Book excerpt: Eighteen-year-old Eddie Blackburn walked into his house after work expecting leftover pot roast to be warming in the oven. He didn't expect to fall in love. Prior to seeing Kelli Swanson sitting on his sofa, Eddie's only true love was baseball. The pair connected instantly, but he was certain she was way out of his league so it could never last. He felt stuck in place, running the family business after his father had walked away two years earlier, forcing him to drop out of school to choose family over a future on the mound. Kelli was a basketball star destined to leave their small Minnesota town behind for a major college program and the national spotlight. Intensely private, she hated the attention, longing to be anonymous. Personal and family issues led her to make choices that altered the path that once seemed a given. After it all fell apart, Eddie was there to pick up the pieces. When Cole Aaron Blackburn was born, Eddie vowed that he'd provide the guidance his son would need to change the family narrative and achieve something in life. Cole's incredible athletic skills forced his father to pull from his own experiences and make decisions that would have a deep effect on his son's future and perhaps alter the path of all three lives. Kelli's Pine is a place of redemption through love, perseverance, parenthood, and baseball.

Book excerpt: A Pine Lake Inn Cozy Mystery Box Set One: Books 1 to 3 Book 1: Death in Room 7 From the Author of the Darcy Sweet Mystery Series... Adelle Powers, or Dell as she is known around the town of Lakeshore, is living her dream life. She and her best friend Rosie Ryan are owners of the wonderfully quirky Pine Lake Inn, a very popular Australian tourist destination. Running her own inn is the only thing she has ever wanted to do and it is her pride and joy. So when Dell's friend Jessica calls to say she's coming for a visit Dell is ecstatic and can't wait to show it off to her friend. Surprisingly Dell finds that Rosie is less than thrilled about the visit and can't understand why. They were all such good friends, or so she thought. It would seem that Rosie may know something about Jessica's past that Dell doesn't. Some sort of secret that Rosie is reluctant to share with her. When Jessica is found dead in her room the following day it would appear that her secret past may have finally caught up with her. Horrified by the death of her good friend in her very own inn, Dell soon gets drawn into the mystery. And things take a turn for the very weird when Jessica's ghost visits her, more than once, directing Dell to clues that have been overlooked by a very incompetent police investigation. Soon Dell finds her own life in peril as she gets further into the mystery surrounding her friends life, and death. Book 2: Digging for Trouble On a rare morning off from the the Pine Lake Inn Dell Powers was just looking to take in a little fresh air and exercise. Walking out in the bush in the warm November breeze she thought it couldn't be more perfect. That is, until she came across old Arthur Loren, the resident town coot and fossicker. He was scrabbling around in the dirt like a madman muttering "Give it back" and making no sense at all. Had he completely lost his mind? Or was something more going on? What seemed like a routine medical issue of heat exhaustion becomes so much more as Dell, Kevin and James dig deeper into Arthur's life and the circumstances that brought him to be out in the bush at that time. Before Dell knows it she is tangled up in a mystery that has ties to a one hundred year old murder. Book 3: Murder, Wrapped Up Christmas is coming to the Pine Lake Inn. After the harrowing year she has had Dell Powers is soaking in the peace of the season. Feeling festive, she is spending her time decorating the inn and whistling Christmas Carols. All seems to be well in her life at last. Until, that is, she meets a stranger in the pub who turns out to be a Federal Police officer. He wants her to become a witness for the Federal Government and to spill the beans on the organized crime syndicate that has recently infiltrated her life. Not going to happen! When the officer turns up dead Dell is arrested for his murder. Will she be able to clear her name and be free to enjoy Christmas? And if that isn't enough just who does the deep and soft man's voice on the other end of the telephone belong to? Just another mystery for Dell to solve.

Book excerpt: Bestselling author Larry Goldsmith has created a story of a morally strong-willed woman much like the biblical character Joseph in that she survives her fateful situation to become a heroine. Hanna is a coming-of-age college student who must face a life-threatening situation. Treachery and deceit become the recipe for a good romance mystery. Mama’s husband enters a Chicago area hospital for routine medical tests and is allegedly killed by Hanna’s father due to medical malpractice. Stricken with grief, the widow plans revenge against the doctor who killed her husband. While murder is not on the menu, Mama devises a plan to cause the doctor to feel the pain of losing a loved one. She plans to take her revenge on an unsuspecting Hanna. Like Joseph in the Bible, Hanna not only survives being in a strange and foreign environment but because of her integrity is elevated to a position of a trusted confidant. In the end, Hanna finds the life that she desires and becomes the master of her own fate. The reader will discover that there is more than one payback in the story. There are the planned paybacks and ones created by fate. There is a lesson to be learned as the characters forgive those who wronged them, and in doing so, begin to move forward living their lives again. Author’s previous novels: Bashert and Marc Marci
