Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twenty-five years ago, serial killer Paul Denyer terrorised the bayside suburb of Frankston.Twenty-five years later, the trauma of his seven-week killing spree still haunts the community. The spate of murders in 1993 touched many more lives than just the three victims. All of Melbourne was gripped with fear, as Frankston and surrounding suburbs were flooded with police hunting the serial killer of three young women. It began on June 11 when Elizabeth Stevens was murdered on her way home from the library. On July 8, Debbie Fream who'd left her 12-day-old baby with a friend while she dashed out for milk, was abducted and killed. Three weeks later, Year 12 student, Natalie Russell, was brutally murdered on her way home from school. When Paul Denyer, an odd young man, was arrested the day after Natalie's body was found, the police and public were shocked by his lack of emotion. Denyer, who was only 21-years-old, spoke of the three young women with contempt as he described their final moments. Their deaths had simply fuelled his bloodlust. Eleven years later, just as the public's memory of the Frankston murders began to fade, convicted serial killer, Paul Denyer, made front-page news with his quest to become a woman. The Frankston Murders: 25 years on details the shocking crimes and explores the lingering effects of what Denyer did. Now 25-years-old, Debbie Fream's son Jake speaks for the first time about the loss of his mother. And Carmel and Brian Russell share their dream for Denyer's ongoing incarceration, as the killer of their child will be eligible to apply for parole for the first time in 2023.

Download or read book Fear No One written by Neil Van Seters and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010-04-27 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1944 Jake Van Seters was arrested by the German authorities in the Netherlands. He received no trial, saw no judge, and was never informed of the reason for his arrest. He was simply locked away. After being transferred though a number of local concentration camps he was sent to a slave labour camp in eastern Germany to help fuel the German war machine. He was forced to work seven days a week in subhuman conditions. Like the other prisoners around him he received little food and no proper health care. While many prisoners perished in the camps, Jake survived. Fear No One is both the chronicle of his suffering and the story of his defiance. Gaining strength from his unwavering faith in God, Jake was unafraid of his captors and unwilling to simply be a victim. He fought against the system throughout his captivity and eventfully managed to escape to freedom. Now that 65 years have passed, Jake has had time to reflect on his experiences and share some of the lessons he learned with future generations.
Book Synopsis General Jacob Devers by : John A. Adams
Download or read book General Jacob Devers written by John A. Adams and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2015-02-18 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A “solid and informative” biography of one of the overlooked heroes of the Second World War (Wall Street Journal). Of the leaders of the American Army in World War II, Jacob Devers is undoubtedly the “forgotten four-star.” Plucked from relative obscurity in the Canal Zone, Devers was one of four generals selected by General of the Army George Marshall in 1941 to assist him in preparing the Army for war. He quickly became known in Army circles for his “can do” attitude and remarkable ability to cut through red tape. Among other duties, he was instrumental in transforming Ft. Bragg, then a small Army post, into a major training facility. As head of the armored force, Devers contributed to the development of a faster, more heavily armored tank, equipped with a higher velocity gun that could stand up to the more powerful German tanks, and helped to turn American armor into an effective fighting force. In spring 1943, Devers replaced Dwight Eisenhower as commander of the European Theater of Operations, then was given command of the 6th Army Group that invaded the south of France and fought its way through France and Germany to the Austrian border. In the European campaign to defeat Hitler, Eisenhower had three subordinate army group commanders: British Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery, Omar S. Bradley, and Jacob Devers. The first two are well-known; here the third receives the attention he properly deserves.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When you’re eleven years old, it’s tough convincing people to take you seriously. When you’re an eleven-year-old savant, It’s exponentially more difficult. Since Jake’s inability to connect with others had made him somewhat of an outcast for most of his life, he’d learned to divert his energy into his artistic talent, creating mesmerizing images capable of literally paralyzing anyone who should gaze upon them. For Jake, it was normal to see and perceive things others were incapable of recognizing, but even he was caught completely off-guard when confronted with the reality that dragons not only exist, but that one of them was destined to become his very own. As the bond between Jake and his dragon evolves and deepens, it becomes increasingly difficult to explain the uncanny occurrences which seem to accompany them, all while keeping the very existence of his dragon a secret. While most people accept the logical explanations for the unusual activities surrounding them, dragoneers are not most people and they are dead set on capturing Jake’s dragon.

Download or read book Palaces and Castles written by Hoot Bagilli and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-03-14 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While this is a novel--a work of fiction--it is also a glimpse into part of the world of the intelligence operations carried out by the United States of America. It is not the stuff of James Bond or Jack Ryan. It is the stuff of real people that work their jobs, often with long hours, sometimes with their lives at risk, almost always without any public recognition. It is usually a satisfying job, but one still rife with bureaucracy and the normal government politics.
