Book excerpt: Christians know that God loves them, but can easily feel that he is perpetually disappointed and frustrated, maybe even close to giving up on them. As a result, they focus a lot—and rightly so—on what Jesus has done to appease God’s wrath for sin. But how does Jesus Christ actually feel about his people amid all their sins and failures? This book draws us to Matthew 11, where Jesus describes himself as “gentle and lowly in heart,” longing for his people to find rest in him. The gospel flows from God’s deepest heart for his people, a heart of tender love for the sinful and suffering. These chapters take readers into the depths of Christ’s very heart for sinners, diving deep into Bible passages that speak of who Christ is and encouraging readers with the affections of Christ for his people. His longing heart for sinners comforts and sustains readers in their up-and-down lives.

The church celebrates these two events in what is traditionally referred to as the Lord’s Supper. It is the custom in some Christian traditions to have a brief meditation related to the Lord’s Supper immediately prior to participation. These may be given by the pastor or by a layperson who presides over the ceremony. This book is a series of meditations delivered prior to the celebration of the Lord’s Supper. It is our hope that they will be useful for laypeople who perform this service. They may also be helpful as private meditations on the central events of the Christian faith.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gospel of John (‘the Fourth Gospel’) is presented through the symbol of a diamond. With the motif of light dominant from the opening Prologue culminating in the saying of Jesus, ‘I am the light of the world’, the symbol of diamond draws on this to indicate the constant inter-flow of its method and style. Like light falling on a diamond and flowing from facet to facet the themes of the Gospel of John are highlighted and held together. This creates a dynamic which is circular, drawing those who read and pray the Gospel into a deeper understanding of its spirituality and theology. After an Introduction ten themes are chosen. These are Light, Life, Truth, Home, Joy, Peace, Freedom, Glory, Mission, Love. Together they represent the revelation that the evangelist elucidates, expressing the relationship that God the Father wishes to have with people through His Son in the Holy Spirit. While drawing on the commentaries of scripture scholars and writings of theologians to interpret the import of particular passages and verses, this is a study of the so-called ‘Spiritual Gospel’, an appellation that has been attributed from the time of the Alexandrian school in the third century. Called to believe in Jesus the Word made flesh and come to belong to the Father through the bond of love borne by the Holy Spirit the spirituality of the Gospel of John is an invitation to intimacy with the triune God which issues in (as indicated by words of the Second Vatican Council) bringing ‘forth fruit in charity for the life of the world’. The book concludes with A Prayer to Jesus of John’s Gospel which gathers together the ten themes that have been the focus (facets) of the study.

Many Christians believe that when they die they will enjoy everlasting life in heaven with God and the angels and their loved ones--but that’s not what the Bible says! Moreover, most Christians have no idea that the Lord Jesus Christ has empowered them with specific spiritual abilities—gifts of grace—to enable them to serve Him and one another in love, and that how well they learn to function in their spiritual gifts in this lifetime will determine who they will be and what they will be doing in Paradise!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Christians wonder what the Christian life is all about. They hear about “grace” but struggle to rightly understand it, much less live it. They are taught about God, but their vision of him does not always reflect the full biblical portrait of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. When this happens Christians struggle to know the ways of God and how to joyfully participate in his work. The God Who Gives provides a compelling vision of Christian faith and life, helping readers discover the uniqueness of the gospel—that God's kingdom comes not by taking, but by giving—God gives Himself! We are invited into the fullness of life that can only come through the gift of God’s divine generosity. Taking readers through the grand biblical narrative of creation, fall, redemption, and kingdom author Kelly M. Kapic helps us see our story in and through the story of Scripture. He shows that everything belongs to God, and yet because of our turning and taking from him we experience a kind of suffocating bondage to sin. So how does God reclaim us? God gives again. The God who gave in creation restores by recreating us through his Son and by his Spirit. The kingdom of God is an overflowing measure of divine generosity that we are invited to participate in. The God Who Gives calls readers to discover that the whole Christian story is founded upon the Triune God’s self-giving and our belonging to God. Fully embracing this truth changes how we view God, ourselves, and the world. Living in God's gifts, we are freed to give ourselves and truly experience life.

This book was released on 2005-10-13 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of, "FACETING HISTORY: CUTTING DIAMONDS AND COLORED STONES" has for a long time had a deep interest in learning how the early faceters (cutters) of diamonds and colored gemstones were able to complete their work. What methods did they use? What equipment did they have to make success possible? How soon did they discover how to complete the many phases necessary to accomplish their work? How did the equipment and methods differ between fashioning diamonds and faceting colored stones? These are just a few of the questions that the author wanted to find the answers for. In looking for answers to these and other questions, the author found that there were bits and pieces of information available in many previous books, but there was not a good book available that would answer most of his questions. Upon hearing the author ́s remarks about this fact, one of the librarians at the wonderful library located at the Gemological Institute of America ́s Carlsbad campus said that if such a book was not available, "maybe you should write the book!" Well, the author had been thinking of doing just that, but the remark caused the author to see the light and agree to get started on the project. Little did he know then that the project would require many months of eight hour days over seven day weeks to get the book completed. He decided to write a book that would answer these and other related questions that he had. The thought also occurred to him that such a book would be a valuable volume to be placed in libraries of individual faceters around the world. He realized that such a book would also be of great value to anyone who works behind a Jewelry store counter. A successful sales person is one who is knowledgeable about the products that they are selling. A book of faceting information would be extremely valuable if read and re-read from time to time. A customer in the Jewelry store will no doubt be favorably impressed by a sales presentation that is made with the use of interesting and informative information about diamonds and the various colored gemstones. The customer will be convinced that the sales person knows about what they are talking. The author has spent nearly three years on the project of researching the GIA library and other libraries, along with the extensive personal library of gemstone related books that he personally possesses. Many conflicting reports were noted in his study. He has made the statements in his book reflect the most commonly accepted opinions, of the most respected authors ́ works that he has found in his research. History is only obtainable from the earlier works of other authors. We cannot go back to the long past centuries ourselves, to see first hand what really happened and when it happened. A study of faceting history requires making the best choices of the information that is available. This completed book answers questions as to why the fashioning of diamonds was/is so different from the faceting of colored gemstones. The book compares the needed equipment and the methods that have brought the greatest successes. In addition, a great deal of other information connected to faceting is included. There are seven chapters in the book and there are over 125 photographs of the early equipment and methods that were used. The photographs show the faceters, the workroom conditions, and the tools and equipment that they used to complete beautiful and lasting gemstones. The book chapters are titled: An Introduction to Faceting, Early Man ́s Stone Appreciation, Diamond Fashioning Procedure and Equipment, Colored Stone Faceting Procedure and Equipment, The Evolution of Cut Designs, Famous and Historic Gemstones, Sources of Diamond and Colored Stone Rough, and lastly, Advances in Faceting Over the Past One Hundred Years. By books end, the reader will be well informed as to what is r
