Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Family secrets, broken friendships, spirit possession, and natural magic. This book will haunt you until the very end and long after you finish." - Rachel Menard, award-winning author of Game of Strength and Storm & Clash of Fate and Fury "Neilson’s sophomore novel is a haunting love story for the ages, perfectly layered and exquisitely told. " —Buzzfeed From the author of Deep in Providence comes a paranormal young adult romance that follows a teen convinced that her best friend–turned-enemy is possessed by a ghost, perfect for fans of White Smoke and Twilight. Seventeen-year-old Aria Cayetano dreams of ghosts. She used to see them too, but thanks to a special tea brewed by her grandfather, Aria’s connection to the spirit world has been severed. Until a decades old rosebush suddenly dies across the street, convincing Aria that something supernatural is happening in her neighborhood. She aches to investigate it, but the rosebush sits on her ex-best friend Derek Johnson’s front lawn, and she can't question him because he hates her now. Aria doesn't know what drove them apart years ago, but she does know Derek's been acting strange for weeks, sneaking out in the dead of night to who knows where. Then, days after the rosebush dies, Derek begins speaking to her again. At least Aria thinks it’s him. Until she discovers there’s a ghost inside of Derek that will take his life if it doesn’t find what it’s searching for. As Aria and Derek race to uncover the mystery, another kind of magic takes them by surprise: love. But Aria has to decide how far she’s willing to go to save Derek, especially when helping the ghost means tapping into whatever the tea has buried inside of her. Bone-chilling and spellbinding, I’m Not Supposed to Be in the Dark is an alluring ghost story that’s about exorcising the past to find a future to believe in. "In Neilson's hands, a ghost story is never just a ghost story—teenage rebellion and friendship troubles are woven together with captivating imagery, compelling characters, and yes, ghosts. This book is a study in the lengths we will go to in order to protect those we love. A study in knowing when to let go and when to hold on—even if it means risking ourselves in the process." - Lillie Lainoff, author of One For All

Horribly abused at the hand of her father, it is a collection of essays that graphically recount memories of her life as a confused child and young adult as she careened through life without compass, to ultimately, and against all odds, prosper. Culminating in the event that brought a degree of closure to her torture, O'Sullivan brings the reader on an intimate life journey through the eyes of this child’s misunderstanding, will to persevere and desire to seek goodness despite her circumstances. Terrifying, infuriating and uplifting, this book touches not only survivors; but parents, childcare workers and teachers; reminding us of the true vulnerability of children and our collective responsibility to protect them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 'Tender is the Night', Francis Scott Fitzgerald delves into the glamorous and turbulent world of the American expatriates in the 1920s. The novel follows the lives of Dick and Nicole Diver, exploring the complexities of marriage, mental health, and the destructive impact of wealth and status. Fitzgerald's beautiful prose captures the essence of the Jazz Age while simultaneously providing a poignant commentary on human nature and the effects of societal expectations. The novel's structure, with its non-linear narrative and intricate character development, showcases Fitzgerald's literary prowess and ability to create a vivid and immersive story. 'Tender is the Night' stands as a classic example of American literature, showcasing the author's keen insight into the human condition and skillful storytelling. Francis Scott Fitzgerald himself led a troubled life marked by personal struggles and the pursuit of societal success. His own experiences with wealth and excess likely informed the themes present in 'Tender is the Night', making the novel a deeply personal and introspective work. Fitzgerald's reputation as a literary giant of the 20th century further solidifies the importance of 'Tender is the Night' in the realm of American literature. I recommend 'Tender is the Night' to readers looking for a thought-provoking and emotionally resonant novel that explores the complexities of human relationships and societal expectations. Fitzgerald's masterful storytelling and profound insights make this novel a must-read for anyone interested in classic literature.

Book Synopsis Beyond the Horizon by : Peggy M. Ridge
Download or read book Beyond the Horizon written by Peggy M. Ridge and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-10-30 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about me and the adversity that he has beset me in this community due to my diagnosed mental illness and my advocacy for the mentally ill. Many of the poems come from life experiences in the past and absorb the reality of death. There were days when no one encouraged me, many ignored me, and others talked about me. This weaved in and out of the poetry when I felt this pain and wrote it out in my poetry. There are also poems relating to nature that revive my mind and inspires me to continue on. America is in some of my poems and how I feel that a nation has come so far but up at a standstill now. I listen to the news everyday because when I graduated in 1963, that was what we were told to do- keep up with the news because the world would get smaller and my poetry reflects what is going on in the world today. This book is a combination of adversity, nature, death, and world conflict. And I think all can relate to my book in diverse ways. My name is Peggy Marie Ridge Oliver, mother of two children, and grandmother of eight. The last I counted. I have a B.A. degree in social work and was pursuing a second B.A. degree in English Literature/Creative writing which was not a completed due to a medical condition. On top of all this, I have had a mental illness for 30 years and accomplished all of the above. Most professional people, especially in the mental health field, say I am a remarkable woman because many people with a diagnosed mental illness do not accomplish this in a lifetime.
