Read on your PC, Mac, smartphone, tablet or Kindle device! One of many riveting reads in the Football Biography Books series by Clayton Geoffreys. In Lamar Jackson: The Inspiring Story of One of Football's Star Quarterbacks, you'll learn the inspirational story of one of football's top quarterbacks, Lamar Jackson. Since taking over the starting spot from Joe Flacco, Jackson has emerged as one of the best offensive quarterbacks in the league, setting the record for the most rushing years in a season by a quarterback. While Lamar Jackson has only played a little more than two years in the league at the time of this writing, he has already accomplished a lot. That said, there is still much of his story to be told. This book shares more about Lamar's journey to playing professional football and his ascent in his first few seasons in the National Football League. Get this football book on Lamar Jackson today if you're looking for an inspiring football biography book to read, or a gift for a football fan! It's perfect for reading at home or on the go. Here is a preview of what is inside this Lamar Jackson book: Chapter 1: Early Childhood, Tragedy and Mama Knows Best Chapter 2: High School Career and Committing to College Chapter 3: College Career - Historic Season and Preparing for the Draft Chapter 4: NFL Career - Rookie Season and MVP Season Chapter 5: Personal Life Chapter 6: Legacy and Future An excerpt from this biography book on Lamar Jackson's story: When we gather around and discuss the most exciting players in the NFL today, typical names that come to mind include Patrick Mahomes, Kyler Murray, Derrick Henry, Tom Brady, and Christian McCaffrey. However, over the last year, a new name has emerged and potentially topped that list: Lamar Jackson. The Baltimore Ravens star quarterback has taken the NFL by storm with his ability to make remarkable and mind-blowing plays with both his arm and his legs and has already broken dozens of NFL records with more certainly to follow. There have been successful running quarterbacks in the NFL before. Roger Staubach is probably one of the first names that come to mind for many old school fans for his scrambling ability. But in terms of ethnicity, it was Randall Cunningham who really paved the way for black quarterbacks to excel in the league with how he was able to generate plays with his arm and feet. Since then, guys like Steve McNair, Michael Vick, Cam Newton, Warren Moon, Donovan McNabb, and Russell Wilson have come along, making the black quarterback a weapon and asset in the league. The unfortunate and, at times, racist, criticism aimed at a lot of black quarterbacks in past eras has been that "their accuracy does not match their running ability." Doug Williams and Warren Moon were accurate passers but were not as big a running threat as Cunningham. Vick's speed transcended the game to a new level, but his accuracy was his biggest detriment. Old stereotypes and racial barriers have been broken and transcended as mindsets evolve. Today, guys like Wilson and Murray are becoming MVP-like quarterbacks with how they can run and throw accurately. And now along comes Lamar Jackson, who is performing at such a remarkable level and at such a young age that he may very well someday eclipse them all. Did you enjoy this excerpt? Book excerpt: Brian Billick, Super Bowl-winning coach and current analyst for the NFL network, takes on the 2018 draft class of quarterbacks and follows them for two years, identifying the tangibles and intangibles of success, in search of the key to better predicting who will make it as a top-ranked NFL franchise QB. There are elite athletes in every sport -- people who possess tangible and intangible qualities that allow them to overcome daunting odds, spot opportunity in the midst of adversity, and turn defeat into victory. No position embodies this dynamic more than football quarterbacks, and nothing is a greater test of performance than the NFL. The tangibles -- metrics, stats, ratings, bowl games, championships -- are critical to evaluation. But they're not enough. Every year, highly rated college quarterbacks are analyzed, critiqued, hyped up and/or doubted, and those who manage to survive the scrutiny are drafted early. Some of those early picks make it to the top, some end up journeymen, and some just wash out. Why? What separates the elites from the pack? In THE Q FACTOR, former NFL coach Brian Billick takes the highly promising 2018 NFL quarterback Draft class -- the most touted class since 2004 (Manning, Roethlisberger, Rivers) and 1983 (Elway, Kelly, Marino) -- and measures the top five quarterback picks to gauge how, why, and if they succeed. They are all first rounders, all with sterling college credentials, all talented athletes, all taken by teams betting their futures. One or maybe two could go on to greatness. But which ones, and why? Could the prediction process be better? Are the "experts" looking at the wrong factors? How do we find the best of the best? That's what THE Q FACTOR explores...and finally explains.

