Book Synopsis The Ante-Nicene Fathers by : Reverend Alexander Roberts
Download or read book The Ante-Nicene Fathers written by Reverend Alexander Roberts and published by Cosimo, Inc.. This book was released on 2007-05-01 with total page 712 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "One of the first great events in Christian history was the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, convened to organize Christian sects and beliefs into a unified doctrine. The great Christian clergymen who wrote before this famous event are referred to as the Ante-Nicenes and the Apostolic Fathers, and their writings are collected here in a ten-volume set. The Ante-Nicenes lived so close to the time of Christ that their interpretations of the New Testament are considered more authentic than modern voices. But they are also real and flawed men, who are more like their fellow Christians than they are like the Apostles, making their words echo in the ears of spiritual seekers. In Volume V of the 10-volume collected works of the Ante-Nicenes first published between 1885 and 1896, readers will find the writings of: Hippolytus, who during his time was considered an antipope because of his conflicts with the Church Cyprian, a bishop of Carthage, who greatly supported the establishment of the Church Caius, who supposedly wrote the Muratorian Canon, the oldest list of the books in the New Testament Novatian, an antipope who founded a sect of Christianity that endured a few hundred years after his death."

Book Synopsis The Solar Spectrum 3069Å-2095Å by : Charlotte Emma Moore
Download or read book The Solar Spectrum 3069Å-2095Å written by Charlotte Emma Moore and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the final listing of solar lines recorded in the NRL echelle spectra photographed at high resolution from Aerobee rockets flown in 1961 and 1964. The wavelength range covered is 3069Å to 2095Å. It is intended to accompany NRL report numbers 7788, 'An Atlas of the Solar Spectrum Between 2226 and 2992 Angstroms,' which presents the solar irradiance at 0.03 Å resolution as derived from the echelle spectra. Solar wavelengths are given to 0.01 Å, and estimated solar intensities are listed on a visual scale of 1 to 9. Identifications have been made from a detailed study of the multiplets in individual spectra and are based on a search of the spectroscopic literature. Laboratory wavelengths, multiplet numbers, and references are cited for each line. Approximately 6150 lines are reported, of which 80% are identified.
Book Synopsis The King's Hall Within the University of Cambridge in the Later Middle Ages by : Alan B. Cobban
Download or read book The King's Hall Within the University of Cambridge in the Later Middle Ages written by Alan B. Cobban and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-01-11 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A detailed study of the King's Hall, Cambridge, from its foundation in the early fourteenth century until its dissolution in 1546. It is based largely on the 26 extant volumes of the King's Hall accounts which form one of the most remarkable sequences of medieval collegiate records in Europe. The rich profusion of the material has made it possible to reconstruct the economic, constitutional and business organisation of a medieval academic society, thereby providing for the college that same kind of exhaustive treatment which has been lavished upon other categories of medieval institutions. Dr Cobban discusses the vital contribution made by the King's Hall to the evolution of the University of Cambridge and shows how the interpretation of medieval Cambridge history has to be considerably modified. He demonstrates the important formative influence of the King's Hall in shaping the course of English collegiate development and the ways in which this College was finely attuned to the new educational trends of the age.

Book Synopsis Aristotle: New Light on His Life and On Some of His Lost Works, Volume 2 by : Anton-Hermann Chroust
Download or read book Aristotle: New Light on His Life and On Some of His Lost Works, Volume 2 written by Anton-Hermann Chroust and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-08-14 with total page 523 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1973. Aristotle’s early works probably belong to the formative era of his philosophic thought and as such contribute vitally to the understanding and evaluation of the development of his philosophy. This book shows that the philosophy propagated in these lost works indicates an undeniable Platonism, and thus seems to conflict with the basic doctrines in the traditional treatises collected in the Corpus Aristotelicum. Was the author of the lost early works and the later preserved treatises one and the same person, or were some of these treatises written by members of the Early Peripatus? This, the second of two volumes, discusses in detail certain decisive aspects of Aristotle’s early works. Fascinating hypotheses and conjectures put forward here provoke discussion and further investigation in the ‘Aristotelian Problem’.
