Jameson Havercamp and Xander Kinnson are thrust into the middle of a world-ending event and have to scramble to save the world - and themselves. Along the way, they peel back the layers of the onion to discover secrets wrapped in secrets that will eventually take them to where it all started - and may provide the key to saving Oberon and everyone on it. SKYTHANE Jameson Havercamp, a psych from a conservative religious colony, has come to Oberon—unique among the Common Worlds—in search of a rare substance called pith. He’s guided through the wilds on his quest by Xander Kinnson, a handsome, cocky skythane with a troubled past. Neither knows that Oberon is facing imminent destruction. Book Synopsis Louisiana Coushatta Basket Makers by : Linda Langley
Download or read book Louisiana Coushatta Basket Makers written by Linda Langley and published by LSU Press. This book was released on 2021-04-21 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Louisiana Coushatta Basket Makers brings together oral histories, tribal records, archival materials, and archaeological evidence to explore the fascinating history of the Coushatta Tribe’s famed basket weavers. After settling at their present location near the town of Elton, Louisiana, in the 1880s, the Coushatta (Koasati) tribe developed a basket industry that bolstered the local tribal economy and became the basis for generating tourism and political mobilization. The baskets represented a material culture that distinguished the Coushattas as Indigenous people within an ethnically and racially diverse region. Tribal leaders serving as diplomats also used baskets as strategic gifts as they built political and economic allegiances throughout the twentieth century, thereby securing the Coushattas’ future. Behind all these efforts were the basket makers themselves. Although a few Coushatta men assisted in the production of baskets, it was mostly women who put in the long hours to gather and process the materials, then skillfully stitch them together to produce treasures of all shapes and sizes. The art of basket making exists within a broader framework of Coushatta traditional teachings and educational practices that have persisted to the present. As they tell the story of Coushatta basket makers, Linda P. Langley and Denise E. Bates provide a better understanding of the tribe’s culture and values. The weavers’ own “language of baskets” shapes this narrative, which depicts how the tribe survived repeated hardships as weavers responded on their own terms to market demands. The work of Coushatta basket makers represents the perseverance of traditional knowledge in the form of unique and carefully crafted fine art that continues to garner greater recognition and appreciation with every successive generation.

Download or read book Secure Networking - CQRE (Secure) '99 written by Rainer Baumgart and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-07-31 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The CQRE [Secure] conference provides a new international forum giving a close-up view on information security in the context of rapidly evolving economic processes. The unprecedented reliance on computer technology has transformed the previous technical side-issue "information security" to a management problem requiring decisions of strategic importance. Thus one of the main goals of the conference is to provide a platform for both technical specialists as well as decision makers from government, industry, commercial, and academic communities. The target of CQRE is to promote and stimulate dialogue between managers and experts, which seems to be necessary for providing secure information systems in the next millennium. Therefore CQRE consists of two parts: Part I mainly focuses on strategic issues of information security, while the focus of Part II is more technical in nature. This volume of the conference proceedings consists of the reviewed and invited contributions of the second part. The program committee considered 46 papers and selected only 15 for full presentation. For the participants’ convenience we have also included the notes of the invited lectures and short workshop talks in this volume.

Book Synopsis Saudi Arabian Dialects by : Theodore Prochazka
Download or read book Saudi Arabian Dialects written by Theodore Prochazka and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-07-04 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1988. Arabic linguistics is developing into an increasingly interesting and important subject within the broad field of modern linguistic studies. The scope of this discipline is wide and varied, covering diverse areas such as Arabic phonetics, phonology and grammar, Arabic psycholinguistics, Arabic dialectology, Arabic lexicography and lexicology, Arabic sociolinguistics, the teaching and learning of Arabic as a first, second, or foreign language. The present work by Prochazka is the first general survey of the dialects of Saudi Arabia covering a wide range from north to south recording of linguistic variation in that vast region. It is particularly strong in covering a number of localities in the southwest and it is the first linguistic study of the dialect of the Ruwala bedouin of the northern desert. The work reveals a major division into two areal blocks: (i) the southern Hijaz and Tihamah and (ii) the Najdi and Eastern Arabian dialects.
