Book Synopsis Dictatorship, Democracy, and Transitional Justice in Global Legal History by : Ignacio Czeguhn

This book was released on 2023-12-19 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The anthology presents the lectures given on the symposium »From Dictatorship to democracy« at the House of the Wannsee Conference on 13–14 September 2021. The aim of the organizers was to show what problems existed during the transition from dictatorship to democracy in several countries around the world. They all enacted laws or other measures to ensure that fundamental rights and the rule of law would resist anti-democratic ideologies, anti-Semitism, racism, and war crimes in the future. However, the legal system and law in these countries themselves often had their origins in dictatorship. Thus, there were and are obvious and hidden anti-democratic continuities that influence law and the legal system up to the present. Scientifics and jurists from Italy, Japan, Poland, Spain, South Africa, and Germany examine these continuities in their contributions.
Book Synopsis Neoliberalism and Neopanamericanism by : G. Prevost
Download or read book Neoliberalism and Neopanamericanism written by G. Prevost and published by Springer. This book was released on 2002-09-06 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this edited volume fourteen scholars, mostly from Latin America, analyze the current state of relations between North America and Latin America in a number of sectors - economic, security, politics, and the environment. Particular attention is paid to processes of economic integration that dominated political discussions during the decade of the 1990s - NAFTA, MERCOSUR, the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas (FTAA). Because most of the scholars are from Latin America, the book has a perspective that is often lacking in books on similar scholars written almost exclusively by scholars from the U.S.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The greater openness of developing countries' economies and the free trade agreements negotiated in recent years have spurred arguments in favor of greater integration in the world; they have also given rise to strong opposition. In some cases the opposition stems from the reaction of specific, domestically oriented sectoral interests, and in others from the activism of groups adhering to what has been termed "globophobia". Regrettably, the implementation of the Hemispheric Cooperation Program (HCP) has been constrained by the paralysis of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) negotiations, and thus has been extremely slow. Although the future of the HCP process is unclear, the experience to date in the Hemisphere provides a sufficient basis to analyze its origin and peculiarities, as well as its chief difficulties and determinants. The bilateral negotiations between the United States and Central America, the Dominican Republic and the Andean countries also provide important input for the analysis in this study, and the lessons learned can be very helpful to ensuring the successful implementation of the HCP.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume illustrates the sweeping changes in Cuban foreign policy under Raúl Castro. Leading scholars from around the world show how the significant shift in foreign policy direction that started in 1990 after the implosion of the Soviet Union has continued, in many ways taking totally unexpected paths—as is shown by the move toward the normalization of relations with Washington. Providing a systematic overview of Cuba’s relations with the United States, Latin America, Russia, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, this book will be invaluable for courses on contemporary Cuba.
