Book Synopsis Description and Measurement of Bilingualism by : Louis G. Kelly
Download or read book Description and Measurement of Bilingualism written by Louis G. Kelly and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1969-12-15 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In June 1967 the Canadian National Commission for Unesco and the Université de Moncton jointly sponsored an international seminar on bilingualism. Although 1967 was Canada's centennial year, the seminar was concerned only incidentally with bilingualism in Canada. Instead, bilingualism was considered as the essential element in communication between language irrespective of national boundaries. Participants included linguists, psychologists, and sociologists. The report shows that the interdisciplinary discussions carried on at Moncton were fruitful; that significant questions about bilingualism were raised and an improvement in communication between specialists from different traditions, languages, and cultures were effected. This volumes makes a valuable contribution toward establishing a general theory of bilingualism.

Book Synopsis Trubetzkoy's Orphan by : Rajendra Singh
Download or read book Trubetzkoy's Orphan written by Rajendra Singh and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In putting 'morphonology' up for adoption as a chapitre particulier in 1929, Trubetzkoy started a debate regarding the boundary between phonology and morphology that has not ended yet. Essentially a record of a roundtable devoted to that boundary (Montréal, October 1994), Trubetzkoy's Orphan is a full and fascinating picture of some very important contemporary attempts to define it. In addition to papers that focus on it, the volume also contains important papers on the closely related topics of 'morphoprosody' and the 'lexicon', views from 'the floor' and 'the outside', and edited transcripts of the discussions that took place at the Montréal Roundtable. Intended both for practicising and future phonologists and morpho-logists, Trubetzkoy's Orphan is a valuable record of a very important debate regarding one of the most central questions in phonology and morphology.

Book Synopsis Pari de la Franchise by : Stéphane Dion
Download or read book Pari de la Franchise written by Stéphane Dion and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1999-10-29 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Language is the Key by : Monika Jezak
Download or read book Language is the Key written by Monika Jezak and published by University of Ottawa Press. This book was released on 2017-06-06 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The CLB/NCLC success was dependent on many factors—outstanding work by leading Canadian scholars; steady commitment of the government and non-governmental stakeholders at the federal, provincial, and local level; and, last but not least, unconditional commitment and caring on the part of an invested community of practice. Language is the key covers a range of topics: historical and political context that lead to the development of the Canadian standards, their current positioning in global educational markets, as well as their research and teaching cultures. This edited volume provides a comprehensive overview of recent and ongoing projects and of CLB- and NCLC-related materials, tools and resources for teaching and assessment. Finally, it offers a bold outlook, proposing various scenarios to branch out beyond these benchmarks into the domains of higher education, essential skills, literacy, workplace training, as well as international and indigenous languages. The 20th anniversary of the CLB/NCLC provides an opportunity to reflect on the scope and importance of this exceptional Canadian intellectual product.
