Book excerpt: Annually sponsored by the Korea Institute of Information Security and Crypt- ogy (KIISC), the fourth International Conference on Information Security and Cryptology (ICISC2001) was held at the 63 Building in Seoul, Korea, Dec- ber 6–7, 2001. The 63 Building, consisting of 60 stories above the ground and 3 stories underground, stands soaring up into the sky on the island of Youido, the Manhattan of Korea, and ranks by far the tallest of all buildings in the country. The program committee received 102 submissions from 17 countries and regions (Australia, Belgium, China, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, The Netherlands, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, UK, and USA), of which 32 were selected for presentation in 8 sessions. All submissions were anonymously reviewed by at least 3 experts in the relevant areas. There was one invited talk by David Pointcheval (ENS, France) on “Practical Security in Public-Key Cryptography”. We are very grateful to all the program committee members who devoted much e?ort and valuable time to reading and selecting the papers. These p- ceedingscontainthe?nalversionofeachpaperrevisedaftertheconference.Since the revised versions were not checked by the program committee rigorously, the authors must bear full responsibility for the contents of their papers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guidebook presents 50 half-day and day walks in Mallorca's Serra de Tramuntana, the striking limestone range that stretches along the northwestern flank of the island. Whilst the region promises breathtaking scenery and some fantastic walks, there is also some potentially challenging terrain, making guidance when choosing, planning and walking the routes all the more valuable. As many involve steep ground, navigational challenge and hands-on scrambling, these routes are primarily geared towards those with some experience of mountain walking. Comprehensive route description is illustrated with 1:25,000 Alpina mapping and each walk includes a statistics box to aid route selection. Useful contacts are listed in the appendix. There is also background information on history, plants and wildlife, plus language notes in native Catalan and Castilian Spanish. The routes are spread across the Serra de Tramuntana, with characterful towns and villages such as Sóller, Deià, Fornalutx, Valldemossa and Pollença serving as potential bases for a walking holiday. Ranging from 5.5km to 24km, the carefully selected routes showcase the region's rugged limestone peaks, mountain and coastal vistas and rich mountain heritage manifested in numerous drystone constructions, charcoal-burning sites and irrigation systems. Highlights include the lush island of sa Dragonera and the dramatic gorge of Torrent de Pareis. The majority of walks are accessible by public transport and many can be linked, opening up further possibilities for exploration.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing out of a project to help the author deal with his own credulity, "Dont Pay for a Promise" is a treasure house of information distilled from hundreds of Government publications. These publications are constantly being revised and updated and the reader should consult them regularly for the latest facts. However, because each publication must stand on its own, there is a "patchwork" character to the material and finding answers for a particular situation can take time. By capturing the essence of these publications, John McHardy has created a powerful resource for anyone who has ever agonized over an offer that seems too good to be true. In 14 compact chapters, the book deals systematically with the diverse types and guises of consumer fraud, offering concrete advice on how to recognize and respond to each of them. The first chapter provides information common to all types of fraud and serves as a foundation for the rest of the book. The next eleven chapters then cover individual aspects of the subject. For example, Chapter 2 "Identity Theft" examines topics that range from simple theft to the less obvious hazards of automatic debit and electronic banking. A typical chapter begins with an outline of pertinent laws and regulations and continues with one or more sections on particular issues. For example, Chapter 3, arranges the broad subject of "Contests" into three separate sections. Within each section, the material is organized under a consistent set of paragraph headings. These include the "promise" (the scam or deceptive practice), warning signs that may distinguish it from a legitimate offer, and ways that consumers can protect themselves or at least minimize their losses. The book concludes with two chapters of reference material, Chapter 13 detailing the many organizations that can offer help in the fight against fraud and Chapter 14 containing the full text of FTC Telemarketing Sales Rule.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This visual biography explores the legendary career of motorcycle racer Valentino Rossi, including his victories, rivalries, and racing class transitions across Aprilia, Honda, Yamaha, and Ducati race bikes. From the day he was born into a racing family on February 16, 1979, Valentino Rossi seemed destined for racing greatness. Racing karts and minimotos as a child, he progressed to international motorcycle competition in 1996, riding for Aprilia in the 125cc class; Rossi won his first World Championship the following year. Advancing to MotoGP’s premier class in 2000, Rossi would go on to win nine Grand Prix World Championships and score 89 victories in 371 starts. In this richly illustrated review of the most successful MotoGP career of the twenty-first century, relive Rossi’s incredible battles against the likes of Max Biaggi, Sete Gibernau, Dani Pedrosa, and more and how they inspired three films (Faster, Fastest, and Hitting the Apex). Long-time motojournalist and author Michael Scott was at the circuit for nearly all of Rossi's 432 grand prix races and every one of his 115 grand prix wins. Rossi’s incredible charm, wit, and irreverence earned him a huge fan base and his indomitable will to win cemented his racing legend. Valentino Rossi: Life of a Legend recounts it all.
