Download or read book Rape Cultures and Survivors written by Tuba Inal and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2018-07-11 with total page 605 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An in-depth treatment in two volumes of the historical and cultural contexts of rape and rape culture, this set discusses both victims and perpetrators internationally during war and peace times and examines the treatment of survivors. Historically, women, men, and children have all suffered sexual violence, during wartime and peacetime as well as inside and outside their homes. This two-volume title focuses on survivors of rape in a variety of social and cultural contexts. It examines different people who are victimized in a variety of situations (including in war and prisons) and studies the particularities of "rape cultures" that are intertwined with ethnic cultures and hatreds and other forms of conflictual social, political, and economic relations. In the introduction, the editors define rape and rape culture and provide historical and cultural context for the information presented throughout the volumes, the first of which primarily focuses on the causes and manifestations of rape cultures; the second considers the consequences of rape cultures for survivors of sexual assault. In both volumes, contributors provide case studies elucidating the experiences of a variety of victims—young, old, male, female, straight, and LGBT—in diverse locations around the world to help readers understand how truly pervasive and portentous rape culture is.

Book Synopsis A Socio-Criminological Analysis of the HIV Epidemic by : Bruno Meini
Download or read book A Socio-Criminological Analysis of the HIV Epidemic written by Bruno Meini and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on 2020-10-06 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the world of the 21st century, epidemics are common biological and social occurrences, with HIV perhaps emphasising this better than any other disease. Medical scientific research has undoubtedly made significant steps forward; meanwhile, the social research field is still in its initial stages, with many awaiting an equally auspicious response. A Socio-Criminological Analysis of the HIV Epidemic offers a comprehensive analysis of the multifaceted socio-criminological dimensions of the HIV epidemic and positively contributes to the ongoing sociological debate on infectious diseases. The author intends to create an independent epistemology of HIV to explicate the social forces that impact and determine the course and experience of the epidemic, while also seeking to reframe the popular discourse on HIV to reflect sociological conceptualisations. This latter step leads to the identification of the concept of social interaction as an appropriate tool for highlighting the complex social nature of this virus. The unprecedented challenge posed by the epidemic for the international community calls for global cooperation aimed at evaluating the diverse aspects of the issues that many actors in this tragic drama must deal with. Given its wide-reaching international appeal, this book is also recommended for those involved or interested in global health issues and infectious diseases. It will be of particular interest to medical researchers, health workers, social scientists, social workers, policymakers, humanitarian workers, HIV and human rights activists, and graduate students.
Download or read book Legal Feminism written by Anna Simone and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-09-30 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume offers an overview of the theories and practices of Italian legal feminism, presenting both the main themes addressed and the main protagonists of Italian feminist legal theory. The book is divided into two parts. The first is dedicated to deepening crucial issues that directly concern women’s knowledge and lives from a feminist perspective, such as the interconnection between law, rights and justice; diversity, difference and equality; sex, sexuality and reproduction; citizenship and borders; deviance, criminal matters and security; and victims, victimology, and vulnerability. Each set of thematic issues is analysed by a current Italian feminist legal scholar, who engages with multiple feminist voices in order to emphasise the need for an interdisciplinary approach to law from a feminist perspective. The second part of the book is devoted to outlining the paths of study, research and practice of specific and renowned Italian legal scholars who have provided the foundation for legal feminism in Italy: Letizia Gianformaggio, Tamar Pitch, Silvia Niccolai, and Lia Cigarini. The book thereby offers, for the first time, a comprehensive account of the traditions and trajectories of Italian legal feminism, thus opening up a dialogue with other feminist approaches to law and justice. The book will appeal to scholars in legal theory, critical and sociolegal studies, sociology, gender studies, and critical criminology.

Book Synopsis Il sesso debole. Debolezza femminile e violenza contro le donne by : Simona Cardinaletti
Download or read book Il sesso debole. Debolezza femminile e violenza contro le donne written by Simona Cardinaletti and published by Gruppo Albatros Il Filo. This book was released on 2023-04-30 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis La Liberazione della Donna by : Anna Maria Mozzoni
Download or read book La Liberazione della Donna written by Anna Maria Mozzoni and published by eBook Free. This book was released on 2014-10-25 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2018-03-02T00:00:00+01:00 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Feminism, Violence, and Representation in Modern Italy by : Giovanna Parmigiani
Download or read book Feminism, Violence, and Representation in Modern Italy written by Giovanna Parmigiani and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2019-09-12 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can the way a word is used give legitimacy to a political movement? Feminism, Violence, and Representation in Modern Italy traces the use of the word "femminicidio" (or "femicide") as a tool to mobilize Italian feminists, particularly the Union of Women in Italy (UDI). Based on nearly two years of fieldwork among feminist activists, Giovanna Parmigiani takes a broad look at the many ways in which violence inflects the lives of women in Italy. From unchallenged gendered grammar rules to the representation of women as victims, Parmigiani examines the devaluing of women’s contribution to their communities through the words and experiences of the women she interviews. She describes the first uses of the word "femminicidio" as a political term used by and within feminist circles and traces its spread to ultimate legitimization and national relevance. The word redefined women as a political subject by building an imagined community of potentially violated women. In doing so, it challenged Italians to consider the status of women in Italian society, and to make this status a matter of public debate. It also problematized the connection between women and tropes of women as objects of suffering and victimhood. Parmigiani considers this exchange within the context of Italian Catholic heritage, a precarious economy, and long-held notions of honor and shame. Parmigiani provides a careful and searing consideration of the ways in which representations of violence and the politics of this representation are shaping the future of women in Italy and beyond.
Book Synopsis Amore e violenza by : Maddalena Melandri
Download or read book Amore e violenza written by Maddalena Melandri and published by Bollati Boringhieri. This book was released on 2011-03-03T00:00:00+01:00 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
