Notre travail s'est penché sur le rôle que pouvait jouer l'empathie dans l'évaluation de la douleur. Nous posons l'hypothèse suivante : "plus le soignant est empathique, mieux il arrivera à évaluer la douleur de son patient. Si l'empathie joue ce rôle que nous attendons dans la prise en charge de la douleur, il nous semble important d'étudier sa variation dans le temps. Notre étude se déroule à l'Hotel Dieu sur 6 mois. Vingt infirmiers participeront à l'étude dans sa globalité. A T0, nous évaluons l'empathie des infirmiers grâce au questionnaire de Jefferson. Ensuite, nous étudions la capacité d'évaluation de la douleur des infirmiers en comparant les scores d'échelle numérique de douleur infirmier(ère) - patient lors d'un soin douloureux. Le but est de montrer que plus la perception de la douleur de l'infirmier(ère) est proche de celle de son patient, plus le score d'empathie de l'infirmier(ère) est élevé. Les résultats montrent une différence de perception de douleur infirmier(ère)-patient dans 90 % des cas, mais nous n'avons pas pu lier cette différence au score d'empathie de l'infirmier(ère). Pour trouver un lien entre empathie et évaluation de la douleur, il faudrait une étude à plus grande échelle, avec plusieurs évaluations de la douleur par infirmier(ère) chez des patient qu'il (elle) a déjà évalué au moins une fois.La comparaison des scores de Jefferson à T0 et à T6mois nous permet de suivre l'évolution de l'empathie dans le temps.Les résultats montrent qu'elle décroît chez 75 % des infirmiers au bout de 6 mois de pratique professionnelle. Ces résultats sont en accord avec ceux de la littérature. Cette thèse aborde l'empathie dans le domaine de la douleur et permet de souligner l'importance de ce concept dans la relation de soin. Un travail reste à faire pour l'enseigner et la maintenir constante chez les professionnels de la santé.
