Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I decided to make this separate book of maps to accompany ‘Intrepid Dudettes of the Inca Empire’, because readers might want to refer to them at several points while reading, so I thought it could be useful to have them in a different file. The book refers to the maps by number (e.g. Map 2) at points when you might want to take a look at them. There are maps of countries, the empire itself and more detailed maps of specific parts of countries. Also, I love maps. #MapsForTheWin!

Book Synopsis Contarhuacho, a biography by : Helen Pugh
Download or read book Contarhuacho, a biography written by Helen Pugh and published by Helen Pugh. This book was released on with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You may have heard of the Inca emperor Huayna Capac but probably not Contarhuacho (or Contarguacho), one of his many secondary wives. Born in Tocash in the province of Huaylas, Peru, in about 1500, Contarhuacho was a curaca or female cacique of great importance in her own right who played a significant role both before and after the Spanish Conquest. This short biography is a taster for a book I am planning entitled, ‘Biographies of Inca Women’. I would love to receive feedback on whether a book of that sort would be of interest to you and if so, which Inca women you would like me to include.
Book Synopsis Unsung Women in Somerset by : Helen Pugh
Download or read book Unsung Women in Somerset written by Helen Pugh and published by Helen Pugh. This book was released on 2023-11-20 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unsung Women in Somerset is a book of real-life and legendary women who lived, loved, worked and struggled in Somerset. From pre-Roman to modern times, we meet women with courage, kindness, innovation and even some who smashed the rules! Through 23 chapters, we meet most women through a short story, followed by historical notes about the woman and a chapter bibliography that shows the meticulous research that has gone into the book. Most chapters also include a Quick Tribute section that briefly mentions other interesting women from the same century. Meet the woman who had two funerals. Meet the African princess who survived and thrived despite the odds. Meet the woman who voted... before it was legal. Meet the openly gay artists whose generosity touched their neighbours' hearts. Meet the queens and saints and "witches" and workers and much more! These are the unsung women of our county. This is the history of Somerset like never before.
Download or read book Kuartam written by Helen Pugh and published by Helen Pugh. This book was released on with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the province of Morona-Santiago, around the city of Macas, a legend has always been told about the dangers of behaving disrespectfully towards nature. It is a legend that comes from the Shuar people, who live in the jungle in the eastern Ecuadorian Amazon. Generally speaking, they are brave and proud of their traditions and of the fact that they are one of a handful of indigenous groups who managed to resist both the colonising missions of the Inca and the Spanish. The upper photo of the front cover is a genuine Shuar dwelling that was on the side of the road on the way from Puyo to Macas in Ecuador. The lower one is a view of the rainforest as taken from Macas. Of all the towns and cities I visited in the Ecuadorian Amazon region, Macas was my favourite.

Download or read book The Chanka written by Brian S. Bauer and published by Cotsen Institute of Archaeology Press. This book was released on 2010-12-31 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In AD 1438 a battle took place outside the city of Cuzco that changed the course of South American history. The Chanka, a powerful ethnic group from the Andahuaylas region, had begun an aggressive program of expansion. Conquering a host of smaller polities, their army had advanced well inside the territory of their traditional rival, the Inca. In a series of unusual maneuvers, the Inca defeated the invading Chanka forces and became the most powerful people in the Andes. Many scholars believe that the defeat of the Chanka represents a defining moment in the history of South America as the Inca then continued to expand and establish the largest empire of the Americas. Despite its critical position in South American history, until recently the Chanka heartland remained unexplored and the cultural processes that led to their rapid development and subsequent defeat by the Inca had not been investigated. From 2001 to 2004, Brian Bauer conducted an archaeological survey of the Andahuaylas region. This project represents an unparalleled opportunity to examine theoretical issues concerning the history and cultural development of late-prehistoric societies in this area of the Andes. The resulting book includes an archaeological analysis on the development of the Chanka and examines their ultimate defeat by the Inca.
