Book excerpt: The twice-daily Tamid (standing) sacrifice was the focus of religious life from the time God established a covenant with the Israelites at Mount Sinai until the Jerusalem Temple's destruction in AD 70. No other sacrifice was to take precedence over the Tamid, and it was to continue as the centerpiece of worship for as long as the Sinai Covenant endured. However, the Tamid served as more than the means of atonement and covenant sanctification for Israel. It was also a sign of hope for the future sanctification for all peoples of the earth. Jesus of Nazareth is the fulfillment of that hope. The Passion of the Christ reveals the mystery of the single sacrifice of the two Tamid lambs-He who is fully man and God. Jesus became the true Tamid Lamb that all past Tamid lambs prefigured. Just as the unblemished Tamid lamb was the continual sacrifice presented in the Jerusalem Temple, Jesus is the holy unblemished Lamb "standing" before the throne of God in the heavenly Temple (Revelation 5:6). His sacrifice is continually made present in Heaven and on earthly altars during the Eucharistic celebration of the Mass.

Book excerpt: This book is written in line with apostolic orthodoxy of Scripture. It gives clear theological thought why only Jesus Christ qualifies as our Passover Lamb, showing how the sacrificial death of Christ negates the effect of the Fall of Adam and Eve. The book reviews the sacrifices of Old Testament patriarchs, priests, prophets and kings. It narrates in detail the origin and events of the Jewish Passover, which also foreshadows the New Testament Passover instituted by Christ. In this book you will understand clearly why other sacrifices by mankind are not enough for sin atonement. The book brings to light why believers should share in the elements of the covenant at the Holy Communion Table with reverence and hearts of gratitude to God for the finished work of Christ on the cross. Christ Our Passover Lamb is a must for anyone who wants to know more why grace and truth came by Jesus Christ, giving you an insight into the mystery of His sacrifice hidden in the mind of God before the world began. This book will certainly bless and inspire you to share in the marriage supper of the Lamb with other saints in His coming Kingdom.

Book excerpt: In this exciting book Thomas Nash refutes the common charge that the Mass is "unbiblical" in a resoundingly biblical fashion. From the Garden of Eden to Christ's Ascension, the biblical roots of the Mass go much deeper than the Last Supper and Christ's Passion. Old Testament sacrifices like Abel's, Abraham's and the Passover all prefigure and are fulfilled by Christ's Sacrifice, which is made present in the Sacrifice of the Mass. What began on the Cross culminated in everlasting glory when Jesus entered "once for all" into the heavenly holy of holies, as the Letter to the Hebrews provides. In a time when the Catholic Church is under attack from within and without, Worthy is the Lamb reminds the faithful that the Mass is, as Vatican II affirms, "the source and summit of the whole Christian life." This book will transform your understanding of and participation in the Mass. "It's high time Catholics discovered the Old Testament roots of our Church's worship and priesthood. The New Covenant did not abolish the Old, but fulfilled and transformed it. Our Lord wants us to experience the reality of the Mass in all its fullness, and that's what Tom Nash wants you to know." -Scott Hahn, Ph.D. Thomas Nash is a Theology Advisor at the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sometimes questions are asked regarding the value of a detailed study of the sanctuary. Why, when we have the Christ of the New Testament, do we need to go back into the Old? I find no problem in the way of such a study. You have seen the beautiful illustrations in the books that are sold in Christian bookstores. Do you think that the artist painted these from memory? Why no! He used many models. Today these models, living and inanimate, need not sit for long hours before the artist. He simply takes a colored transparencies of the sections of his picture by posing the model for a few minutes. When he is ready to paint, he works these colored segments together, studying each part in detail. It is for a similar reason that God has given us the details of the sanctuary. We should study each part minutely. Only then will we be able to see Christ in His fullness. We can comprehend only one point at a time. Jesus is the Sacrifice. He is also the preist. He is the Shekinah, and He is also the veil. He is every whit! In order to discern the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, the Mediator of mankind, the Saviour of the race, the Redeemer--King, we must synthesize all aspects of the tabernacle. While we may spend time on one part of His ministry, we should keep in mind that He is many-sided. It is only thus that we will come to understand the One Who is altogether lovely, the chiefest among ten thousand, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first study to develop a theory of sacrifice and then apply it to the sources of early Judaism as well as Jesus's activity. Ritual sacrifice was one of the greatest concerns and most widely shared activities among Jews prior to the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem. There is therefore a pressing need for systematic understanding of sacrifice, both as an element of Judaic religion and a context for Jesus's activity. The Temple of Jesus provides a theoretical model of sacrifice and develops that model to analyze classic texts from the Hebrew Scriptures and the Jewish War of Josephus, and it argues that Jesus can only be appreciated as driven by a program to enact his own conception of Israel's purity in sacrifice in order to occasion the disclosure of God's kingdom. Chilton contends that sacrifice is construed as a fundamentally social, "pre-civilized" activity involving pragmata as defined as pure, an emotional affect for participants, and an ideology according to which sacrifice occasions a change of life in the community, thus rejecting current anthropological studies that attempt to explain sacrifice genetically. He shows that texts from Ezekiel, Leviticus, and Deuteronomy share a conviction that the covenant with Israel ensures the validity of sacrifice, even as they define purity in various ways and emphasize differing affects of sacrifice. Finally, Chilton provides a new approach to Jesus, comparing and contrasting his occupation of the Temple with the cultic activities of prominent Pharisees of his period.