Book excerpt: "After two electrifying seasons, the 2019 National Football League (NFL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) Lamar Jackson has become a household name, inspiring a generation of future quarterbacks (QBs) who can manage the position with their arms, legs, and intellect. Jackson's ability to glide and slice through defenders by rushing the ball has garnered comparison to former Pro-Bowl QB Michael Vick. His cannon-like arm strength has likened him to 2018 NFL MVP and Super Bowl champion QB Patrick Mahomes of Kansas City. Meanwhile, Jackson's remarkable 19-3 record as a starter through his first two regular seasons has caused some to mention him in the same breath as a young Tom Brady. However, the more Jackson plays, the more one thing becomes abundantly clear-he is in a class all his own. Jackson's journey to NFL stardom began in South Florida where, at just eight years old, he tragically lost both his father and grandmother on the same day. His strong and resilient mother, Felicia Jones, raised Jackson on her own. Jones introduced Jackson to football, and she even put on the pads in the backyard of their childhood home to train Lamar and his brother Jamar. It was during these formative years that Jackson learned his mother's core values and built the character along with the skills he needed to be successful. After transferring to the Boynton Beach Community High School for his junior year, Jackson turned in a pair of high school seasons that caught the attention of several Division I National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) programs. However, scouts questioned Jackson's ability to play QB at the next level. He no doubt had elite speed and agility skills, and programs like those at the Universities of Florida and Nebraska could envision Jackson as a top-tier running back (RB) or wide receiver (WR). Jackson had his convictions though-he was a quarterback"--

Front Stoops in the Fifties recounts the stories of some of Baltimore’s most famous personalities as they grew up during the “decade of conformity”—just before they entered the turbulent 1960s. Focusing on the period before JFK’s assassination, Olesker looks to individuals who would go on to influence the brewing cultural revolution. Such familiar names as Jerry Leiber, Nancy Pelosi, Thurgood Marshall, and Barry Levinson figure prominently in Michael Olesker’s fascinating account, which draws on personal interviews and journalistic research. Olesker tells the story of Nancy D’Alesandro Pelosi, daughter of the mayor, who grew up in a political home and eventually became the first woman Speaker of the House. Thurgood Marshall, schooled in a racially segregated classroom, went on to argue Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka before the U.S. Supreme Court and rewrite race-relations law. These and many other stories come to life in Front Stoops in the Fifties. “[A] fascinating read . . . The shocking part is just how relevant these stories remain today.” —Baltimore Post-Examiner “[A] crisp, insightful dispatch from a skilled writer who knows his city and its history.” —David Simon, executive producer of HBO’s The Wire

Book excerpt: "Lamar Jackson is one of the most dynamic players in football and is one of just two players, alongside Tom Brady, to have won the NFL's Most Valuable Player Award unanimously. Early on in his career, scouts considered Jackson a great athlete; but many also saw him as a one-dimensional product, a quarterback who focused more on rushing the ball than passing. It didn't take long for Jackson to silence the doubters, and he continues to do so today. Lamar Demeatrice Jackson Jr. was born on January 7, 1997, in Pompano Beach, Florida, and he spent his entire childhood in the Sunshine State. Jackson was raised primarily by his mother, Felicia Jones, who now acts as his manager, after his father tragically passed away when Jackson was eight years old. Jackson, along with his brother and two sisters, attended Boynton Beach High School in Florida, where he became a star. After putting up 1,264 passing yards and 960 rushing yards as a starter during his junior season, Jackson became a highly-touted prospect. He was dubbed as a 4-star recruit and one of the top 10 dual-threat quarterbacks of his class. After receiving scholarship offers from Nebraska, Mississippi State, and Florida, Jackson surprised some by heading to the University of Louisville. Jackson became an instant starter for the Louisville Cardinals and dazzled with both his arm and legs. He led the team to an 8-5 record, including a Music City Bowl win over Texas A&M, finishing his freshman season with 1,840 passing yards and 960 rushing yards"--
