Book Synopsis Legal Research Demystified by : Eric P. Voigt
Download or read book Legal Research Demystified written by Eric P. Voigt and published by Carolina Academic Press LLC. This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Legal Research Demystified offers a real-world approach to legal research. The textbook guides law students through eight steps to research common law issues and ten steps to research statutory issues. These research steps are demonstrated through many hypotheticals and visual aids. Students have praised the textbook for its screen captures, checklists, and descriptive charts, such as charts demonstrating Boolean searching and comparing features of citators. Professors have appreciated that the book educates students on how to do legal research instead of discussing finding tools and resources in a vacuum. The second edition includes multiple updates. The chapters on research plans and secondary sources have been moved to their own section because these initial research steps apply to all legal issues. The chapters on secondary sources, citators, and keyword searching have been revised and expanded. New assessment questions on research tools and concepts have been added to almost every chapter. The revised introductions and additional cross references make it easy to assign the chapters out of order. With the purchase of a new book, students gain free access to the assessment and teaching platform of Core Knowledge for Lawyers. That online platform contains interactive questions and exercises that map to Legal Research Demystified. Almost 200 auto-grading questions from the end of each chapter. Hundreds of interactive questions and explanations that walk students through the steps for researching common law and statutory issues on Westlaw and Lexis+. Instant feedback after each question--similar to Core Grammar and MBIE. Robust instructor dashboard--professors can view individual and class performance.

Book Synopsis Demystifying Legal Reasoning by : Larry Alexander
Download or read book Demystifying Legal Reasoning written by Larry Alexander and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2008-06-16 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Demystifying Legal Reasoning defends the proposition that there are no special forms of reasoning peculiar to law. Legal decision makers engage in the same modes of reasoning that all actors use in deciding what to do: open-ended moral reasoning, empirical reasoning, and deduction from authoritative rules. This book addresses common law reasoning when prior judicial decisions determine the law, and interpretation of texts. In both areas, the popular view that legal decision makers practise special forms of reasoning is false.

Book excerpt: Michigan Legal Research, Third Edition, is a concise, yet thorough, guide to conducting legal research in Michigan. Importantly, it also includes references to federal legal resources. In addition to updating all sources discussed, this edition, more so than previous editions, focuses on free legal resources, including current commercial and government sources. For the free online sources, this edition includes directions on how to navigate the website to make it easy for the reader to find the relevant information. Where applicable, references to new and established subscription-based resources are juxtaposed against those resources that are available for free. The goal is to help the reader make an informed decision regarding when to use a fee-based service as opposed to a free legal resource. This edition continues to draw upon the authors' years of experience teaching legal writing and research by providing the tools for conducting efficient and effective legal research, as well as discussing the interplay between legal research and legal analysis. This book is part of the Legal Research Series, edited by Suzanne E. Rowe, Director of Legal Research and Writing, University of Oregon School of Law.

Book Synopsis The Perfect Practice Exam by : Christina Chong
Download or read book The Perfect Practice Exam written by Christina Chong and published by . This book was released on 2023-07-31 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With 54 essay questions and accompanying sample answers, The PPE: The Skill of Analysis is the ideal study tool for law students because it provides the most utility for the money spent. First-year students nationwide benefit from this book because they do not need to purchase six different supplements to practice their skills because The PPE includes nine questions for each of the core subjects of Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Contracts, Criminal Law, Real Property, and Torts. The PPE also ensures students can effectively use the book throughout the semester. Most supplements randomly combine topics for each subject and students must wait until reading week to practice their exam-taking skills because the questions include topics from the beginning and the end of the course. The PPE strategically pairs commonly tested topics and presents the topics in the order they often appear on the syllabus. Finally, the book avoids overwhelming students by focusing on a specific learning objective. Instead, the goal is to improve analysis, one of the most important skills in the legal profession, with concrete steps on how to execute the book's advice in real-life situations. The PPE includes a legal-analysis template, active-learning worksheets that walk students through the three-step process of analysis, and sample answers that use IRAC, headers, and paragraphs to mirror what the students should strive to achieve on their exams.

Book Synopsis Men in Charge? by : Ziba Mir-Hosseini
Download or read book Men in Charge? written by Ziba Mir-Hosseini and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2014-12-10 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both Muslims and non-Muslims see women in most Muslim countries as suffering from social, economic, and political discrimination, treated by law and society as second-class citizens subject to male authority. This discrimination is attributed to Islam and Islamic law, and since the late 19th century there has been a mass of literature tackling this issue. Recently, exciting new feminist research has been challenging gender discrimination and male authority from within Islamic legal tradition: this book presents some important results from that research. The contributors all engage critically with two central juristic concepts; rooted in the Qur’an, they lie at the basis of this discrimination. One refers to a husband’s authority over his wife, his financial responsibility toward her, and his superior status and rights. The other is male family members’ right and duty of guardianship over female members (e.g., fathers over daughters when entering into marriage contracts) and the privileging of fathers over mothers in guardianship rights over their children. The contributors, brought together by the Musawah global movement for equality and justice in the Muslim family, include Omaima Abou-Bakr, Asma Lamrabet, Ayesha Chaudhry, Sa‘diyya Shaikh, Lynn Welchman, Marwa Sharefeldin, Lena Larsen and Amina Wadud.
