In den Medien wird die Angst Europas vor der Islamisierung Europas und dem Terror, der vom Islam und den Muslimen ausgeht, täglich propagiert und genährt. Eine Folge dieser Entwicklungen ist die Entstehung von Organisationen wie der PEGIDA, welche seit Oktober 2014 wie ein unheilbringendes Gespenst mit wöchentlichen Demonstrationen durch Dresdens Straßen spukt. Seit dem 19. Dezember 2014 agieren die Patriotischen Europäer, die sich gegen die Islamisierung des Abendlandes organisieren, sogar als eingetragener Verein und finden Nachahmer und Anhänger in etlichen weiteren Städten Deutschlands (z.B. München - Mügida, Köln - Kögida, Leipzig - Legida, Suhl - Sügida). Am 31. Januar 2015 veröffentlicht die Zeit einen Artikel, in dem die 20jährige Journalistin Laura Meschede über die „gefährlichen Ängste der Alten“ sinniert. Darin konstatiert sie: „Die Pegida-Demonstranten haben Angst vor dem Islam, Sarrazin hat Angst vor kriminellen Ausländern und eine ganze Generation von Stammtisch-Deutschen hat Angst um ihre Kultur“. Doch was genau verbirgt sich hinter dieser Kultur, die etliche Deutsche als schützenswert und -nötig vor Einflüssen respektive „Angriffen“ von außen betrachten, sodass sie sich veranlasst fühlen an Demonstrationen gegen die Islamisierung des Abendlandes teilzunehmen?
