Their existence has bound communities together as one unity in any given society. In addition, every community has its proverbs and sages which portray the mode of life a society lives. Reading the proverbs and sages of a society you can truly judge the kind of life that society encouraged for its citizens. If you read the Myths, Legends, Proverbs and the sages of a community you fully understand the community with its customs, culture and traditions, economic and political aspirations, social and spiritual beliefs in the centuries past.If you read and discover that a community had rich traditions and customs, with social and spiritual beliefs in God, you will also discover that their economic and political aspirations are based in honest and truthful foundations. Book excerpt: Meru People were created by God somewhere (in the Holy Bible in the Garden of Eden) and they lived there until the day they crossed the Red Sea into Egypt where they lived until the day they were forced out of Egypt by some enemy. The fact is that, Ameru people were the original inhabitants of Egypt and the builders of the Pyramids (Mbiira in Kimeru language). Due to their expertise, they were chased out of Egypt by the Libyan mercenaries and Mohammedans when they invaded Egypt to spread their Muslim religion around AD 750.When Ameru left Egypt, they left in a hurry and out of pressure and fear, because they never wanted to be traced by the enemy. That is why in Egypt, no one knows for sure who were the original inhabitants of Egypt even today. On their way, they encountered many, many hardships and many generations died on the way (in the wilderness) with all the knowledge they had acquired in Egypt. The had to start from the scratch to gain some knowledge once again. At last, they traveled through Sudan, Uganda, Congo, Rwanda, Tanzania, Mtito Andei in Kenya to Manda Island (Mboa) around AD 910. There they lived in peace until the day they were once again disturbed by a new enemy they called NGUUNTUNE (red clothes), the Portuguese, who started to hunt them for slaves to export to America. When the new enemy subdued the community and started to make harsh demands upon the people, they decided to escape from the Island and seek new homes elsewhere. That was around AD 1560's when they succeeded to escape out of the Island after which they found their way to Meru, their present home.Their journey from Mboa to Meru was another difficult journey that fatigued the community where many of their giants and men of valor perished in defense of their people against the wild animals that teamed the region. It is at that region where they encountered some enemies who teased them and gave them courage to fight on for existence. Finally, they reached Meru region where they settled and found peace to share in their different sub tribes and clans. Today, Meru community are social and hospitable people who can be relied upon by other communities. Their history is open and interesting to read. Read to know why, how and when they settled in their lovely Home Lands.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In examining the intellectual history in contemporary South Africa, Eze engages with the emergence of ubuntu as one discourse that has become a mirror and aftermath of South Africa s overall historical narrative. This book interrogates a triple socio-political representation of ubuntu as a displacement narrative for South Africa s colonial consciousness; as offering a new national imaginary through its inclusive consciousness, in which different, competing, and often antagonistic memories and histories are accommodated; and as offering a historicity in which the past is transformed as a symbol of hope for the present and the future. This book offers a model for African intellectual history indignant to polemics but constitutive of creative historicism and healthy humanism.

