Book excerpt: When they left America in the 1930s to serve as missionaries in the remote jungles of Liberia, West Africa, Harold and Ella Landrus could never have imagined the challenges they would face. They had no way of knowing the joys they would experience, the heartbreaks they would endure, nor the unbelievable adventures they would encounter. From deadly snakes, to marauding leopards, rampaging elephants, and terrifying airplane crashes, the Landrus family faced every challenge with faith, courage, and purpose. Written by a retired missionary who spent time with Harold and Ella while they were still ministering in Liberia, their story will challenge and inspire you. This is the account of a remarkable missionary family striving to make a difference in the lives of native tribespeople deep in the jungles of the African interior. They led lives of worth and meaning while living out adventures that go beyond anything any movie could ever offer. The difference is their story is true.

Book excerpt: What is courage? Certainly it takes courage for a firefighter to rescue someone trapped in a burning building, but there are many other kinds of courage too. Everyday kinds that normal, ordinary people exhibit all the time, like “being the first to make up after an argument,” or “going to bed without a nightlight.” Bernard Waber explores the many varied kinds of courage and celebrates the moments, big and small, that bring out the hero in each of us.

This book was released on 2023-04-30 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Ant and the Elephant" "A Story of Courage and Friendship in the Jungle." The outline of this story: The tale of Andy the ant and Elly the elephant is a beautiful example of how to persevere in the face of adversity, demonstrate courage, and form lasting friendships. A modest anthill was home for Andy and his family, where they shared the space with other ants. He always got up very early, went out to find something to eat, and then worked nonstop throughout the entire day. When he was foraging for food one day, he came across a large elephant with the name Elly. Elly was taking a stroll through the woods, taking in the scenery and appreciating the fresh air. Andy was awestruck by how enormous the elephant was and puzzled over how it managed to make a living in the wild despite its massive size. Elly instilled in Andy the importance of having courage, fighting for what you believe in, and being kind as their friendship developed. They had to collaborate to find solutions to the many challenges they faced in the wilderness, such as rescuing animals that were in danger and preventing people from cutting down trees. Andy and Elly demonstrated that they could triumph against even the most formidable foes by cooperating with one another and making full use of all their abilities. In the wild, they transformed into heroes who encouraged others to fight together for what they believed in and stand up for what they believed to defend their homes and their lives. The selfless and courageous actions that they took were taken note of. When the other animals in the jungle learned what they had done, they congratulated them for their bravery and their determination. Andy and Elly's exploits in the jungle had become legendary. They were revered and admired by every other animal in the forest. The narrative imparts valuable life lessons, like how crucial it is to put in hard work, to have courage, and to be compassionate. It demonstrates how effective it is to collaborate with others to achieve a goal, as well as how vital it is to speak up for what one believes in. Andy and Elly passed away at the same time, but both remained steadfast in their commitment to preserve the forest and inspire others to do the same. They were aware that there was still a great deal of work ahead of them, but they were also aware that if they worked together, they could accomplish anything. Readers of any age will find inspiration in the timelessness of Andy and Elly's story, which is a tale of friendship, bravery, and unwavering persistence. This is how the story began: Andy was an ant who used to reside in a very large forest. Once upon a time. Andy was a hard-working ant who had a lot of determination. Andy, a hard-working ant, and his family and other ants all shared a modest anthill as their home. The anthill was situated on the border of the forest and was encompassed on all sides by dense vegetation and leaves. There was a steady flow of new ants entering and exiting the anthill throughout the day. Andy's family was a close-knit group that looked out for each other in order to stay alive while they were out in the wilderness. They would emerge from the anthill in the wee hours of the morning to search for food. Within the ant colony, each individual ant served a specific purpose. While some ants went in search of food, others brought what they found back to the anthill. The queen ant, who served as the colony's leader, would always remain in the anthill to produce offspring. After they emerged from their eggs, the caterpillars fed on the food that was brought to them by the worker ants until they were mature enough to transform into adults. Andy cared deeply for his family and the people in his community, and he exerted a lot of effort to ensure that they would all be safe. Every day, even though doing so required him to leave the anthill, he went in search of food. He was never one to whine about the burdens of carrying heavy goods on his back. He was aware of the significance of the strenuous effort he was making for the survival of his group. Andy's fervor and doggedness impressed the other ants, who admired him for it. They were aware that he played an essential role in the community and appreciated the work that he accomplished. Despite the challenges they faced, the colony of ants living in the anthill was joyful and robust. They were able to overcome any challenges by relying on one another and cooperating with one another. Andy was aware that he was only a minor contributor to a much larger group, but he also understood the significance of his role. He took great pride in the fact that he was an ant and that he lived in a colony that was so nearby.

Book excerpt: Want to make a move but scared to leave your comfort zone? Go anyway. “Jessica's perspective of global sisterhood and the power of lifting each other up in the midst of fear and scarcity is exactly what we need today. This book is both an invitation and a challenge to bravely show up for ourselves, for the people we love, and for the strangers that we will one day call family. I say, Amen!” —Brené Brown, Ph.D., Author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Braving the Wilderness In Imperfect Courage, the founder of the popular fair trade jewelry brand Noonday Collection shares her story of starting the rapid-growing business that impacts over 4,500 artisans in vulnerable communities across the globe—and invites readers on a journey of transformation, challenging them to trade their comfort zones for a life of impact and adventure. In 2015, Inc. magazine recognized Noonday Collection as one of the fastest-growing companies in America. But years earlier, as Jessica Honegger stood at a pawn-shop counter in Austin, Texas, and handed over her grandmother's gold jewelry, her goal was much more personal: to fund the adoption of her Rwandan son, Jack, by selling artisan-made jewelry. This first step launched an unexpected side-hustle that would grow into Noonday Collection. Jessica embarked on this new journey and teamed up with her first artisan partner, Jalia, a Ugandan jewelry maker. She saw the meaningful impact Noonday brought to Jalia's community and knew it was the right move. Fear crept into Jessica's heart as she realized her success, or failure, meant the same for Jalia. But refusing to let fear hinder her goals, Jessica found the necessary (if imperfect) courage she needed along the way--the courage to leave comfort and embrace a life of risk and impact. Discover Your Imperfect Courage In Imperfect Courage, Jessica takes you by the hand and invites you to trade your comfort zone for a life of impact and meaning. • First, she invites you to draw a circle of compassion around yourself and leads you through some soul-searching aimed at setting you free from shame. • Next, she challenges all of us to come together, dare to be vulnerable with one another, and commit to building a culture of collaboration. • Finally, Jessica calls on you to broaden your circle of compassion to embrace the entire globe--and to bring your beautifully imperfect courage to a world that needs you.
