Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few state issues have attracted as much controversy and national attention as the application of the death penalty in Texas. In the years since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976, Texas has led the nation in passing death sentences and executing prisoners. The vigor with which Texas has implemented capital punishment has, however, raised more than a few questions. Why has Texas been so fervent in pursuing capital punishment? Has an aggressive death penalty produced any benefits? Have dangerous criminals been deterred? Have rights been trampled in the process and, most importantly, have innocents been executed? These important questions form the core of Lethal Injection: Capital Punishment in Texas during the Modern Era. This book is the first comprehensive empirical study of Texas's system of capital punishment in the modern era. Jon Sorensen and Rocky Pilgrim use a wealth of information gathered from formerly confidential prisoner records and a variety of statistical sources to test and challenge traditional preconceptions concerning racial bias, deterrence, guilt, and the application of capital punishment in this state. The results of their balanced analysis may surprise many who have followed the recent debate on this important issue.

Book excerpt: The Title of the Poem is taken as INJECTION having considered the prevailing situations of the Country... COVID-19, Corruption, Raping, Motherhood, Marriage, Kidnapping etc. Infact, who or where is the BROTHER'S KEEPER? The Country needs to be sanitized/sensitized; and there is need for all hands to be on deck. Poems are one way to touch the sensibility of the society, especially through the Youth so that they don't go the wrong direction. Like the proverbial Fish, they could be bent now without breaking while still fresh. With the right dose of INJECTION, we are going to get result. The INJECTION, in this sense, is to be seen as the symbolic representation to appeal to the sensibility of the masses. ...Fadeni, Tolu Cyril.

Book excerpt: This book presents an innovative and environmentally friendly type of excavated earth-based building material, called Shot-Earth. The use of a common excavated earth as a construction material (both for structural and non-structural applications) has many important advantages, the main one being that the soil can be used as a zero kilo and zero cost material, being used in the same place where it is excavated. This volume collects the main results obtained by the research units in the FIRS2019-00245 research project, funded by the Italian Ministry of Research (MUR) and dedicated to the study of Shot-Earth materials. Many of the exposed contributions concern the optimization of the mixture and application technique, which consists in the application of the mixture sprayed on a support (that serves as formwork), with or without reinforcements, by using a pressure pipe (that is by a high-speed projection). This new construction technique allows to quickly realise a variety of structural systems, even with a complex geometry (like vaults, arches, shells, tunnel coatings, underground tanks, waterproofing of walls for landfills and waste storages, slope stabilization, etc.). An additional feature of Shot-Earth is that it can be used to realise high energy-efficient buildings. In particular, this innovative technology can improve the capacity of a building to auto-regulate its interior heat and humidity, increasing indoor environment quality and energy performance and reducing building gas emissions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On a steamy jungle island in the middle of the South China Sea, a new television show is about to come to its shocking conclusion. A small television stage lit by tiki torches illuminates a show host, a jury of seven contestants sitting on tree stumps, and the final two runners-up for a million dollars. It was season one of CBS’s competition show, Survivor, a show that will become one of the longest-running unscripted series—and one of the most beloved. Maria Baltazzi was one of the original supervising producers. Survivor strips its contestants of everything but their wits while they battle it out to see who will be the winner of a life-changing prize. In watching this, Maria realized that the contestants learned things about themselves that they might never have known before. During the production of this show, Maria realized that she could not be her true self until she stripped back the negativity that was clouding her life and made more self-affirming actions that would lead her to what she truly wanted. This book is Maria's insights about being happy learned from her time in the entertainment industry, observing people and events, traveling, and studying wellbeing. Within these pages is a practical guide for a creative path to happiness through taking photographs with your camera phone, journaling about things that matter, and being part of a supportive community. You can create a healthier state of being and have fun doing it. Even when your world turns upside down, you can still be the writer, director, and producer of the life you want.

Book excerpt: Shot, a long-barrel, single-shot rifle, shares stories of intrigue, repose, and character—all as they occurred on Rudy’s farm on the North Dakota prairie. Rudy, himself an endearing soul, returns home from World War II with an artificial limb to operate a vibrant, diversified farm where even routine life is replete with adventures. Picture sheep escaping a burning building, ravaging hogs being loaded for butcher, bulls charging man and vehicles, and horses racing wide-eyed down a country lane. Picture also adventures from wild animals, prairie fires, brutal winters, and marauding dogs. Add in colorful hired men, unforgiving firearms, an even an Indian fight. Shot’s adventures arise from challenges on the farm. Rudy faces them with persistence, compassion, and creativity. His eldest son, Tommy, while dumfounded by Rudy’s resilience, has a variety of his own exploits. Both are consumed by the farm work while at the same time absorbed in perpetual drama, some of which is severe and debilitating. Only with a deep faith in God are they able to thrive. Altogether, Rudy’s farm pops like a television series, with episode after episode. Shot tells his tales—truth is stranger than fiction—with aplomb. He brings you in to feel present and engaged. You’ll enjoy Shot. You’ll never forget his farm.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Antipsychotic Long-acting Injections (LAIs) were introduced in the 1960s to improve treatment adherence in schizophrenia. Subsequently, first-generation antipsychotic LAIs became widely used in many countries. Since the initial publication of Antipsychotic Long-acting Injections in 2010, new trial data have been published on long-acting injection (LAI) preparations of the drugs Risperidone, Paliperidone, and Olanzapine. Furthermore, a new LAI preparation of the drug Aripiprazole has recently been approved for clinical use in the United States and is likely to be approved in Europe soon. The second edition of this successful book has been fully updated to include this new data, with reference to both observational studies and randomized controlled trials, as well as other new developments in the clinical use of antipsychotic LAIs. New chapters have been added covering the comparison between oral and injectable antipsychotics, Olanzapine LAI, Aripiprazole LAI, and the practicalities of organizing a specialized clinic for long-acting injectable antipsychotics. Existing chapters have also been thoroughly updated to take into account the most recently published research. Antipsychotic Long-acting Injections, Second edition brings together clinical and research findings on LAIs in a comprehensive volume, with chapters written by international experts.
