Download or read book The Brundtland Challenge and the Cost of Inaction written by Royal Society of Canada and published by IRPP. This book was released on 1988 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the back cover: Environment is now at the top of the public agenda. This publication...reports on two workshops held in early 1988 to discuss aspects of environmental issues...The workshop members were drawn from number of professions and came with wide experience. They were much concerned about environmental issues and determined to recommend action on them. Accordingly, they refused to be constrained by workshop titles or fixed agendas, and ranged widely over a number of important questions. These included the basic nature of the environmental issue; the apparent failure, over the past couple of decades, of our decision making processes and institutions in attacking the causes - "why have we not done better?" - and the reasons for that; and what now must be done. They ended with a series of recommendations which set out the results of their best thinking at that time.

This book was released on 2019-10-09 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Infrastructure Politique Nationale Et Investissement Étranger Direct by : Steven Globerman
Download or read book Infrastructure Politique Nationale Et Investissement Étranger Direct written by Steven Globerman and published by Industrie Canada. This book was released on 2002 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is widely argued that a country's economic performance over time is determined to a great extent by its political, institutional, and legal environment. We refer to these public institutions and policies as the national political infrastructure (NPI) of a country. This report focusses on the linkage between measures of NPI and foreign direct investment (FDI) flows. Specifically, it tests the hypothesis that FDI will be attracted to regions characterized by more favourable NPIs. It also argues that countries with more favourable NPIs will create more domestic multinational enterprises, and they will therefore see more capital outflows, so that the net effect on capital flows may be uncertain. The study employs 2 sets of FDI data, both covering the period 1995-1997. The 1st set measures total FDI inflows and outflows to and from a sample of 144 developed and developing countries. The 2nd set uses United States Bureau of Economic Analysis data to measure the inflows of U.S. FDI to these same countries.

Book Synopsis Fourier Analysis and Partial Differential Equations by : Jose Garcia-Cuerva
Download or read book Fourier Analysis and Partial Differential Equations written by Jose Garcia-Cuerva and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fourier Analysis and Partial Differential Equations presents the proceedings of the conference held at Miraflores de la Sierra in June 1992. These conferences are held periodically to assess new developments and results in the field. The proceedings are divided into two parts. Four mini-courses present a rich and actual piece of mathematics assuming minimal background from the audience and reaching the frontiers of present-day research. Twenty lectures cover a wide range of data in the fields of Fourier analysis and PDE. This book, representing the fourth conference in the series, is dedicated to the late mathematician Antoni Zygmund, who founded the Chicago School of Fourier Analysis, which had a notable influence in the development of the field and significantly contributed to the flourishing of Fourier analysis in Spain.
Book Synopsis Moralizing the Market by : Yves-Marie Péréon
Download or read book Moralizing the Market written by Yves-Marie Péréon and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2018-03 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In the late 1960s, France attempted a complete overhaul of its financial regulations without being forced to do so by a stock market crash or the collapse of its banking system. Out of pure political expediency, Gaullist reformers seized the opportunity offered by a minor insider trading case to establish the "Commission des Opérations de Bourse (COB), an independent commission in charge of regulating the securities market. Even more surprisingly, these staunch defenders of national sovereignty drew their inspiration from an American model, the Securities and Exchange Commission. Rather than a comparative study of securities regulation in France and the United States, the book is an investigation of the dynamics of policy transfer in the field of securities regulation. Along the way, it reveals a great deal about French and American perceptions of morality and capitalism, but also, more generally, about the exercise of political power in modern democracies, the interaction between business and government, and the mechanisms of institutional innovation"--
