Book Synopsis Is Godly Life Practical? by : Isaiah Timothy
Download or read book Is Godly Life Practical? written by Isaiah Timothy and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2015-02-26 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is it really possible to live a godly life? This book considers the most imposing query of many young Christians. Jesus Christ, in His Sermon on the Mount, emphasized the necessity of a holy or nobler life than that of the sanctimonious people. He said, Except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter in to the kingdom of heaven. Moreover, Jesus said, Be ye perfect even as your father is perfect. Any inquisitive person may wonder, Is it possible to live a life of such perfection as God is demanding? Youth and the young in Christ may wonder if such godly life, as necessitated by Christ, is a reality. Many people, though outwardly appearing to be still, may be struggling with contradiction inwardly. Some might have even come to the conclusion that godly life is humanly impossible. Most appallingly, some may even be thinking that all believers in Jesus Christ are hypocrites. This book demonstrates, through the important truths from the Holy Bible, that godly living is a reality, and it is possible even in these days to live a godly life.
Book Synopsis The Expulsive Power of a New Affection by : Thomas Chalmers
Download or read book The Expulsive Power of a New Affection written by Thomas Chalmers and published by Gideon House Books. This book was released on 2015-06-17 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” — 1 John 2:15 Those who struggle with habitual sin are keenly aware of the despair and fatigue that comes from trying harder and harder to control the desire to do what is wrong in the eyes of God. For this person, there be times of limited success in overcoming sin, but eventually he/she falls back again into unhealthy patterns. In "The Expulsive Power of a New Affection", Thomas Chalmers argues that no matter how hard we may try, we’ll never overcome habitual sin in our lives unless we switch our affections from the world to Jesus Christ. Thankfully Christ loved us first and is more than willing to set us free if we’d only realize the true Gospel power that we can all have in our lives today.

Book excerpt: "Rules of a Godly Life" is a popular Pietist devotional source for the Amish. Comprised of 47 proverbs, this text was originally written in the early 18th century by a non-Amish author. The proverbs are intended to guide the Amish on how to center their daily life on God through their everyday thoughts, words, and deeds. This includes what one's mind should focus on when waking up and going to sleep, and how to conduct yourself when interacting with others during the day, all in order to maintain God's focus in all that you do and live in accordance to the Bible.Despite its title, "Rules of a Godly Life" does not actually detail Amish rules, which are known as the Ordnung. The Ordnung vary from community to community, district to district, by each individual group of Amish, and they specify prohibitions and restrictions on modern technology, job options for Amish men and guidelines for everyday living such as dress codes and how to interact with non-Amish people. When an Amish person is baptized, they are promising to uphold these rules of their church and to never break from them. The "Rules of a Godly Life," on the other hand, are considered more of an annex to the Bible -- an inspirational book to help guide the way to a more fulfilling life.

I’m 54 years old; how can my husband still be attracted to me? Why did God make men and women so different? This audaciously bold study combines the psychological expertise of Dr Juli Slattery, formerly of Focus on the Family, along with moving stories from trusted Bible teacher and best-selling author Linda Dillow. The groups who have already done this study have seen their marriages come alive, whether they’ve been married four months or forty years; be next! PLUS! Book Synopsis Life with God by : Richard J. Foster
Download or read book Life with God written by Richard J. Foster and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2010-05-04 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Too often, our study of the Bible focuses on searching for specific information or some formula that will solve our pressing needs of the moment. But what if we approached the Bible differently, and instead of transforming the text to meet our needs, allowed it to transform us? That's exactly the idea behind Life with God, Richard J. Foster's much-anticipated book on the Bible. Foster, bestselling author of Celebration of Discipline and general editor of The RenovarÉ Spiritual Formation Bible, claims that God has superintended the writing of Scripture so that it serves as the most reliable guide for Christian spiritual formation. According to Foster, the Bible is all about human life "with God." As we read Scripture, we should consider how exactly God is with us in each story and allow ourselves to be spiritually transformed. By opening our whole selves—mind, body, spirit, thoughts, behavior, and will—to the page before us, we begin to grasp all the Bible has to teach about prayer, obedience, compassion, virtue, and grace and apply it to our everyday lives to achieve a deeper relationship with God. With a wealth of examples and simple yet crucial insights, Life with God is an indispensable guide to approaching the Bible through the lens of Christian spiritual formation, revealing that reading the Bible for interior transformation is a far different endeavor than reading the Bible for historical knowledge, literary appreciation, or religious instruction.
Book Synopsis A Habit Called Faith by : Jen Pollock Michel
Download or read book A Habit Called Faith written by Jen Pollock Michel and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2021-02-16 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today's neurological research has placed habit at the center of human behavior; we are what we do repetitively. When we want to add something to our life, whether it's exercise, prayer, or just getting up earlier in the morning, we know that we must turn an activity into a habit through repetition or it just won't stick. What would happen if we applied the same kind of daily dedication to faith? Could faith become a habit, a given--automatic? With vulnerable storytelling and insightful readings of both Old and New Testament passages, Jen Pollock Michel invites the convinced and the curious into a 40-day Bible reading experience. Vividly translating ancient truths for a secular age, Michel highlights how the biblical text invites us to see, know, live, love, and obey. The daily reflection questions and weekly discussion guides invite both individuals and groups, believers and doubters alike, to explore how faith, even faith as small as a mustard seed, might grow into a life-defining habit.
