Download or read book 20th Century Photographers written by Grace Schaub and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-11-13 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a compilation of interviews and essays that cover a broad range of photographers and photographic disciplines. Each photographer profiled made a living by concentrating on a specific aspect of the craft, but in doing so transcended their livelihood to become recognized for more than the type of images they created. Each had a distinct "style," creative approach, dedication to the craft, point of view about themselves and the world. These interviews were conducted during a seminal period in the shift from film to digital and from print reproduction to global distribution on the Internet. Just like their photographs continue to inspire today, now these pros’ words can live on as an invaluable reference for the photographers of the future. The truth and wisdom in this collection transcend time and technology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written in candid prose, Gibson takes the reader through his life and career that spans over 50 years. Gibson's story is a fascinating one, from his earliest memories growing up in California to his time in the navy and his continuous love affair with photography. Gibson's memories are time-capsules, filled with rich characters and period details. Often moving, the narratives of his at times troublesome childhood provide a rich background to the charismatic artist Gibson has become. His ruminations on his life so far display a deep, thoughtful understanding and self-awareness that make this book a fascinating read in itself as well as an illuminating companion to his work. Evocatively illustrated, Self Exposure presents Gibson's life story alongside his photographic work, all presented with high quality production values.

Download or read book Inherit the Dust written by Nick Brandt and published by Thames Hudson. This book was released on 2015 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three years after the conclusion of his trilogy, On This Earth, A Shadow Falls Across the Ravaged Land, Nick Brandt returns to East Africa to photograph the escalating changes to the continent's natural world. In a series of epic panoramas, Brandt records the impact of man in places where animals used to roam, but no longer do. In each location, Brandt erects a life size panel of one of his animal portrait photographs, setting the panels within a world of explosive urban development, factories, wasteland and quarries. The people within the photographs are oblivious to the presence of the panels and the animals featured in them, who are now no more than ghosts in the landscape. Some of the animals in the panels appear to be looking out at these destroyed landscapes with sadness, as if lamenting the loss of the world they once inhabited. By the end, we see that it is not just the animals who are the victims in this out of control world, but also the humans. Inherit the Dust also includes plates of the original portraits of the animals that are featured in the life-size panels, the unique emotional animal portraiture for which Brandt is recognized. There are also two essays by the artist: a text about the crisis facing the conservation of the natural world in East Africa, and behind-the-scenes descriptions of Brandt's elaborate production process, with accompanying documentary photographs.
