Book excerpt: In the third published volume of Canadian literary critic Frye's (1912-91) 77 holograph notebooks, the material is mostly from the 1970s, when he was writing the first of his books on the Bible, The Great Code. However, it begins with Notebook Three from the late 1940s in which he writes primarily on religious themes. It concludes with Notebook 23 from the middle 1980s, written between his first and second book on the Bible; and one from the 1960s devoted largely to his reading of Dante's Purgatorio and the first ten cantos of the Paradiso. Altogether the volume contains 11 notebooks, three sets of typed notes, and a transcription of 24 lectures on The Mythological Framework of Western Culture in 1981-82. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though few might think to connect the two figures, Ralph Waldo Emerson was an important influence on Friedrich Nietzsche. Specifically, Emerson played a fundamental role in shaping Nietzsche's philosophical ideas on individualism, perfectionism, and the pursuit of virtue, as well as his critiques of social conditioning, religious dogmatism, and anti-natural morality. With Individuality and Beyond, Benedetta Zavatta offers the first philosophical interpretation of Emerson's influence on Nietzsche based on a sound philological analysis of previously unpublished materials from Nietzsche's private library. Nietzsche's collection reveals numerous copies of Emerson's essays covered with annotations and marginalia as Nietzsche revisited these works throughout his life. Through close-reading, Zavatta casts a new light on the ways in which Emerson's work informed Nietzsche's defining ideas of self-creation, the relation between fate and free will, overcoming morality of customs and achieving moral autonomy, and the "transvaluation" of such values as compassion and altruism. Zavatta organizes these concepts into two main lines of thought: the first concerns the development of the individual personality, or the achievement of intellectual and moral autonomy and original self-expression. The second, on the contrary, concerns the overcoming of individuality and the need to transcend a limited view of the world by continually questioning one's own values and engaging with opposing perspectives. Ultimately, Zavatta clarifies the surprising contributions that Emerson made to 20th century European philosophy. She provides a fresh portrait of Emerson as an American thinker long stereotyped as a naïve idealist disinterested in the social issues of his day. Seen through the eyes of Nietzsche, his acute interpreter, Emerson becomes an incisive cultural critic, whose contributions underpin contemporary philosophy.

This book was released on 2023-05-25 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Meeting. A Journal. A Price to Pay. A Life to Gain. "The Tollbooth" follows the story of business meeting between Mr. Robert Campbell, the CEO of a multinational conglomerate, and an employee who is looking for more. During this encounter, Mr. Campbell shares something he's never shown to anyone: a hand-written journal. Within its pages, the employee learns invaluable life lessons, strategic business insights, and, most important of all, the secret to a transcendent life. "The Tollbooth" is the second (and favorite!) of author John Feloni's trio of books, which include "The Covenant Secret," that propound and elucidate time-tested as well as contemporary philosophies on life and business. Each book is a modern-day exemplum, or parable, with the concepts presented in a riveting story that entertains as much as it educates. "Hollywood Digest" writes that Mr. Feloni "makes the giving and sharing of ideas and hard knocks feel effortless." Learn the secrets to life and business today. The toll owed is small and the reward gained is mighty. GREAT QUOTES YOU WILL FIND IN THE TOLLBOOTH "Most people live their lives in a state of hypnosis, never really living life the way it’s supposed to be lived." "One must be diligent in keeping one’s attention off of the undesirable condition. In meditation, contemplation, and prayer, one should take the time and energy to focus on the desired condition." "When you meditate, contemplate, or pray, give thanks for the good things in your life." "You don’t become healthy by becoming an expert on disease, which, for the most part, is how medical doctors are trained. You must become an expert on health." "We were made in God’s image. We are designed to fulfill our inner nature. As God’s children we were made to be everything our inner voice tells us that we can be. This is the Truth of the physical universe over which God has given us dominion. Forget opinions!" "That’s why now is the time for you to break free of them. I’ve been where you are. Confusion, frustration, harassment from your loved ones, the death of a loved one, a yearning inside, passion eating at you, fear, everything. I’ve been there." "But now is the time for you to free yourself of all the shackles that bind you." "The most important thing I see in you is the beautiful music your heart is making. It’s singing out in wonderful harmony. It’s so obvious. You’ve got to listen to it. You are as ready as you’ll ever be to live your life as it was meant to be lived. Go for it!" WHY 40 DAYS? In Biblical and spiritual terms, the number 40 stands for a period of gestation, of waiting, of growth, of cleansing, and of the development of spirit. During this period, a soul desirous of “enlightenment” will find him- or herself wandering in a spiritual wilderness and undergoing tests and trials on all planes of being. For example . . . - During the Great Flood, it rained for 40 days and 40 nights. - The Israelites wandered the desert for 40 years in search of the Promised Land. - Moses spent 40 days on Mount Sinai in commune with God. - After he was baptized, Jesus spent 40 days meditating in the desert. - The Catholic Lent is for 40 days. - After the resurrection, Jesus appeared to the apostles for 40 days. - Buddha sat for 40 days under a tree before achieving enlightenment. - The Archangel Gabriel first appeared to Mohammad when he was 40-years-old. - A child lies some 40 weeks in the womb. - Strangely enough, the author was 40-years-old when he finished this book in 1998. Book excerpt: What should have been a simple employment interview for Aadhya Mhann, a middle-class Punjabi lady in her early twenties, turned into a gruesome gang rape by 6 men, 4 of them being part of the most influential circles in Mumbai. Aadhya had the opportunity to seek for legal help and she had enough evidence to make sure all 6 men were locked up for years, but she chose to do things her own way. The justice system always had a soft spot for rich and influential people and even when it didn't, the culprits of the crime enjoyed minimal sentences compared to the torture and trauma they put their victims through. Aadhya didn't want her rapists to be let off that easy. She had to make all of them suffer… But she couldn't do it alone. Aadhya finds and recruits 5 other girls that have been raped at some points in their lives. Manju, Sudesha, Palakh, Sathya and Lakshmi. They all came from different backgrounds, castes, and social classes, but they all had the same objective: To make the fuckers that had raped them regret ever having dicks! They were willing to step out of the restrictions of the law and make sure that these vile men get the punishment they deserve for their atrocities. Creating an elaborate, covert operation with Aadhya at the helm, they combine their resources and talents and go on a revenge rampage. One by one, the girls target the 10 men that had raped any one of them, and kill them off in the most gruesome and blood-curling way possible. They leave the most psychologically draining death for Akash Rathore, the biggest and richest pervert of them all. The murders and the elaborate ways in which they are carried out shakes the core of Mumbai. What is more mysterious is that no one has any idea who the killers are as the girls are always careful to keep their identities secret. As time goes by, the painful pasts of the girls are revealed and they create the most unlikely of bonds with each other. They become pillars for each other, and the deaths of their rapists becomes the glue that brings them together.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stuck in a Day Dream is a simple story about a young boy and the journey he refuses to embark on. In the middle of high school, he finds himself, like most teens, torn between what people expect him to do and should do versus what he wants to do. He was adamant on choosing the latter. This novel is a book that speaks to many, in our present age, who are both very much alike and unlike the protagonist. Its a thoughtful conversation with those unsure of themselves on how to become so and offers assurance to those who are. In our day and age where individual uniqueness is constantly being leveled among others, this novel speaks to each young person about what it means to be young and how to remain so.
