Book Synopsis Documents on the Arab-Israeli Conflict by : M Cherif Bassiouni
Download or read book Documents on the Arab-Israeli Conflict written by M Cherif Bassiouni and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2023-04-17 with total page 1259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive compilation of some 595 documents on the Arab-Israeli conflict and a variety of related issues includes all the materials the researcher, analyst, and student of this conflict and region needs in a single text, from the years 1897 to 2003. Documents are listed in chronological order because many documents refer to more than one subject. They are, however, identified in the introduction according to subject matter. When different aspects recurred in a number of UN resolutions, only the main document is included, while others are referred to. The compilation is not only about Palestinian issues. It includes all relevant documents between Arab states and Israel, from the armistice agreements (1949), to the peace treaties with Egypt (1979) and Jordan (1994), as well as their protocols and other documents that derive from these treaties. The subject-matter content is as varied as the legal and political issues presented by this conflict. It includes geographical boundaries, refugees, water rights, regional security, elimination of weapons of mass destruction, and, of course, human rights and peace. Published under the Transnational Publishers imprint. The print edition is available as a set of two volumes (9781571052902).

Book excerpt: Volume IV of The Arab-Israeli Conflict is a fundamental research tool for students of the Middle East and for those responsible for U.S. policy-making in that area. It is a successor to John Norton Moore's widely acclaimed three-volume compilation of readings and documents on international law and the Arab-Israeli conflict and to the one-volume abridged edition of that compilation, published by Princeton University Press in 1974 and 1977 respectively. Additionally, Volume IV stands on its own as a documentary history of the period from the September 1975 Sinai accords through the Shultz peace initiative and the Palestinian uprising in December 1988. Originally published in 1991. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Book Synopsis Israeli Democracy at the Crossroads by : Raphael Cohen-Almagor
Download or read book Israeli Democracy at the Crossroads written by Raphael Cohen-Almagor and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-09-13 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the discussion about Israel was dominated by post-Zionist, post-Israeli opinions. Important voices that represent large sectors of Israeli society were not heard. To somewhat change this situation, some of the best scholars in their respective fields participate in this ultimate collection of essays about Israeli society, its politics and schisms. The book aims to tackle timely concerns, like Israel’s fight against terror, its relationships with the Palestinians, the mutual relationships between the civic society and the army, the status of women in society, and separation between state and religion. Particular attention is given to probing the state of human rights, minority rights, and health rights. The volume also discusses the tensions between liberalism and socialism, between state and religion, and between immigration groups, most notably resulting from the immigration from the former Soviet Union.

Book Synopsis Leaving Other People Alone by : Aaron Kreuter
Download or read book Leaving Other People Alone written by Aaron Kreuter and published by University of Alberta. This book was released on 2023-12-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leaving Other People Alone reads contemporary North American Jewish fiction about Israel/Palestine through an anti-Zionist lens. Aaron Kreuter argues that since Jewish diasporic fiction played a major role in establishing the centroperipheral relationship between Israel and the diaspora, it therefore also has the potential to challenge, trouble, and ultimately rework this relationship. Kreuter suggests that any fictional work that concerns itself with Israel/Palestine and Zionism comes with heightened responsibilities, primarily to make narrative space for the Palestinian worldview, the dispossessed Other of the Zionist project. In engaging prose, the book features a wide range of scholarship and new, compelling readings of texts by Theodor Herzl, Leon Uris, Philip Roth, Ayelet Tsabari, and David Bezmozgis. Throughout, Kreuter develops his concept of diasporic heteroglossia, which is fiction’s unique ability to contain multiple voices that resist and write back against national centres. This work makes an important and original contribution to Jewish studies, diaspora studies, and world literature.
