Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 36 BC, Li Bi was the Prefect of Zhangye province in Han Dynasty China. He was called out of a comfortable retirement to join a military expedition against his old enemies the Xiongnu as cavalry commander. He would rather stay home in his new villa and enjoy the carnal pleasures with youngest wife Qingling. His past however beckons him and leaves him no choice. There are Romans in the Xiongnu army and perhaps, old comrades. Meanwhile as he prepares his men he writes a book about another war fought right around the world in Belgica. He traces the adventures of a young Centurion named Livy as he fights for Julius Caesar against the Belgae in 57BC. Livy leads Caesars band of mounted scouts armed with composite bows. The war is brutal but Livys life is complicated by the many exotic and seductive women he meets on the campaign trail. Caesar sends him on ever more dangerous missions but Livys understanding of the art of war sees him trough each encounter with the brave and determined enemy. The campaign climaxes at the River Sabis where Bodougnatus, King of the Nervii and 100,000 blood thirsty barbarians set up an elaborate ambush for the unwary Roman Army. Can Caesars vaunted tactical skills save the Roman Army from annihilation? Will Livys vaunted good luck finally run out? Meanwhile Li Bi rides west to face Chanyu Zhizhi, King of the Western Xiongnu with his newly raised cavalry armed with repeating crossbows. How will his Chinese troops fare against crack Roman infantry?

My children are fortunate to have friends from all over the world and a wide variety of experiences. Everyday I thank God for the blessings he has showered on us and for the fantastic future which is sure to unfurl before us.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tony Tebbutt's creative storytelling in his breakthrough book, is a mélange of his wild and mischievous real-life experiences flavored with a dash of fiction, that takes you on a roller-coaster ride of the unique way of life that was Hong Kong in the '50s and '60s. He recounts a truly amazing litany of teenage experiences that would be foreign to most not having the opportunity to enjoy the appetizing delights of the British Colony bordering China. We get a look at how it felt to be a local born of mixed heritage passing back and forth between Oriental and Occidental cultures during a great period in the Colony's history. We are told of life as a student in a multi-cultural high school called KGV. Tebbutt opens up his inner-self to expose his emotions, joy and personal frailties as he recounts his life lessons with personal achievement, education, women and moral values. Through it all he is able to find humor in his faults and share the exuberance of his successes. An easy read and an absolute must if you enjoy good stories, coming of age or have a connection to old Hong Kong.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two thousand years of legend and lore about the menace and majesty of dragons, which have breathed fire into our imaginations from ancient Rome to Game of Thrones A Penguin Classic The most popular mythological creature in the human imagination, dragons have provoked fear and fascination for their lethal venom and crushing coils, and as avatars of the Antichrist, servants of Satan, couriers of the damned to Hell, portents of disaster, and harbingers of the last days. Here are accounts spanning millennia and continents of these monsters that mark the boundary between the known and the unknown, including: their origins in the deserts of Africa; their struggles with their mortal enemies, elephants, in the jungles of South Asia; their fear of lightning; the world’s first dragon slayer, in an ancient collection of Sanskrit hymns; the colossal sea monster Leviathan; the seven-headed “great red dragon” of the Book of Revelation; the Loch Ness monster; the dragon in Beowulf, who inspired Smaug in Tolkien’s The Hobbit; the dragons in the prophecies of the wizard Merlin; a dragon saved from a centipede in Japan who gifts his human savior a magical bag of rice; the supernatural feathered serpent of ancient Mesoamerica; and a flatulent dragon the size of the Trojan Horse. From the dark halls of the Lonely Mountain to the blue skies of Westeros, we expect dragons to be gigantic, reptilian predators with massive, bat-like wings, who wreak havoc defending the gold they have hoarded in the deep places of the earth. But dragons are full of surprises, as is this book. For more than seventy-five years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 2,000 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators.
