Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus was born and raised as a Jew in first-century Palestine. A great deal of theological study has focused on the Jewish cultural and religious context of his life and ministry. It is only natural that this attention should lead us to a new approach to his mother, Mary of Nazareth. In this book, Mary Christine Athans draws on historical research, the fruits of post-Vatican II Jewish-Christian dialogue, the insights of feminist theology, and contemporary spiritual reflection to rediscover the Jewish Mary - a woman of enormous courage, strength, and prayer.

Book Synopsis Sisters of Survival by : Jerri Allyn
Download or read book Sisters of Survival written by Jerri Allyn and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sisters Of Survival (S.O.S.) is an anti-nuclear performance art group founded in 1981 by Jerri Allyn, Nancy Angelo, Anne Gauldin, Cheri Gaulke and Sue Maberry. Clothing themselves in the colors of the rainbow, their imagery evoked hope, humor and a celebration of diversity. Inspired by anti-nuclear war demonstrations in Europe, S.O.S. created END OF THE RAINBOW, a three-part conceptual art project that generated dialogue between the people of North America and Western Europe about the nuclear threat. Their work included public performance art staged for the media as well as the general public, artists' books, a billboard, slide lectures, networking with artist and activist groups, a radio program and a traveling exhibition. Learn more about this pioneering group whose art and media strategies addressed global issues that remain urgent today. This catalogue is published by Otis College of Art and Design in conjunction with the exhibition "Doin' It in Public: Feminism and Art at the Woman's Building," October 1, 2011 - February 26, 2012, organized by the Ben Maltz Gallery and supported by the Getty initiative "Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. 1945-1980." Download or read book James and Nora written by Edna O'Brien and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2020-06-11 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was June 10th, Barnacle Day. He saw her in Nassau Street and they stopped to talk. She thought his blue eyes were those of a Norseman. He was twenty-two, and she, Nora Barnacle, was twenty and employed as a chambermaid in Finn's Hotel. They agreed to meet on June 14th, outside No. 1 Merrion Square, the home of Sir William Wilde, but Nora did not turn up. After a dejected letter from Joyce they met on June 16th, a date which came to be immortalized in literature as Bloomsday. Edna O'Brien paints a miniature portrait of an artist, idealist, insurgent and filled with a secret loneliness. In Nora, he was to find accomplice, collaborator and muse. For all their sexual escalations, Joyce considered their relationship 'a kind of sacrament'. Their life was one of wandering, emotional upheaval and poverty. It was also one that was binding and mysterious, and defied all the mores of intimacy. In prose brimming with life and energy, Edna O'Brien resurrects a relationship of magnificent intensity on the page, and in doing so shows herself to be touched by the genius of the writer she loves above all others.

Sometimes controversial, always committed to the development of art in America, from 1966 to 1995 the NEA awarded many such artists' fellowships to recipients in a diverse range of disciplines. A Creative Legacy presents a compelling insider account of this innovative government program -- how its policies were determined, its panelists selected, and the artists evaluated. The 100 color and nearly 200 black-and-white illustrations showcase a significant sampling of work by both notable and less-recognized honorees; all recipients from 1965 to 1995 are listed in the extensive indices.
