While many organizations create their management systems based on the requirements of their respective areas, integrating management systems provides the most effective solution to the challenges these organizations face. Integrated Management Systems: Leading Strategies and Solutions assists readers in the successful integration of their safety, quality, and environmental management systems. Using examples taken from a wide and diverse range of business situations, authors Terri Andrews and Wayne Pardy weave together a management system roadmap that can be used by any HSEQ practitioner, from the beginner to the seasoned industry professional. This book explores the many different management system options currently available, examines the requirements of the various management systems, explains the differences and similarities in the various approaches to management systems, and suggests practices and tools to help managers implement an integrated approach in order to reduce redundancies, streamline processes, and optimize resources. It includes an in-depth analysis of corporate culture and behavioral factors that affect management systems, and it employs a wide range of practical examples that any safety, quality, and environmental management practitioner can relate to. This book benefits health, safety, environmental management, and quality management practitioners and professionals, especially those who design and implement systems for the successful management of their safety and environmental performance, and for quality management requirements, customer service, and customer satisfaction.

Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to introduce and explain research at the boundary between two fields that view problem solving from different perspectives. Researchers in operations research and artificial intelligence have traditionally remained separate in their activities. Recently, there has been an explosion of work at the border of the two fields, as members of both communities seek to leverage their activities and resolve problems that remain intractable to pure operations research or artificial intelligence techniques. This book presents representative results from this current flurry of activity and provides insights into promising directions for continued exploration. This book should be of special interest to researchers in artificial intelligence and operations research because it exposes a number of applications and techniques, which have benefited from the integration of problem solving strategies. Even researchers working on different applications or with different techniques can benefit from the descriptions contained here, because they provide insight into effective methods for combining approaches from the two fields. Additionally, researchers in both communities will find a wealth of pointers to challenging new problems and potential opportunities that exist at the interface between operations research and artificial intelligence. In addition to the obvious interest the book should have for members of the operations research and artificial intelligence communities, the papers here are also relevant to members of other research communities and development activities that can benefit from improvements to fundamental problem solving approaches.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Updated to the latest standard changes including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and OHSAS 18001:2016 Includes guidance on integrating Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Organizations today are implementing stand-alone systems for their Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949, or AS 9100), Environmental Management System (ISO 14001), Occupational Health & Safety (ISO 18001), and Food Safety Management Systems (FSSC 22000). Stand-alone systems refer to the use of isolated document management structures resulting in the duplication of processes within one site for each of the management standards—QMS, EMS, OHSAS, and FSMS. In other words, the stand-alone systems duplicate training processes, document control, and internal audit processes for each standard within the company. While the confusion and lack of efficiency resulting from this decision may not be readily apparent to the uninitiated, this book will show the reader that there is a tremendous loss of value associated with stand-alone management systems within an organization. This book expands the understanding of an integrated management system (IMS) globally. It not only saves money, but more importantly it contributes to the maintenance and efficiency of business processes and conformance standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO/TS 16949, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, FSSC 22000, or other GFSI Standards.

This book was released on 2022-01-01 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Database technology is an important subject in Computer Science. Every large company and nation needs a database to store information. The technology has evolved from file systems in the 60’s, to Hierarchical and Network databases in the 70’s, to relational databases in the 80’s, object-oriented databases in the 90’s, and to XML documents and NoSQL today. As a result, there is a need to reengineer and update old databases into new databases. This book presents solutions for this task. In this fourth edition, Chapter 9 - Heterogeneous Database Connectivity (HDBC) offers a database gateway platform for companies to communicate with each other not only with their data, but also via their database. The ability of sharing a database can contribute to the applications of Big Data and surveys for decision support systems. The HDBC gateway solution collects input from the database, transfers the data into its middleware storage, converts it into a common data format such as XML documents, and then distributes them to the users. HDBC transforms the common data into the target database to meet the user’s requirements, acting like a voltage transformer hub. The voltage transformer converts the voltage to a voltage required by the users. Similarly, HDBC transforms the database to the target database required by the users. This book covers reengineering for data conversion, integration for combining databases and merging databases and expert system rules, normalization for eliminating duplicate data from the database, and above all, HDBC connects all legacy databases to one target database for the users. The authors provide a forum for readers to ask questions and the answers are given by the authors and the other readers on the Internet.
