Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women have been cursed to live the life of secondary sex for centuries, and only women can change this reality. Not only in India but in the entire world, women are aching for a ray of hope to illuminate their world and remove the darkness spread in their life. All they need is courage, determination, and continuous effort. Santosh Srivastava’s book, ‘Mujhe Janam Do Maa’ is a profound, strong, and well-researched expression of this effort. It is a compilation of articles written by her over six years of research. These articles were published as episodes in one of the columns of Samarlok magazine called Angana. Her six years of hard work and thorough research are visible in this book. Every article in this book compels the reader to think and exposes the aspects of women’s issues which expose the irrationality of the patriarchal society. Each article in this book exposes the helplessness, pain, and deteriorating condition of women’s life layer by layer through examples and descriptions. - Ravindra Katyayan Hindi author, Mumbai

Book excerpt: Each of us has a lifetime in which to discover our way to belong within our particular experience of times and events. Instead of an operating manual, our families and cultures give us expectations for who we are and what is our place in the world. This is the story of my journey into the calling of motherhood that I did not understand and struggled to reject. Conscientious wrestling with the experiences of motherhood eventually taught me how entangled love and anger can be and how suffering is inseparable from both. Finally a deeper call to love confronted me.

You might see this as an autobiography, but it is much rather me having found the courage to be blunt and write about my first months of motherhood as it was, pain, tears (both pronunciations), doubt, too much. And then growth, beauty and strength. Not the angelic figure, much rather the bloody fighter. The minute I became a mum in the eyes of the world, I saw it plain as day. The indisputable myth of the perfect mother is still going strong, isn't it? So, to hell with it. My reason for writing each of the stories is candid and unvarnished honesty. Only that could dispel the image of THE mother that is still so damaging, so dangerous. And imaginary. My stories are written spoken word poetry. Not a contradiction at all. Every line completes the whole and stands on its own, as individual as you are, as connected as all of us. You give it meaning when it resounds in your mind, as it becomes voice again. Your voice.

But what about Hagar, Michal, and Priscilla, all women who had a direct influence in the story of God's people? The Bible is full of fascinating, powerful, and faithful women, as well as lessons that have unique meaning for women today." "In The Women's Study Bible, respected Bible scholars draw out these often overlooked stories and reveal the lives of women at the time and share lessons for women of today. Separate sidebars cover topics such as midwifery, women disciples, and female images of God. The Women's Study Bible doesn't shy away from the difficult issues, but helps readers to understand them better in both their original context and the modern world." "The New Living Translation of the Bible uses inclusive language for humanity and where it is clear that both male and female are meant to be included." --Book Jacket.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At STIAS, the ‘Health in Transition’ theme includes a programme to address the epidemic rise in the incidence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, obesity, coronary heart disease and stroke in Africa. The aim is to advance awareness, research capacity and knowledge translation of science related to the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD) as a means of preventing NCDs in future generations. Application of DOHaD science is a promising avenue for prevention, as this field is identifying how health and nutrition from conception through the first 1 000 days of life can dramatically impact a developing individual’s future life course, and specifically predicate whether or not they are programmed in infancy to develop NCDs in later life. Prevention of NCDs is an essential strategy as, if unchecked, the burden of caring for a growing and ageing population with these diseases threatens to consume entire health budgets, as well as negatively impact the quality of life of millions. Africa in particular needs specific, focussed endeavors to realize the maximal preventive potential of DOHaD science, and a means of generating governmental and public awareness about the links between health in infancy and disease in adult life. This volume summarizes the expertise and experience of a leading group of international scientists led by Abdallah Daar brought together at STIAS as part of the ‘Health in Transition’ programme.
