Book Synopsis Statistical Approach to Wall Turbulence by : Sedat Tardu
Download or read book Statistical Approach to Wall Turbulence written by Sedat Tardu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-02-07 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wall turbulence is encountered in many technological applications as well as in the atmosphere, and a detailed understanding leading to its management would have considerable beneficial consequences in many areas. A lot of inspired work by experimenters, theoreticians, engineers and mathematicians has been accomplished over recent decades on this important topic and Statistical Approach to Wall Turbulence provides an updated and integrated view on the progress made in this area. Wall turbulence is a complex phenomenon that has several industrial applications, such as in aerodynamics, turbomachinery, geophysical flows, internal engines, etc. Several books exist on fluid turbulence, but Statistical Approach to Wall Turbulence is original in the sense that it focuses solely on the turbulent flows bounded by solid boundaries. The book covers the different physical aspects of wall turbulence, beginning with classical phenomenological aspects before advancing to recent research in the effects of the Reynolds numbers, near wall coherent structures, and wall turbulent transport process. This book would be of interest to postgraduate and undergraduate students in mechanical, chemical, and aerospace engineering, as well as researchers in aerodynamics, combustion, and all applications of wall turbulence.

Download or read book Particle-Laden Flow written by Bernard Geurts and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-10-20 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a selection of the papers that were presented at the EUROMECH colloquium on particle-laden flow held at the University of Twente in 2006. The multiscale nature of this challenging field motivated the calling of the colloquium and reflects the central importance that the dispersion of particles in a flow has in various geophysical and environmental problems. The spreading of aerosols and soot in the air, the growth and dispersion of plankton blooms in seas and oceans, or the transport of sediment in rivers, estuaries and coastal regions are striking examples.

This book was released on 2011 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the dispersion and the deposition of inertial particles convected by turbulent flows is a domain of research of considerable industrial interest. Inertial particle transport and dispersion are encountered in a wide range of flow configurations, whether they are of industrial or environmental character. Conventional models for turbulent dispersed flows do not appear capable of meeting the growing needs of chemical, mechanical and petroleum industries in this regard and physical environment testing is prohibitive. Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) and Large Eddy Simulation (LES) ha.

Book Synopsis Measurements of Turbulence at High Reynolds Numbers by : Christian Küchler
Download or read book Measurements of Turbulence at High Reynolds Numbers written by Christian Küchler and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effective description and fundamental understanding of turbulent flows remains elusive to modern physics despite centuries of research and its great importance in numerous fields. The theoretical difficulties of the topic (nonlinear, nonlocal, or unclosed equations) are accompanied by the multiscale characteristics, large number of degrees of freedom, and strong sensitivity to initial conditions that make numerical and laboratory experiments equally challenging. One potential way to unravel the dynamics underlying turbulent motions is the separation of inertial forces from viscous force...
Download or read book Turbulence written by Uriel Frisch and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1995-11-30 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook presents a modern account of turbulence, one of the greatest challenges in physics. The state-of-the-art is put into historical perspective five centuries after the first studies of Leonardo and half a century after the first attempt by A. N. Kolmogorov to predict the properties of flow at very high Reynolds numbers. Such 'fully developed turbulence' is ubiquitous in both cosmical and natural environments, in engineering applications and in everyday life. The intended readership for the book ranges from first-year graduate students in mathematics, physics, astrophysics, geosciences and engineering, to professional scientists and engineers. Elementary presentations of dynamical systems ideas, of probabilistic methods (including the theory of large deviations) and of fractal geometry make this a self-contained textbook.
Book Synopsis The dynamics of finite-size settling particles by : Doychev, Todor
Download or read book The dynamics of finite-size settling particles written by Doychev, Todor and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2015-01-27 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contributes to the fundamental understanding of the physical mechanisms that take place in pseudo turbulent particulate flows. In the present work we have considered the sedimentation of large numbers of spherical rigid particles in an initially quiescent flow field. We have performed direct numerical simulations employing an immersed boundary method for the representation of the fluid-solid interface. The results evidence that depending on the particle settling regime (i.e. Galileo number and particle-to-fluid density ratio) the particles may exhibit strong inhomogeneous spatial distribution. It is found that the particles are preferentially located in regions with downward fluid motion. The particles inside clusters experience larger settling velocities than the average. The flow in all flow cases is observed to exhibit characteristic features of pseudo-turbulence. The particle-induced flow field is further found to be highly anisotropic with dominant vertical components. The results indicate that, in the present flow configurations, the collective and mobility effects play significant role for the particle and fluid motion.
Book Synopsis Studies in Turbulence by : Thomas B. Gatski
Download or read book Studies in Turbulence written by Thomas B. Gatski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 609 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains contributions by former students, colleagues and friends of Professor John L. Lumley, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, in recognition of his enormous impact on the advancement of turbulence research. A variety of experimental, computational and theoretical topics, including turbulence modeling, direct numerical simulations, compressible turbulence, turbulent shear flows, coherent structures and the Proper Orthogonal Decomposition are contained herein. The diversity and scope of these contributions are further acknowledgment of John Lumley's wide ranging influence in the field of turbulence. The large number of contributions by the authors, many of whom were participants in The Lumley Symposium: Recent Developments in Turbulence (held at ICASE, NASA Langley Research Center on November 12 & 13, 1990), has presented us with the unique opportu nity to select a few numerical and theoretical papers for inclusion in the journal Theoretical and Computational Fluid Dynamics for which Professor Lumley serves as Editor. Extended Abstracts of these pa pers are included in this volume and are appropriately marked. The special issue of TCFD will appear this year and will serve as an additional tribute to John Lumley. As is usually the case, the efforts of others have significantly eased our tasks. We would like to express our deep appreciation to Drs. R.
