He is the eldest son of an eldest son; I am the younger son of a second son: and whereas I am a sub. In an infantry regiment, grilling on the plains of India, and working for my daily bread, Algy has run out for one cold weather, merely in search of variety and amusement. Why on earth should relations think it necessary to meet on one particular day, in order to eat a tasteless bird and an indigestible pudding? Book excerpt: Jungle Tales of Tarzan by Edgar Rice Burroughs The sixth book of Tarzan, King of the Jungle. This is actually a collection of several short stories all about the times when Tarzan was a young boy and a teenager being raised by the great apes. The young Tarzan was unlike the great apes who were his only companions and playmates. Theirs was a simple, savage life, filled with little but killing or being killed. But Tarzan had all of a normal boy's desire to learn. He had painfully taught himself to read from books left by his dead father. Now he sought to apply this book knowledge to the world around him. He sought for such things as the source of dreams and the whereabouts of God. And he searched for the love and affection that every human being needs. But he was alone in his struggles to grow and understand. The life of the jungle had no room for abstractions. He won't return till morning, so I may as well go to bed. The same old story. Tom has broken another promise, in Spite of his word. It was an hour before dark when he took the rifle away to sell, and instead of bringing the money home he has squandered it on drink. No doubt he is lying now in some foul hole, stupid with liquor. And not a rupee in the house. What is going to become of us I don't know. The business has gone to wreck and min, and I am not fit for anything else, or I should have tried long ago to find employment. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Jungle Tales: Adventures in India If you were a boy in India - You would often feel terrified. Tigers, bears, panthers, leopards, and wild boar teem in the jungle, and the Arms Act forbids natives to have firearms. You would feel hungry. Millions of Hindus go through life without once having a full stomach. You would feel hopeless. Out of a thousand Hindus only fifty ever learn to read. Almost all are desperately poor - average income, five cents a day. As there is no democracy in India, if you were born low down in the social scale you must remain there. A rigid caste system, centuries old and sanctioned by the Hindu religion, forbids you to rise. But perhaps you would not feel at all, as it is more than likely that by this time you would be dead. Book excerpt: Jungle Tales of Tarzan: Large print by Edgar Rice Burroughs From safety points in the trees the great apes watched, screaming hatred at Sheeta and advice at Tarzan, for the progenitors of man have, naturally, many human traits. Teeka was frightened. She screamed at the bulls to hasten to Tarzan's assistance; but the bulls were otherwise engaged--principally in giving advice and making faces. Anyway, Tarzan was not a real Mangani, so why should they risk their lives in an effort to protect him? With war spears they loosened the thick, black loam and the deep layers of rotting vegetation. With heavy-nailed fingers they scooped away the disintegrated earth from the center of the age-old game trail. Often they ceased their labors to squat, resting and gossiping, with much laughter, at the edge of the pit they were digging. This book was released on 2018-09-13 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Herein are a collection of illustrated children’s stories and poems by the English author Rudyard Kipling set in the jungles of India. Originally published as short stories in a magazine, so popular were they, that the author was persuaded to put them into a book as a single collection. The Jungle Book, and its sequel, are now considered to be a classic of children’s literature. The principal character is the boy or "man-cub" Mowgli, who is raised in the jungle by wolves. The stories feature Mowgli the man-cub’s adventures with his animal brethren and the lessons they teach him in order to survive. Set in a forest in India; thought to be the "Seonee" (Seoni) forest in the central state of Madhya Pradesh, the supporting cast of characters are animals such as Akela the wolf, Shere Khan the tiger, Baloo the bear, Kaa the python and Rikki-Tikki-Tavi the mongoose amongst the many which feature. The story traces his growth from man-cub to young man and his eventual re-introduction into human society and the struggles of letting go of old friends and relationships in order to move on. So sit back with a steamy beverage and be prepared to be entertained for many-an-hour. If and when you come to pick up the story where you left it, don’t be surprised if you find a younger reader is now engrossed in the book and is reluctant to let it go. 10% of the net sale will be donated to charities by the publisher. ============== KEYWORDS/TAGS: The Jungle Book, Rudyard Kipling, Indian Jungle, Tales from Old India, fairy tales, folklore, myths, legends, children’s stories, childrens stories, bygone era, fairydom, ethereal, fairy land, classic stories, children’s bedtime stories, happy place, happiness, Mowgli, Brothers, Hunting-Song, Seeonee Pack, Kaa, Road-Song, Bandar-Log, Tiger, White Seal, Lukannon, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, Rikki Tikki Tavi, Darzee, Chaunt, Toomai, Elephants, Shiv, Grasshopper, Her Majesty, Servant, Parade-Song, Camp Animals, Bagheera, Shere Khan, Baloo, seoni, forest, Madhya Pradesh, Bagheera, Nag, Kotick, Kala, Akela, Wolf, Sea, Brother, Nagaina, mother, Billy, Petersen, Father, Sahib, Council, buffaloes, Tabaqui, Buldeo, camel, Novastoshnah, holluschickie, mongoose, Monkey, Matkah, Waingunga, naked, Keddah, talking, India, companions, Kerick, Machua, cobra, Appa, Man, Chuchundra

Reading about the Indians I learned to admire their loyalty, bravery, and skill in hunting and fishing. I always wanted to visit primitive Indians and live among them. My husband has been an explorer most of his life. He has shot lions in Africa; the skin of one of them is stretched on the floor of his room. The more my husband told me of his experiences, the more eager I was to go. So you can imagine how excited I was when my husband received a commission from a museum to collect Indian handicraft. From among the primi tive Indian tribes who live in the jungle of British Guiana, we were to collect pottery, beads, feather ornaments, bows and arrows, blowguns, and other articles of ornament and use.
