Book Synopsis A Progress Report on Keeping Our Bridges Safe by : Maine. Department of Transportation
Download or read book A Progress Report on Keeping Our Bridges Safe written by Maine. Department of Transportation and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Approximately a year has passed since MaineDOT published its report, "Keeping Our Bridges Safe." The report was requested by Governor John E. Baldacci by Executive Order and tasked MaineDOT with reviewing policies and processes related to bridge maintenance and capital actions. It is appropriate to issue an update regarding MaineDOT's progress toward the goals outlined in that report, and to discuss other activity. Maine bridges are still safe. Additional funding provided by LD 2313 An Act to Keep Bridges Safe and Roads Passable, and implementation of the many recommendations contained in the original report, will continue to improve Maine bridge safety. Over the next six months, MaineDOT intends to advertise $130 million worth of bridge work. It is well known that there are discussions in Congress concerning a stimulus bill, which would authorize substantial additional funding for immediate use for highway and bridge improvements. It is uncertain at this point how much funding may become available or if it will actually occur. However, LD2313 provided the early commitment to funding bridge improvements. The associated activity has positioned Maine DOT well to take advantage of additional funding, and many bridge projects have been identified that could be advertised within the likely constraints of the legislation. By combining capital funding increases from LD2313 and possible stimulus money with the continued implementation of the report's other recommendations, MaineDOT will be able to continue to make overall improvements in the state's bridge inventory."--page 3

Book Synopsis Bridge Safety, Maintenance and Management in a Life-Cycle Context by : Dan M. Frangopol
Download or read book Bridge Safety, Maintenance and Management in a Life-Cycle Context written by Dan M. Frangopol and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-02-16 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past two decades, it has been generally acknowledged that life-cycle bridge analysis can be a systematic tool to address efficient and effective bridge management under uncertainty life-cycle management at the bridge network level can lead to an improvement in the allocation of limited financial resources, ensuring the safety and functionality of the bridge network life-cycle management of bridges and bridge networks based on resilience and sustainability can improve their resistance and robustness to extreme events such as earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, and hurricanes bridge management should consider the impact of environmental conditions and climate change This book addresses important concepts and approaches developed recently on bridge safety, maintenance, and management in a life-cycle context. Bridge life-cycle performance and cost analysis, prediction, optimization, and decision making under uncertainty are discussed. The major topics include bridge safety and service life prediction; bridge inspection and structural health monitoring; bridge maintenance; life-cycle bridge and bridge network management; optimum life-cycle bridge management planning; resilience and sustainability of bridges and bridge networksunder hazards; and bridge management considering climate change. By providing practical applications of the presented concepts and approaches, this book can help students, researchers, practitioners, infrastructure owners and managers, and transportation officials to build up their knowledge of life-cycle bridge performance and cost management at bothproject level and network level under various deteriorating mechanisms, hazards and climate change effects.

Download or read book Bridging the Gap written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2009-02 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offers information on the conditions, age and costs to repair and modernize the nation¿s 590,000 bridges as well as key examples showcasing new inspection and construction technologies. Key findings: (1) Within the next 15 years almost half of the nation¿s bridges will exceed 50 years of age, exceeding the life span for which they were designed. Even now, one in five are over 50; (2) With age comes decay. One in four of our bridges are rated as deficient, either in need of repair or in need of widening to handle today¿s traffic; (3) New estimates show that more than $140 billion will be needed to fix them; (4) Soaring construction costs have whittled away the ability of states to address preventive maintenance and new bridge construction.