Book excerpt: God sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for the world. For all eternity, the sacrifice of Jesus will be honored, revered, proclaimed and infinitely more. Only one faith has a Savior Who died for the world. Only one God loves the world so much that He gave His only Son and sent Him to the earth to save and redeem mankind. God came to earth as a man and justified Himself to the world.Yet, He was hated, betrayed, condemned, and rejected. He was beaten again and again, scourged, whipped, and flogged to the point of death. He was brutally whipped 39 times. The instrument had thongs with metal hooks and pottery shards, designed to tear the flesh to the bone.A crown of thorns was placed on His head. His head was beaten with a heavy wooden stick. He was mocked, ridiculed, spit upon, and slapped on the face.He was insulted, taunted, reviled, and blasphemed. They drove nails through his hands and feet.He was crucified on a cross for six hours, one of the most brutal forms of execution. He was killed. He was executed.Jesus shed His blood seven times and was the perfect sacrifice. He rose from the dead, ascended to heaven and lives forevermore.Jesus Christ is the Lamb who was slain from the foundation of the world.Whosoever relies on Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. Receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. He is the only way to life and heaven.

Book excerpt: God has fine-tuned our bodies in order to optimize our overall health, and we can take advantage of that by eating in the same patterns as demonstrated in scripture. Mystery of the Cure shows how the intermittent fasting eating pattern has unknowingly followed the exact eating patterns that were described in the Bible more than three thousand years ago. The overall health benefits, and the resulting weight loss for those who choose to adopt these time-restricted eating patterns cannot be denied. Author Ronald J. Covington outlines how an innovative American Civil War doctor, way ahead of his time, made a discovery that a brilliant doctor at Johns Hopkins University would prove to be true 120 years later. Full of uplifting personal narratives and helpful advice, this guide uses scientific facts and biblical commentary to show how God created us to optimize our health by eating in the intermittent fasting patterns as demonstrated in the Bible.

Book excerpt: “Christ’s one sacrifice and His re-presentation of it in the Mass is a profound mystery.” To help us understand this, Thomas Nash gives a detailed outline of the Jewish understanding of sacrifice and how the New Testament authors would have understood Christ’s death and its relationship with Eucharist. In the Mass the priest “remembers” the sacrifice of His death and participates in the eternal offering of Christ’s death. Nash explains, however, that the Jewish understanding of remembrance was more than just a commemoration: “when the Hebrews remembered an event, God enabled that event to transcend time and impact the present.”