Book excerpt: "Forty lessons designed to introduce beginning students to the basic patterns and structures of Classical Chinese are taken from a number of pre-Han and Han texts selected to give students a grounding in exemplary Classical Chinese style. Two additional lessons use texts from later periods to help students appreciate the changes in written Chinese over the centuries. Each lesson consists of a text, a vocabulary list featuring discussions of meaning and usage, explanations of grammar, and explications of difficult passages. The standard modern Chinese, Japanese, and Korean pronunciations are indicated for each character, making this a learning tool for native speakers of those languages as well.Appendices give suggestions for further readings, review common and significant words, explain the radical system, and provide Japanese kanbun readings for all the selections. Glossaries of all vocabulary items and pronunciation indexes for modern Chinese and Korean are also included."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because writers are progressive and responsive, they stick to their routine in search of more information to justify their thinking. They therefore peruse existing records and compare, relate and analyze them to come up with fresh assumptions and conclusions. By doing so, they open up fresh topics for discussions and debates by the contemporary parties. That is how history is made and recorded in its chronicles.Ameru writers and authors in the past have lauded Meru History on the basis of "probably and possibly," "may be or perhaps," "this and that happened" in the making of history." By doing that, they have kept the flame burning for the subject to remain open to the historians who will come after they have left the scene. Those who come after them will never complain that they found an empty field to play their ball.On the other hand, our source of information while writing and editing this book has been well searched, selected, read very deeply, understood and thoroughly analyzed for inclusion to enlighten the interested readers to learn about Meru History and its Cultural Anthropology. However, we would wish our readers to understand that our information is comparable to a Radio announcer who gives you his information by sound only while the TV presenter gives you sound and pictures leaving you to become a potato in a sufuria ready to be cooked! Our information is from surviving and focused persons aged 100 years and above. People who were there in 1918 and beyond; thus, those who saw it and remembers it happening. Those who had listened to their grandfathers' and great grandfathers' fictions and non-fiction tales. These can relate and delete what is useless for our generations now seeking knowledge in our time. Their willingness to give information is not motivated by want of money, but pure urge to preserve our culture and traditions for our generations to come.In this case, this book gives you the clues while it leaves you at liberty to inquire, investigate, query, examine, explore and probe those contents to make your own conclusions about any topic of your choice. For your information History is for the continuation and perpetuation readers. That is why in Meru, there is a Kimeru idiom (Ntemi) that says, "Wijie ni wiiri (102)" meaning that, he who knows has been told. We kindly urge you to read to qualify as one of those "who are told," among the Kenyans. It is imperative to repeat here that, as we write, there are those who are "Jealous" in what is happening, because they wish they were the ones writing, but they have no time to spare to write anything. What is happening, is the writing our Meru History. People are now waking up from their deep slumber! They are disputing what is written, which of course is healthy, but beyond that they are in limbo! But while they remain in limbo, the History of Ameru is being forgotten very fast, if we were all to follow their example. "WE are writing for our generations" and that is our motto. That motto keeps us glowing and radiant, so that, when we die, "we will peacefully die empty-handed." WE, will not go into our graves with all our Knowledge. Remember that, there are noise makers who write good articles in News Papers that go into waste as soon as they are read. We consider these kind of people to be pedestrians in this world of generous historians who freely tell their stories.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Death is painful and fearful to humans. People fear death. Nobody feels comfortable talking about death. Death is unavoidable.Only God has control over death. When a villager dies, relatives and neighbors come to mourn and pray for the dead person; hoping that prayers will gain the dead relative entry into the gates of Heaven. That is Okay for those who believe in life after death.Even after burying our dead, we never forget them; instead we continue to pray for them on daily basis, we never disconnect our selves from them by saying: TILL WE MEET AGAIN! After this life, then what? Do you really believe that you are a being worthy living? If yes, why would you live and in the end you are nothing? Do you think that God did create you in vain? You be born, you grow and mature to die and vanish into oblivion? Is our God that simple? Do you really believe in God being simple? God is not simple; He created you with a purpose. The purpose was for you to know Him, to love Him, to praise Him and ultimately you go back to Him after death on leaving this world of struggle against the temptations of Satan. On the other hand, there those who do not know what happens when one dies and leaves this world. Others believe that the dead people become devils after death. Christians believe that dead people go back to their Creator, to account for their lives' actions- whether good or bad. This book is meant to encourage those who do good to continue doing good and even do better in their lives, so as to receive God's reward in heaven when they die and leave this world. The story is a narration of series of events encountered by one person, who was very sick and by God's grace was spared death to tell this story for the people to believe or disbelief. After sickness, the narrator lived about 38 years and died in April 2003 about ten years before the first publication of this book. You are encouraged to read this story to get insights of what happens to the souls, where they go or are thought to go and how they get treated when they leave their world after death. It is very interesting, you are encouraged to read and read. The story is long and volume II will follow soon. The book is an encouragement and not a discouragement in life.We know, people do not like talking about death, but there it is and it is part of us. Be blessed and be brave to continue reading to be encouraged to continue doing the best you can while you are in this world of struggle against the devil.Author: Tarcisio Francis Baimaana Gichunge

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first comprehensive volume on African ethics, centered on Ubuntu and its relevance today. Important contemporary issues are explored, such as African bioethics, business ethics, traditional African attitudes to the environment, and the possible development of a new form of democracy based on indigenous African political systems. In a world that has become interconnected, this anthology demonstrates that African ethics can make valuable contributions to global ethics. It is not only African academics, students, organizations, or those individuals committed to ethics that are envisaged as the beneficiaries of this book, but all humankind. A number of topics presented here were inspired by a Shona proverb that says, Ndarira imwe hairiri (One brass wire cannot produce a sound). The chorus of voices in African Ethics demonstrates this proverbial truism.

Every language with official status is included, as well as all those that have a written literature and 175 'minor' languages with special historical or anthropological interest. We see how, with the rapidly increasing uniformity of our culture as media's influence spreads, more languages have become extinct or are under threat of extinction. The text is highlighted by maps and charts of scripts, while proverbs, anecdotes and quotations reveal the features that make a language unique.
