Book excerpt: This volume contains the contributions to the Joint German/Austrian Con- rence on Arti?cial Intelligence, KI 2001, which comprises the 24th German and the 9th Austrian Conference on Arti?cial Intelligence. They are divided into the following categories: – 2 contributions by invited speakers of the conference; – 29 accepted technical papers, of which 5 where submitted as application papers and 24 as papers on foundations of AI; – 4 contributions by participants of the industrial day, during which companies working in the ?eld presented their AI applications. After a long period of separate meetings, the German and Austrian Societies ̈ for Arti?cial Intelligence, KI and OGAI, decided to hold a joint conference in Vienna in 2001. The two societies had previously held one joint conference. This took place in Ottstein, a small town in Lower Austria, in 1986. At that time, the rise of expert system technology had also renewed interest in AI in general, with quite some expectations for future advances regarding the use of AI techniques in applications pervading many areas of our daily life. Since then ?fteen years have passed, and we may want to comment, at the beginning of a newcentury, on the progress that has been made in this direction.

Book excerpt: After decades of basic research and more promises than impressive applications, artificial intelligence (AI) is starting to deliver benefits. A convergence of advances is motivating this new surge of AI development and applications. Computer capability as it has evolved from high throughput and high performance computing systems is increasing. AI models and operations research adaptations are becoming more mature, and the world is breeding big data not only from the web and social media but also from the Internet of Things. Organizations around the world have been realizing that there are substantial performance gains and increases in productivity for the use of AI and predictive analytics techniques. Their use is bringing a new era of breakthrough innovation and opportunities. This book, compiles research insights and applications in diverse areas such as manufacturing, supply chain management, pricing, autonomous vehicles, healthcare, ecommerce, and aeronautics. Using classical and advanced tools in AI such as deep learning, particle swarm optimization, support vector machines and genetic programming among others. This is a very distinctive book which discusses important applications using a variety of paradigms from AI and outlines some of the research to be performed. The work supersedes similar books that do not cover as diversified a set of sophisticated applications. The authors present a comprehensive and articulated view of recent developments, identifies the applications gap by quoting from the experience of experts, and details suggested research areas. Artificial Intelligence: Advances in Research and Applications guides the reader through an intuitive understanding of the methodologies and tools for building and modeling intelligent systems. The book's coverage is broad, starting with clustering techniques with unsupervised ensemble learning, where the optimal combination strategy of individual partitions is robust in comparison to the selection of an algorithmic clustering pool. This is followed by a case in a parallel-distributed simulator using deep learning for its configuration. Chapter Three presents a case for autonomous vehicles. Chapter Four discusses the novel use of genetic algorithms with support vector machines. Chapters Five through Thirteen focus on the applications. The book discusses how the use of AI can allow for productivity development and other benefits not just for businesses, but also for economies. Finally, you can find an interesting investigation of the transhuman dimension of AI.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The origin of the Intelligent Virtual Agents conference dates from a successful workshop on Intelligent Virtual Environments held in Brighton at the 13th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI'98). This workshop was followed by a second one held in Salford in Manchester in 1999. Subsequent events took place in Madrid, Spain in 2001 and Irsee, Germany in 2003 and attracted participants from both sides of the Atlantic as well as Asia. th This volume contains the proceedings of the 5 International Working Conference on Intelligent Virtual Agents, IVA 2005, held on Kos Island, Greece, September 12–14, 2005, which highlighted once again the importance and vigor of the research field. A half-day workshop under the title “Socially Competent IVA’s: We are not alone in this (virtual) world!” also took place as part of this event. IVA 2005 received 69 submissions from Europe, North and South America, Africa and Asia. The papers published here are the 26 full papers and 14 short papers presented at the conference, as well as one-page descriptions of the 15 posters and the descriptions of the featured invited talks by Prof. Justine Cassell, of Northwestern University and Prof. Kerstin Dautenhahn, of the University of Hertfordshire. We would like to thank a number of people that have contributed to the success of this conference. First of all, we thank the authors for their high-quality work and their willingness to share their ideas.

This book was released on 2018-03-08 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cyber-physical systems (CPS) are characterized as a combination of physical (physical plant, process, network) and cyber (software, algorithm, computation) components whose operations are monitored, controlled, coordinated, and integrated by a computing and communicating core. The interaction between both physical and cyber components requires tools allowing analyzing and modeling both the discrete and continuous dynamics. Therefore, many CPS can be modeled as hybrid dynamic systems in order to take into account both discrete and continuous behaviors as well as the interactions between them. Guaranteeing the security and safety of CPS is a challenging task because of the inherent interconnected and heterogeneous combination of behaviors (cyber/physical, discrete/continuous) in these systems. This book presents recent and advanced approaches and tech-niques that address the complex problem of analyzing the diagnosability property of cyber physical systems and ensuring their security and safety against faults and attacks. The CPS are modeled as hybrid dynamic systems using different model-based and data-driven approaches in different application domains (electric transmission networks, wireless communication networks, intrusions in industrial control systems, intrusions in production systems, wind farms etc.). These approaches handle the problem of ensuring the security of CPS in presence of attacks and verifying their diagnosability in presence of different kinds of uncertainty (uncertainty related to the event occurrences, to their order of occurrence, to their value etc.).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Formal concept analysis has been developed as a field of applied mathematics based on the mathematization of concept and concept hierarchy. It thereby allows us to mathematically represent, analyze, and construct conceptual structures. The formal concept analysis approach has been proven successful in a wide range of application fields. This book constitutes a comprehensive and systematic presentation of the state of the art of formal concept analysis and its applications. The first part of the book is devoted to foundational and methodological topics. The contributions in the second part demonstrate how formal concept analysis is successfully used outside of mathematics, in linguistics, text retrieval, association rule mining, data analysis, and economics. The third part presents applications in software engineering.
