Book excerpt: This book offers 30 sample "intrinsic value per share" business valuations in the style that Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger may use. In each case the author tried to simulate an approach that they would take to valuing a business, based on what they have written and talked about. However, all of the growth assumptions used are the author's own. No consultation nor endorsement was sought with Mr. Buffett or his business partner Mr. Munger. The examples given are chosen for educational and illustrative purposes only. The valuation cases are estimations written in a style that emphasizes a focus on free cash flow and the number of shares outstanding. Readers are also repeatedly encouraged to think about the business' competitive position. In reality, these businesses may outperform or they may underperform any of the author's projections.

Done in a style that Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger may use, these valuations are based on free cash flows each business produced. In each case presented, the author, Bud Labitan, simulated an approach that Buffett and Munger might take to valuing a business, based on what they have written and talked about. However, all of the growth assumptions used are Labitan's own. No consultation or endorsement was sought with Mr. Buffett or Mr. Munger. How is this portfolio of five businesses doing after five years? If the reader had invested an equal amount of money in all five businesses in 2010, the average annual return so far would be 42%.

Book excerpt: “Price To Value†is about Intelligent Speculation. It is about decision framing and using the amazing "Decision Filters" of Charlie Munger and Warren Buffett. These “filters†offer us the opportunity to enhance our decision framing and decision making skills in both investing and speculation. How can we use this framework to improve our speculative decision making? We can use it to help us separate fact from fiction. Readers will benefit from this book if it stimulates better thinking into the most important factors crucial to decision making. These decision framing ideas can be applied across different asset classes. First, the book presents the four investing decision filters in simplified terms. Then, it extends these ideas by looking into the intelligent speculation ideal described by Benjamin Graham in his tenth lecture of 1946.

Book excerpt: "Look at market fluctuations as your friend rather than your enemy; profit from folly rather than participate in it." —Warren Buffett Investors shouldn't hate the market because of its up and downs. They should capitalize on it—and give a middle finger to those brokers wasting their time (and money) buying and selling, viewing investing as just buying stocks and not taking ownership of a company. In this book, Joe Ponzio gives an "f-you" to Wall Street and teaches you how to become a sharp value investor who uses economic downturns to your advantage. By buying into companies you believe in—but that may be selling for less than their intrinsic value, like high-end retailers in a weak market and discount retailers in a strong one—you will profit from their long-term performance. It's the perfect guide for anyone fed up with Wall Street's bull.

Book excerpt: A must-read book on the quantitative value investment strategy Warren Buffett and Ed Thorp represent two spectrums of investing: one value driven, one quantitative. Where they align is in their belief that the market is beatable. This book seeks to take the best aspects of value investing and quantitative investing as disciplines and apply them to a completely unique approach to stock selection. Such an approach has several advantages over pure value or pure quantitative investing. This new investing strategy framed by the book is known as quantitative value, a superior, market-beating method to investing in stocks. Quantitative Value provides practical insights into an investment strategy that links the fundamental value investing philosophy of Warren Buffett with the quantitative value approach of Ed Thorp. It skillfully combines the best of Buffett and Ed Thorp—weaving their investment philosophies into a winning, market-beating investment strategy. First book to outline quantitative value strategies as they are practiced by actual market practitioners of the discipline Melds the probabilities and statistics used by quants such as Ed Thorp with the fundamental approaches to value investing as practiced by Warren Buffett and other leading value investors A companion Website contains supplementary material that allows you to learn in a hands-on fashion long after closing the book If you're looking to make the most of your time in today's markets, look no further than Quantitative Value.

This book was released on 2020-05-05 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a value investor, you want to buy stock in great companies for great prices. This means comparing what a stock is really worth to its current price, so you know if it is cheap, expensive, or fairly priced. But how do you know what a stock is really worth? In this book, you will learn about various metrics and methods used to value a stock. There is no single method that is the best to use. Instead, there are several methods that you can add to your valuation toolbox. Then, you can choose which one is the best fit for a company's particular situation. When a business is losing money or closing its doors, a liquidation value might be the most appropriate. When a company's cash flow is predictable, the discounted cash flow analysis method may be best. Concepts covered in this book include: - earnings multiples- P/E ratios- EBITDA multiples- enterprise value- free cash flow - owner's earnings (Warren Buffett's invention)- discounted cash flow analysis, and- dividend discount modelWith these methods, you will be able to value many different kinds of companies so you can decide whether a particular stock is a good buy. You will also better understand the reasoning behind an analyst's opinion of value when reading investment reports. Knowing how to accurately value a stock will help you make better investment decisions and take advantage of opportunities in the stock market.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains the mathematical equation behind the Stock Price (business value) based on key fundamental factors of business - Present Earning (CF), risk associated with Present Earning (r), Growth (possibility of reinvestment gain) and risk-free interest rate (i). One can see all these essential factors to value a business in a quantifiable form in this intrinsic value equation. Author has done an extensive research on various business valuation methods (for the past ten years) and arrived his own conclusions. The approach described in this book to value a business is unique and entirely different from the traditional business valuation methods of using PE ratio, Price to book value, dividend discounted cash flow calculation etc... Further, the author has explained it in detail why the intrinsic value of business is always an 'opportunity cost' and he explains how the price paid for purchasing a business is justified from a private owner point of view (quite often very high price corresponding to the present earning of the business). Note: A download link is provided inside this book for user to download an excel file which is critical to understand many part of this book, so please download and keep open the file while you reading this book.

This book was released on 2018 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper is focused on verifying the value investment approach recommended by Benjamin Graham by comparing factor the price-to-book ratio of shortlisted few sector- wise companies listed on the National Stock Exchange of India. Graham suggested that stocks with low price-to-book ratio can potentially be valuable investments as they do not carry major risk of under-performance and appreciate in the long run. The value investing approach is predominantly followed by Warren Buffett - Chairman, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., who is consistently ranked among the world's wealthiest people and considered to be one of the most successful investors in the world. This approach is used internationally for investment analysis in the stock markets but it has not been specifically examined to suit the Indian scenario. Our study shows that this approach is unreliable for making investment decisions because the stocks with low price-to-book ratio did not generate high returns. The returns were lower than the average returns of the sector and hence Graham's value investing principle is inconsistent with the Indian capital market.
