Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis A History of Economic Thought in France by : Gilbert Faccarello
Download or read book A History of Economic Thought in France written by Gilbert Faccarello and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-10-02 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditionally, there has been a long and sustained interest in studying the history of economic ideas in France. Interest appeared to wane after World War II, but in recent decades, there has been a marked renaissance of interest and research in the contributions of French-speaking authors. Drawing on the flow of recent research, this book presents a new assessment of the history of political economy in France incorporating both novel presentations of some traditional subjects and topics that are not usually studied. This second volume analyses the evolution of political economy during the long nineteenth century, combining an assessment of both liberals and their opponents. Its first part covers the most outstanding contributions to political economy in the age of industry, from the founding fathers (L.-C.-C. Destutt de Tracy and J. –B. Say) until the pre-World War I period, including that of A.-A. Cournot, J. Dupuit, the French liberal economists, and L. Walras. The volume then outlines the critiques of liberal political economy, focusing on the analyses of J.-C.L.S. de Sismondi, C.-H. de Saint-Simon and his followers, and the successive generations of socialist and associationist authors, not forgetting the sociological critique. A substantial postlude concludes the volume with a survey of recent developments of French economic thought up to the present day. A History of Economic Thought in France will be invaluable reading for advanced students and researchers of the history of economic thought, political economy, intellectual history and French history.

This book was released on 2014-05-28 with total page 625 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of Eugène-Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc (1814-1879) within modern architecture cannot be overstated. Key theoretician of modernism, renowned restoration architect, medieval archaeologist and champion of Gothic revivalism, he also published some of the most influential texts in the history of modern architecture. Martin Bressani expertly traces Viollet-le-Duc’s complex intellectual development, showing how restoration, in all its layered meaning, shaped his outlook. Through his life journey, we follow the route by which the technological subject was born out of nineteenth-century historicism.
Book Synopsis Les Deux Révolutions industrielles du XXe siècle by : François Caron
Download or read book Les Deux Révolutions industrielles du XXe siècle written by François Caron and published by Albin Michel. This book was released on 2014-04-01 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Rich in primary sources, this will be an essential read for scholars and researchers of French history, European history, economic history, and history in general.
Book Synopsis Naviguer, commercer, gouverner by : Claire Judde de Larivière
Download or read book Naviguer, commercer, gouverner written by Claire Judde de Larivière and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2008-11-30 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The convoys of public galleys, the typical form of Venetian medieval sea-faring, had disappeared gradually by the time of the battle of Lepanto. This disappearance was not the sign of a general economic crisis, but was nevertheless the corollary of important political, economic and social changes which marked the history of sixteenth-century Venice. Through the study of economic actors, their identity, their practices and their functions, this book analyses public and private commercial navigation in relation to the evolution of forms and functions of the State, within a general context of the redefinition of the relationship between public good and private interests.

Book Synopsis The Medieval Broadcloth by : Kathrine Vestergard Pedersen
Download or read book The Medieval Broadcloth written by Kathrine Vestergard Pedersen and published by Oxbow Books. This book was released on 2009-11-19 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The eight papers presented here provide a useful introduction to medieval broadcloth, and an up-to-date synthesis of current research. The word broadcloth is nowadays used as an overall term for the woven textiles mass-produced and exported all over Europe. It was first produced in Flanders as a luxurious cloth from the 11th century and throughout the medieval period. Broadcloth is the English term, Laken in Flemish, Tuch in German, Drap in French, Klæde in the Scandinavian languages and Verka in Finish. As the concept of broadcloth has deriving from the written sources it cannot directly be identified in the archaeological textiles and therefore the topic of medieval broadcloth is very suitable as an interdisciplinary theme. The first chapter (John Munro) presents an introduction to the subject and takes the reader through the manufacturing and economic importance of the medieval broadcloth as a luxury item. Chapter two (Carsten Jahnke) describes trade in the Baltic Sea area, detailing production standards, shipping and prices. Chapters three, four and five (Heini Kirjavainen, Riina Rammo and Jerzy Maik) deal with archaeological textiles excavated in the Baltic, Finland and Poland. Chapters six and seven (Camilla Luise Dahl and Kathrine Vestergård Pedersen) concern the problems of combining the terminology from the written sources with archaeological textiles. The last chapter reports on an ongoing reconstruction project; at the open air museum in Eindhoven, Holland, Anton Reurink has tried to recreate a medieval broadcloth based on written and historical sources. During the last few years he has reconstructed the tool for preparing and spinning wool, and a group of spinners has produced a yarn of the right quality. He subsequently wove approximately 20 metres of cloth and conducted the first experiment with foot-fulling.
