role in claiming and securing the throne on her son's behalf. In this series of lessons, we will observe her transformation. The first lesson, "The Adultress?" considers the familiar story of David and Bathsheba, but it poses the question, "Was Bathsheba a willing participant or an unwitting victim of David's sexual desire?" In the second lesson, we discover that Bathsheba's child is sick and dying, a tiny victim of David's sin. We grieve with Bathsheba and ask "Why?" with her, trying to find comfort, as she did, in the birth of her second baby, Solomon. By the third lesson, Solomon is a grown man. When his brother Adonijah claims the throne, Solomon does not fight for the kingship-Bathsheba does! Finally, in the last lesson, Bathsheba is instrumental in the demise of Adonijah, thereby ensuring that Solomon's throne is no longer contested. Who was Bathsheba? She was a complex figure who developed from the silent object of David's lust into a powerful, vocal, and influential queen mother.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When you're 13 years old, you just are not sure what you have to offer to the world and the Lord. This study guides a young girl down the path of growing into a woman after God's own heart, full of the confidence that can only be found in Him. A Bible study designed especially for girls ages 11-16. Topics covered include Friendship, True Beauty, Forgiveness, Thankfulness, Serving Others, many women of the Bible PLUS much more. The book of Song of Solomon is studied from the point of view that it is God's story of True Love versus Sensual Love. It is a tale of one woman who is desired by two very different men, Solomon and her Beloved Shepherd. Both men want to marry her, but which is right for her? The story is told through the woman's eyes as she tries to make a choice that will effect the rest of her life. Great care is taken to keep the material appropriate to the age group studying the material. The study is designed to be covered over a full school year (when used with optional quizzes, tests, and assignments), but can easily be adapted to your own schedule. Written by a Christian wife and mother. Mrs. Angela Legg home schools her five daughters (girls' ages are 17 years to 4 years old) and takes these lessons very much to heart. She maintains a blog at www.thediligentwoman.com talking about working through every day life in service to the Lord. Many other study ideas may be found there. Our prayer is that this material will be beneficial to both teacher and student!

Using her own translations, Gafney offers a midrashic interpretation of the biblical text that is rooted in the African American preaching tradition to tell the stories of a variety of female characters, many of whom are often overlooked and nameless. Gafney employs a solid understanding of womanist and feminist approaches to biblical interpretation and the sociohistorical culture of the ancient Near East. This unique and imaginative work is grounded in serious scholarship and will expand conversations about feminist and womanist biblical interpretation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Worship is a daunting but important part of discipleship. For that reason, God gave us the Psalms... This collection of hymns and petitions was written over a span of centuries, in many different settings, by kings such as David and Solomon and commoners like Asaph, Heman, and the sons of Korah. Some of the psalms are defiant; others are reverent. Some are meant to be sung; others are to be prayed. Some are intensely personal; others are communal. But all have one purpose—to help us express our hears to God. As you read, study, journal, and discuss the book of Psalms, watch for these key themes that Max will unpack throughout the book: God is worthy of all worship. God will defend his people against their enemies. Being in relationship with God is the key to all joy and security. The Life Lessons with Max Lucado series brings the Bible to life in twelve lessons filled with intriguing questions, inspirational stories, and poignant reflections to take you deeper into God's Word. Each lesson includes: An opening reflection on the Bible book you're studying. Background information to deepen your understanding of the cultural and historical setting. An excerpt of the text (from the NIV and the NKJV). Exploration questions with plenty of room to write your own thoughts and notes. Inspirational thoughts from Max as well as a closing takeaway for further reflection. The Life Lessons series is ideal for use in both a small-group setting or for individual study.

To bring strong and tall buildings to the ground, demolition experts strategically place tiny explosives throughout the structure of a building so that the building will topple on itself. Instead of destroying the building from the outside, they destroy it from within. In the same way many great men and women have imploded, and others are well on their way. Author Eric Geiger offers a sobering reminder that many great and godly people have imploded, and none of us are above the risk. Looking at the story of David’s infamous implosion, readers will learn how to ruin our lives (so we won't), and also how to find hope if we do--as all of us need His grace.

He grew up a shepherd boy and defeated a giant named Goliath and then went on to be King of Israel. While king, David made some serious mistakes. However, David didn't try to place the blame on other people. He took responsibility and shouldered the blame himself. By doing this, he was described by God as a "man after His own heart." In this book, you will learn that God has a good plan for every individual. But sometimes you can thwart that plan by your own desire to fulfill certain desires and dreams but God's grace can bring you back to the plan that God has for you. Even though David made some mistakes and even cost people their lives, he repented and was able to turn the direction of those mistakes to want to serve the Lord. God's grace is evident through the entire life of David. Rather than having to go through your own hard knocks, the author encourages the reader to learn from these life lessons from David
