Book Synopsis What Josephine Saw by : Kimberly Hart
Download or read book What Josephine Saw written by Kimberly Hart and published by Koc University Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born in 1919, Josephine Powell visited Turkey for the first time in 1955 to photograph Byzantine mosaics. She then set out on her first comprehensive trip around Turkey, being the first foreigner to be given permission to drive across the country after the foundation of the Republic. In those years she became interested in Turkish flat-woven textiles. She set out to work with the Turkish nomads themselves, gathering information about their handicraft - what purpose the objects served, why they were made, and how they were created. She began amassing Anatolian kilims, sacks, bands and related artifacts in a collection that reflects the role and importance of weaving in rural Anatolia. She also played a major role in the revival of natural dyes in Turkey and in establishing the DOBAG (Dogal Boya Arastirma Gelistirme, Research and Development of Natural Dyes) Project, the first Turkish women's cooperative that makes carpets using authentic designs and natural dyes. By the time of her death in 2007, Josephine had a significant collection and photographic archives. Her collections of Anatolian flat-weaves and ethnographic objects, as well as copies of all her images were donated to the Vehbi Koç Foundation in Istanbul in 2006. In this book, which is published within the framework of What Josephine Saw exhibition organized by Koç University Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations on 11 June - 21 October 2012, you will find a selection of photographs of the Anatolia that Josephine saw, as well as the memorial essays of her colleagues, friends, and travel companions.

Download or read book Lady at the O.K. Corral written by Ann Kirschner and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2013-03-05 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lady at the O.K. Corral: The True Story of Josephine Marcus Earp by Ann Kirschner is the definitive biography of a Jewish girl from New York who won the heart of Wyatt Earp. For nearly fifty years, she was the common-law wife of Wyatt Earp: hero of the O.K. Corral and the most famous lawman of the Old West. Yet Josephine Sarah Marcus Earp has nearly been erased from Western lore. In this fascinating biography, Ann Kirschner, author of the acclaimed Sala's Gift, brings Josephine out of the shadows of history to tell her tale: a spirited and colorful tale of ambition, adventure, self-invention, and devotion. Reflective of America itself, her story brings us from the post–Civil War years to World War II, and from New York to the Arizona Territory to old Hollywood. In Lady at the O.K. Corral, you’ll learn how this aspiring actress and dancer—a flamboyant, curvaceous Jewish girl with a persistent New York accent—landed in Tombstone, Arizona, and sustained a lifelong partnership with Wyatt Earp, a man of uncommon charisma and complex heroism.

In a war that captured his brothers, Lucius undergoes a long overdue intervention without his knowledge and discovers weapons can manifest in various forms. During his assignment, hiding in Josephine's home with interdimensional camouflage, he develops a crush for the general's daughter. Without her knowledge, Josephine is calling the shots. Ignorance that once protected her wanes in the balance of dimensional laws the more she perceives of him. When the opened doorway is exposed, mind games of Lucius's enemies reach an entirely new level and forces him to make a decision about his secrecy. The shadows have finally found a key to their freedom, and they will break through. I'll speak this one time, but no more. The issue is with me and my enemies. However, ordinary people play a small part, like a stalk of wheat on the battlefield, a harvest worth fighting for. It's all around them, the war. They feel the war and the others. Sometimes there's thickness in the air, a lump with every swallow taken, a chill as they enter a room. They know something is there. Waiting. Watching.

Despite being constantly overlooked in the elite and cutthroat world of the Parisian ballet, she will do anything to prove that a Black girl can take center stage. To level the playing field, Laure ventures deep into the depths of the Catacombs and strikes a deal with a pulsating river of blood. The primordial power Laure gains promises influence and adoration, everything she’s dreamed of and worked toward. With retribution on her mind, she surpasses her bitter and privileged peers, leaving broken bodies behind her on her climb to stardom. But even as undeniable as she is, Laure is not the only monster around. And her vicious desires make her a perfect target for slaughter. As she descends into madness and the mystifying underworld beneath her, she is faced with the ultimate choice: continue to break herself for scraps of validation or succumb to the darkness that wants her exactly as she is—monstrous heart and all. That is, if the god-killer doesn’t catch her first. From debut author Jamison Shea comes I Feed Her to the Beast and the Beast Is Me, a twisted dark fantasy that lifts a veil on the institutions that profit on exclusion and the toll of giving everything to a world that will never love you back.
