This book was released on 2012-03-30 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrogen replacement reactions play an outstanding part in organic chemistry. They include such industrially important processes as halogenation, nitration, sulfona tion, alkylation, and direct amination and metallation of organic substances. It is no accident that the data obtained in the investigation of these reactions have been used extensivel y in the solution of a series of fundamental problems in theoretical organ ic chemistry and this tendency still exists. Isotopic exchanges of hydrogen also belong to this group of chemical conversions. They have attracted considerable attention as they are the simplest and, to some ex tent, models of hydrogen replacement reactions, which are convenient for elucidating the mechanism of hydrogen replacement and the effects of interaction between atoms in organic molecules. The mechanisms of hydrogen replacement reactions are examined in this mono graph and the most space is allocated to hydrogen isotope exchanges. The mechan isms of all the given reactions are interpreted from the point of view of the acid base properties of the reagents. In this connection, a large section of the book is de voted to a thorough substantiation of the thesis that hydrocarbons participating in the given reactions act as acids or bases. Problems of acid-base catalysis and the mech anism of acid -base interaction are also discussed. Thus, a considerable part of the book is concerned with problems of the theory of acids and bases.

Book Synopsis Separation of Isotopes of Biogenic Elements in Two-phase Systems by : Boris Mikhailovich Andreev
Download or read book Separation of Isotopes of Biogenic Elements in Two-phase Systems written by Boris Mikhailovich Andreev and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-12-01 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Separation of Isotopes of Biogenic Elements provides a detailed overview of this area of research covering all aspects from the value of isotope effects to their practical use (equilibrium single-stage isotope effect - kinetics and mass transfer – multiplication of the single-stage isotope separation factor - technological peculiarity of processes) with the purpose of extraction from the natural mixture of the enriched and highly concentrated isotopes. In contrast to traditional books on the theory of isotope separation, the theoretical part of the book describes separation in two-phase processes in counter-flow columns. The experimental part of the book presents systematic analysis of specialists in the field of isotope separation in counter-flow columns. This book will be of interest to scientists, engineers and technical workers engaged in isotope separation processes and isotope application in nuclear physics, medicine, agro-chemistry, biology and other areas. This book may also be used in teaching theory and practical aspects in courses on physical chemistry and Isotope separation of light elements by physicochemical methods.* summarises current state of isotope research, especially biogenic elements* covering all aspects from the value of isotope effects to their practical use* of interest to scientists, engineers and technical workers engaged in isotope separation processes and isotope application

Download or read book Isotope Tracers in Catchment Hydrology written by C. Kendall and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 870 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents a new "earth systems" approach to catchments that encompasses the physical and biogeochemical interactions that control the hydrology and biogeochemistry of the system. The text provides a comprehensive treatment of the fundamentals of catchment hydrology, principles of isotope geochemistry, and the isotope variability in the hydrologic cycle -- but the main focus of the book is on case studies in isotope hydrology and isotope geochemistry that explore the applications of isotope techniques for investigating modern environmental problems. Isotope Tracers in Catchment Hydrology is the first synthesis of physical hydrology and isotope geochemistry with catchment focus, and is a valuable reference for professionals and students alike in the fields of hydrology, hydrochemistry, and environmental science. This important interdisciplinary text provides extensive guidelines for the application of isotope techniques for all investigatores facing the challenge of protecting precious water, soil, and ecological resources from the ever-increasing problems associated with population growth and environmental change, including those from urban development and agricultural land uses.
