Book excerpt: In the depths of the African jungle, passion and terror mate! Unaware that the man's popular "true adventures" were pure pulp fiction, Bob Lake's publisher sent him on a safari into Africa. When the plane crashes in an unexplored region of the jungle, death lingers at every hand, from savage beasts to primitive natives -- all determined to ravish the white invaders! Originally published as Jungle Nymph and later in a somewhat altered form as Jungle Goddess, here is the author's preferred text, complete with new, fresh material written especially for this edition.

Book excerpt: All five volumes in one scorching, unforgettable book!Includes the following: Dawn of the Jungle Goddess, Return of the Jungle Goddess, Passion of the Jungle Goddess, Return of the Jungle Goddess, and Flight of the Jungle Goddess. When a freak accident leaves them stranded on the unexplored island of Molonga, Professor Julius Stevenson and his wife Natalia find themselves struggling for survival. Faced with certain death at the hands of the natives, Natalia makes a hasty decision and assumes the identity of their goddess, Tara'ana, the cuckoldress. In so doing, she starts the formerly uptight academics hurtling down a path that will change the nature of their marriage forever.Armed with the Molongans' sacred scrolls, they know just what is expected of the gods they are impersonating, however shocking those expectations may be. The question is: are they willing to take the breathtaking risks necessary to keep up their ruse? As they spiral headlong into a world of island debauchery, the castaways realize, to their mutual surprise, that they are not altogether unsuited to their new roles. Almost from the beginning, the beautiful Natalia discovers a bold, exhibitionist streak she never knew she possessed, while Julius comes to realize that the sight of his alluring wife in the arms of another man turns him on in ways that he could never have imagined. Bit by bit, the lives they knew before begin to fade away, slowly replaced by a darker, more exciting existence. Will the two professors find their way off the island? Or are they destined to live out their days as island deities, acting out the depraved scenes described in the Molongans' sacred texts? And if they are rescued, will their marriage be salvageable?

This book was released on 2012-03-01 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All histories of Hollywood are wrong. Why? Two words: Colonel Selig. This early pioneer laid the foundation for the movie industry that we know today. Active from 1896 to 1938, William N. Selig was responsible for an amazing series of firsts, including the first two-reel narrative film and the first two-hour narrative feature made in America; the first American movie serial with cliffhanger endings; the first westerns filmed in the West with real cowboys and Indians; the creation of the jungle-adventure genre; the first horror film in America; the first successful American newsreel (made in partnership with William Randolph Hearst); and the first permanent film studio in Los Angeles. Selig was also among the first to cultivate extensive international exhibition of American films, which created a worldwide audience and contributed to American domination of the medium. In this book, Andrew Erish delves into the virtually untouched Selig archive at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Library to tell the fascinating story of this unjustly forgotten film pioneer. He traces Selig’s career from his early work as a traveling magician in the Midwest, to his founding of the first movie studio in Los Angeles in 1909, to his landmark series of innovations that still influence the film industry. As Erish recounts the many accomplishments of the man who first recognized that Southern California is the perfect place for moviemaking, he convincingly demonstrates that while others have been credited with inventing Hollywood, Colonel Selig is actually the one who most deserves that honor.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Shuri, and Black Widow. These four characters portray very different versions of women: the superheroine, the abuse victim, the fourth wave princess, and the spy, respectively. In this in-depth analysis of female characters in superhero media, the author begins by identifying ten eras of superhero media defined by the way they portray women. Following this, the various archetypes of superheroines are classified into four categories: boundary crossers, good girls, outcasts, and those that reclaim power. From Golden Age comics through today's hottest films, heroines have been surprisingly assertive, diverse, and remarkable in this celebration of all the archetypes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early years of television relied in part on successful narratives of another medium, as studios adapted radio programs like Boston Blackie and Defense Attorney to the small screen. Many shows were adapted more than once, like the radio program Blondie, which inspired six television adaptations and 28 theatrical films. These are but a few of the 1,164 programs covered in this volume. Each program entry contains a detailed story line, years of broadcast, performer and character casts and principal production credits where possible. Two appendices ("Almost a Transition" and "Television to Radio") and a performer's index conclude the book. This first-of-its-kind encyclopedia covers many little-known programs that have rarely been discussed in print (e.g., Real George, based on Me and Janie; Volume One, based on Quiet, Please; and Galaxy, based on X Minus One). Covered programs include The Great Gildersleeve, Howdy Doody, My Friend Irma, My Little Margie, Space Patrol and Vic and Sade.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the beginning of the sound era until the end of the 1930s, independent movie-making thrived. Many of the independent studios were headquartered in a section of Hollywood called "Poverty Row." Here the independents made movies on the cheap, usually at rented facilities where shooting was limited to only a few days. From Allied Pictures Corporation to Willis Kent Production, 55 Poverty Row Studios are given histories in this book. Some of the studios, such as Diversion Pictures and Cresent Pictures, came into existence for the sole purpose of releasing movies by established stars. Others, for example J.D. Kendis, were early exploitation filmmakers under the guise of sex education. The histories include critical commentary on the studio's output and a filmography of all titles released from 1929 through 1940.
