Download or read book Molecules and Cells written by G. A. Chauvet and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical Systems in Biology: Hierarchical and Functional Integration, Volume I: Molecules and Cells covers the molecular and cellular aspects of classical biology. The book is comprised of 12 chapters, which are organized into three parts. Part I covers topics relating to the materials and methods in biological dynamics, such as macromolecular components and interactions, chemistry of cells, and biological dynamics. Part II deals with the molecular organization of living matter; this part covers the organization of biological systems and the relationship between evolution and physiology. Part III talks about issues concerning the cellular organization of living matter, such as regulation of cell function, cell growth, and cell division. The book will be of great use to biologists concerned with the theoretical systems in biology, specifically in cells and molecules.

Download or read book Portrait of the Immune System written by Ivan Lefkovits and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996 with total page 912 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using the published work of Nobel Laureate Niels Kaj Jerne, this book shows how he developd his ideas. The book is a compilation of his published work, but in fact it is much more than that. Whether the reader wants to read the book systematically, or only browse, it opens a fascinating world of hypotheses, theories, facts and vistas. His selection theory, his view of how immunological diversity is created, and his concept of lymphocytes interacting as a network, reveals Jerne's revolutionary spirit. The book ought to be a rich source of inspiration for everyone interested in science and how science is made.

Book Synopsis Chemical Reaction Networks by : Oleg N. Temkin
Download or read book Chemical Reaction Networks written by Oleg N. Temkin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-07-24 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last decade, increased attention to reaction dynamics, combined with the intensive application of computers in chemical studies, mathematical modeling of chemical processes, and mechanistic studies has brought graph theory to the forefront of research. It offers an advanced and powerful formalism for the description of chemical reactions and their intrinsic reaction mechanisms. Chemical Reaction Networks: A Graph-Theoretical Approach elegantly reviews and expands upon graph theory as applied to mechanistic theory, chemical kinetics, and catalysis. The authors explore various graph-theoretical approaches to canonical representation, numbering, and coding of elementary steps and chemical reaction mechanisms, the analysis of their topological structure, the complexity estimation, and classification of reaction mechanisms. They discuss topologically distinctive features of multiroute catalytic and noncatalytic and chain reactions involving metal complexes. With it's careful balance of clear language and mathematical rigor, the presentation of the authors' significant original work, and emphasis on practical applications and examples, Chemical Reaction Networks: A Graph Theoretical Approach is both an outstanding reference and valuable tool for chemical research.
Book Synopsis Mathematical Modelling in Biomedicine by : Y. Cherruault

This book was released on 1986-02-28 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Approach your problems from the right It isn't that they can't see the solution. It end and begin with the answers. Then is that they can't see the problem. one day, perhaps you will find the final question. G.K. Chesterton. The Scandal of Father Brown 'The point of a Pin'. 'The Hermit Clad in Crane Feathers' in R. van Gulik's The Chinese Maze Murders. Growing specialization and diversification have brought a host of monographs and textbooks on increasingly specialized topics. However, the "tree" of knowledge of mathematics and related fields does not grow only by putting forth new branches. It also happens, quite often in fact, that branches which were thought to be completely disparate are suddenly seen to be related. Further, the kind and level of sophistication of mathematics applied in various sciences has changed drastically in recent years: measure theory is used (non-trivially) in regional and theoretical economics; algebraic geometry interacts with physics; the Minkowsky lemma, cod ing theory and the structure of water meet one another in packing and covering theory; quantum fields, crystal defects and mathematical pro gramming profit from homotopy theory; Lie algebras are relevant to filtering; and prediction and electrical engineering can use Stein spaces.
Book Synopsis Mathematical Nature Of The Living World, The: The Power Of Integration by : Gilbert A Chauvet
Download or read book Mathematical Nature Of The Living World, The: The Power Of Integration written by Gilbert A Chauvet and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004-10-01 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of the book — a theory of functional biology that incorporates the fundamental principles underlying the functioning of living organisms — is clearly appropriate as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the discovery by Watson and Crick of the structure of the DNA molecule. 'The Mathematical Nature of the Living World: The Power of Integration' is here to remind us that the world of biology is anchored in the world of mathematics and physics, and that, to understand the living world, we need to incorporate the laws of the nonliving matter. In particular, an important emphasis of the book concerns the relationships between structure and function, a point so well illustrated by the work of Watson and Crick. A nice aspect of Chauvet's book is that he does place his work and his approach in a general framework and historical background of the work performed by pioneers in a variety of fields ranging from physics to biology. As such, the book should be of general interest to a wide range of readers, from college students interested in integrating biology with physics and mathematics, to general readers curious to know more about the differences between the living world and the nonliving matter, to professional scientists and teachers concerned with more specific questions regarding relationships between structure and function in biology.
Book Synopsis Molecular Motions in Liquids by : J. Lascombe
Download or read book Molecular Motions in Liquids written by J. Lascombe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 645 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When, in my capacity as President of the Societe de Chimie physique, I opened the 24th Annual Meeting of this Society, devoted this year to 'molecular motions in liquids', I was stirred by a particular emotion. This had two reasons, one general and the other rather personal. I would like to give an explanation in the Foreword to this volume of communications to the Meeting and their ensuing discussions. An essential characteristic of science is its international nature. It is like a symphony composed of contributions by all the countries playing together as an orchestra in unison. Just as a melody has different 'colours' when played by strings or woodwinds, so there exist similar 'colour' differences, subtle ones, between scientific contributions from different countries, rooted as they are in their own cultural history and liable to impoverish the ensemble if they should cease to participate. I have always had an impression of marked 'colour' differences prevailing among American, Russian, Japanese and European contributions, although within the latter group the timbre is very much the same. This is why I have dreamed of a European 'chamber orchestra' in addition to the great world orchestra.
