Book Synopsis In Search of a Full Life by : Leonard J. DeLorenzo
Download or read book In Search of a Full Life written by Leonard J. DeLorenzo and published by Our Sunday Visitor. This book was released on 2023-12-19 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maybe you are a committed young adult Catholic, or maybe you're not Catholic at all. Perhaps you were baptized and even completed your initiation into the Catholic Church through First Communion and Confirmation, and yet you don't think of yourself as "Catholic" first. Wherever you are in life, you're probably seeking a life with deeper meaning and substance. Living a full life is more than just taking care of yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually and doing nice things for others; it's about becoming like Jesus. And in order to do this, we must "give up childish ways," as Saint Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians. We must be open to growth and strive to become mature adults. Tackling a host of cultural and developmental topics, including prayer, friendships, dating, discernment, and more, In Search of a Full Life empowers young people with real guidance on the way to a full life of significance and consequence. In this book, Dr. Leonard DeLorenzo offers practical, achievable advice for growing in Christian maturity and becoming the person God created you to be. “There are few better than Dr. DeLorenzo at taking the biggest ideas and making them practical and accessible to folks in their everyday lives. The rich set of reflections in this very readable book are a treasure trove for those who not only want to think — but to do.” Charles C. Camosy, Author and Professor of Medical Humanities, Creighton University School of Medicine “In the blink of an eye, my nieces and nephews will be young adults. When that day comes, I will gift them Dr. DeLorenzo’s book, In Search of a Full Life. Filled with incisive, relevant, and practical advice, his book invites its reader to ask the essential questions about life, and to consider what will now, and forever, endure. I, personally, was struck by the wisdom contained in these pages. I have no doubt that those who read this book will, as DeLorenzo desires, become 'more confident, more open, more creative, and more real ... as [they] were created and are called to become.'” Fr. Aaron Wessman, PhD, Vicar General of the Glenmary Home Missioners, author of The Church’s Mission in a Polarized World “What a gift! Doctor DeLorenzo gives us the best of his practical wisdom and spiritual insight in his amazing work, In Search of a Full Life: A Practical and Spiritual Guide. Addressing various topics of life with tangible warmth and a kindly spirit, he offers guidance on Christian living and leads us through the process of reaching a fullness of life in Jesus Christ. This is a great book for young people. This is a great book for everyone!”—Fr. Jeffrey Kirby, STD “In Search of a Full Life is an honest and accessible guide for genuine seekers who long for a rich inner life in a distracted, unsettled age.” Abigail Favale, PhD, Professor of the Practice, McGrath Institute for Church Life. Concurrent Professor, Theology, University of Notre Dame

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Charlotte Chandler did so well in her previous biographies, she will again draw on the recorded words of Joan Crawford and those who knew her well to paint a rich portrait of the woman and the star. Joan Crawford was born Lucille LeSueur in Texas in 1908. She became a chorus girl in silent films before finding her voice in Possessed(1931) with Clark Gable. Their affair would continue, on and off screen, for many years. Throughout the thirties, Joan continued to earn critical acclaim for her forte of playing career women who never gave up. Her Oscar-winning film Mildred Piercein 1945 began the long-running feud between Joan and Bette Davis, which reached its height with Whatever Happened to Baby Janein 1962. Joan was married four times including once to Douglas Fairbanks Jr, who spoke extensively to Charlotte Chandler for this book. Following her death, Joan's decision to cut her eldest children out of her will prompted her daughter Christina to write the damning bookMommie Dearest which changed Joan's image forever. Charlotte Chandler spent many hours recording interviews with Joan and also those closest to her. What emerges is a subtle portrait of a complex women and a new insight into the legendary actress.

Book Synopsis Just Passing Through by : H. Peter Zell
Download or read book Just Passing Through written by H. Peter Zell and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2020-09-28 with total page 729 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this updated and revised edition of Just Passing Through: A German American Family Saga, first published in 2011, the author tells the story of several generations of his unique but dysfunctional family spanning over a hundred years including the two world wars. Peter Zell was eight years old when World War II ended and in a prologue entitled A German - American Childhood recounts his boyhood experiences that included the apocalyptic firebombing of his hometown of Stuttgart by the western Allies, the postwar occupation of Germany, and his family’s emigration to America. The book centers on the author’s mother, whom her children called Mutti, and her ordeal during the Nazi era for having been married to a Jew, the son of prosperous Frankfurt business owners, with whom she had two children. With anti-Semitism on the rise in Germany, her husband decided to emigrate to America but Mutti chose to remain behind to take care of her ailing father. The couple had an amicable divorce and while her ex-husband took their son with him, their daughter remained with Mutti in Germany. Under the Nuremberg Laws of 1935, mother and daughter now found themselves classified as non-Aryans which meant that Mutti could not remarry while their teenage daughter, being half Jewish, was put in dire jeopardy of her life. At this point Mutti’s older brother, himself a dedicated National Socialist, proposed an unconventional solution that ensured her survival. Following his advice, she had more children, fathered by so-called Aryans, who were eventually all brought to America. The book follows the lives of the five siblings, all half-brothers and half-sisters, and their difficult relationships with each other as each seeks to achieve his or her version of the American Dream.

Book Synopsis Sun Yatsen, Robert Wilcox and Their Failed Revolutions, Honolulu and Canton 1895 by : Patrick Anderson
Download or read book Sun Yatsen, Robert Wilcox and Their Failed Revolutions, Honolulu and Canton 1895 written by Patrick Anderson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-06-27 with total page 523 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamite on the Tropic of Cancer is the radical, explosive retelling of the first decade of the 'Father of Modern China' Dr Sun Yatsen’s globally shaped formation as a professional revolutionist, and of the impact of the adult Sun’s revolutionary relationship with Hawaiʻi and with his varied communities of supporters there during its own most turbulent political decade, the 1890s, years in which this remote island nation transformed from native monarchy, via sovereign independent republic, to become the USA’s first overseas territory. Drawn from neglected primary sources, Dynamite reveals the hitherto untold story of the secret revolutionary alliance forged in Honolulu’s backstreets between Sun’s Xingzhonghui and the idiosyncratic italophile soldier Robert Wilcox, "Hawaiʻi’s Garibaldi" and leader of the Kanaka/Native Hawaiian counterrevolution of January 1895. This failed uprising to restore Hawaiʻi’s tragic last Queen, witnessed firsthand by Sun Yatsen, became the archetype upon which ten months later Sun would base his own first attempt at armed insurrection in China: the Canton uprising of 26 October 1895. With an epic sweep across the Pacific’s Tropic of Cancer, Dynamite is the most important study yet written on the origins of Sun Yatsen’s Chinese Revolution and its dynamic interface with Hawaiian history.
