Download or read book Fearless Pilgrim written by Faith Cook and published by EP BOOKS. This book was released on 2008 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this new and well-written biography Faith Cook relates John Bunyan to the turbulent times through which he lived, surviving two periods of imprisonment in Bedford prison, sustained by his faith, determined, as he himself wrote to live upon God that is invisible. Faith Cook avoids the temptation of merely regarding Bunyan as one of the great figures of English literature. That he certainly is. But he is so much more a physician of souls, much-loved pastor and powerful preacher of the gospel of grace. The authoress skillfully relates her subject to the political history of his times, in which nonconformists won a greater measure of freedom to worship according to their understanding of the Bible during the Cromwellian period, only to be restricted again after the Restoration of the monarchy in 1660.

Book excerpt: Presented here is the third edition of John Brown's definitive biography of the great English preacher and writer John Bunyan (1628-1688). Bunyan is best known for his allegory 'The Pilgrim's Progress' but wrote numerous other works including Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners. A tinker by trade, he was a popular preacher whose call to preach was recognized by his congregation. This was no formal recognition and upon the restoration of 1660, Bunyan was imprisoned when he refused to cease preaching without a license. A twelve-year imprisonment followed, during which Bunyan did much of his writing. During his later years Bunyan enjoyed immense influence, and his services were demanded in almost every part of England. He died August 31, 1688, in London.

Download or read book John Bunyan written by Kevin Belmonte and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2010-03-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christian Encounters, a series of biographies from Thomas Nelson Publishers, highlights important lives from all ages and areas of the Church. Some are familiar faces. Others are unexpected guests. But all, through their relationships, struggles, prayers, and desires, uniquely illuminate our shared experience. The author of The Pilgrim’s Progress, one of the most influential books in English literature, had little formal education. Born the son of a tinker, John Bunyan was expected to follow in his father’s footsteps. He was allowed to go to school for a few years and purchase a few books, but his apprenticeship in the family business took precedence. Bunyan experienced his first sorrow in adolescence, when both his mother and sister died. It wasn’t his last. Revolutions and wars were all around him, and he was jailed twice for preaching the Gospel. Yet amidst repeated imprisonments, civil war, and violent persecution, Bunyan crafted The Pilgrim’s Progress, a testament unlike any other to the triumph of the human spirit. His simple cadences transformed the language, and his memorable characters became familiar to millions. Bunyan became a public figure, a captivating speaker, and above all, a man known for his unrelenting trust in God.

This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from John Bunyan His Life Times and Work, Vol. 2 of 2 Then, again, that same year, the month he was arrested, Bunyan published a little book in Cate chetical form, entitled Instruction for the Igno rant. Its prefatory dedication runs thus To the Church of Christ in and about Bedford, walking in the Faith and Fellowship of the Gospel, your affec tionate brother and companion in the Kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, wisheth all grace and mercy by Jesus Christ. He goes on to say that though he has designed this treatise for public and common benefit, yet by reason of special bonds which the Lord hath laid upon me to you-ward, Icould do no less being driven from you in presence, not in ejection, but first present you with this little book. He signs himself, yours to serve you by my ministry when I can to your edification and consolation, John Bunyan. It is difficult to attach any other meaning to these words than that when he wrote them he was once more in prison. The book was probably finished before his arrest, and only the dedication written after he was in gaol. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
