Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine if we treated broken hearts with the same respect and concern we have for broken arms? Psychologist Guy Winch urges us to rethink the way we deal with emotional pain, offering warm, wise, and witty advice for the broken-hearted. Real heartbreak is unmistakable. We think of nothing else. We feel nothing else. We care about nothing else. Yet while we wouldn’t expect someone to return to daily activities immediately after suffering a broken limb, heartbroken people are expected to function normally in their lives, despite the emotional pain they feel. Now psychologist Guy Winch imagines how different things would be if we paid more attention to this unique emotion—if only we can understand how heartbreak works, we can begin to fix it. Through compelling research and new scientific studies, Winch reveals how and why heartbreak impacts our brain and our behavior in dramatic and unexpected ways, regardless of our age. Emotional pain lowers our ability to reason, to think creatively, to problem solve, and to function at our best. In How to Fix a Broken Heart he focuses on two types of emotional pain—romantic heartbreak and the heartbreak that results from the loss of a cherished pet. These experiences are both accompanied by severe grief responses, yet they are not deemed as important as, for example, a formal divorce or the loss of a close relative. As a result, we are often deprived of the recognition, support, and compassion afforded to those whose heartbreak is considered more significant. Our heart might be broken, but we do not have to break with it. Winch reveals that recovering from heartbreak always starts with a decision, a determination to move on when our mind is fighting to keep us stuck. We can take control of our lives and our minds and put ourselves on the path to healing. Winch offers a toolkit on how to handle and cope with a broken heart and how to, eventually, move on.

Book excerpt: Our massive, global system of consumption is broken. Our individual relationship with our stuff is broken. In each of our homes, some stuff is broken. And the strain of rampant consumerism and manufacturing is breaking our planet. We need big, systemic changes, from public policy to global economic systems. Since founding Fixup, a pop-up repair shop that brought her coverage in The New York Times, Salon, New York Public Radio, and more, Sandra Goldmark has become a leader in the movement to demand better "stuff" and to bring companies on board. Her solution is surprisingly simple and involves all of us: have good stuff, not too much, mostly reclaimed, care for it, and pass it on. Fixation charts the path to the next frontier in the health, wellness, and environmental movements--learning how to value stewardship over waste. Passionate, wise, and practical, Fixation offers us a new understanding of stuff by building a value chain where good design, reuse, and repair are the status quo.

Book excerpt: I didn't write this book to destroy my ex I actually started to write it for myself as it felt cathartic to write everything down. My ex ASOH was not a bad man he did not mean to do the things he did but the lack of love and affection and the complete absence of emotional reciprocity nearly destroyed me. My ex did not know he had Asperger's neither did I it was only after I had left him and he moved on straight away that I started to research why he had no feelings. How could you move on from a 13 year relationship without a backward glance? He had rejected me emotionally for almost 12 of the 13 years I was with him and now he had delivered the final rejection, he had moved on without a care.I came across so many differing personality types none of which fit him until I came across Asperger's or High Functioning Autism as it is now known. AS fit him like a glove, the lack of warmth, affection, conversation and poor social interactions he was classic AS. I hope by reading this book that it might save just one of you lonely Neuro Typical (normal) partners from the painful situation I found myself in. Don't read this book if you don't want read swearing or you want to salvage your relationship this book is not about making an AS/NT relationship work it's about the damage done to the NT spouse. If it offends you tough it's true totally true I have a right to give the story my point of view and not from a totally empathy free AS point of view.

The Emotion Code has already changed many lives around the world, and it is my hope that millions more will be led to use this simple tool to heal themselves and their loved ones."—Tony Robbins In this newly revised and expanded edition of The Emotion Code, renowned holistic physician and lecturer Dr. Bradley Nelson skillfully lays bare the inner workings of the subconscious mind. He reveals how emotionally-charged events from your past can still be haunting you in the form of "trapped emotions"—emotional energies that literally inhabit your body. These trapped emotions can fester in your life and body, creating pain, malfunction, and eventual disease. They can also extract a heavy mental and emotional toll on you, impacting how you think, the choices that you make, and the level of success and abundance you are able to achieve. Perhaps most damaging of all, trapped emotional energies can gather around your heart, cutting off your ability to give and receive love. The Emotion Code is a powerful and simple way to rid yourself of this unseen baggage. Dr. Nelson’s method gives you the tools to identify and release the trapped emotions in your life, eliminating your “emotional baggage,” and opening your heart and body to the positive energies of the world. Filled with real-world examples from many years of clinical practice, The Emotion Code is a distinct and authoritative work that has become a classic on self-healing.

You who are exhausted searching for the one thing that will make it all better. You who have tried self-help courses, therapy, medication, changing relationships, reading piles of books, changing living situations, haircuts, eating plans, getting a pet, distractions, exercise, yoga, staying in bed all day, sleeping more, sleeping less, detoxing, smoothies, journaling, talking about it, not talking about it, being social, sitting in solitude, long baths, long drives, vision boards, workshops, crying on the kitchen floor, screaming in the woods, changing jobs. This is for you who have tried it all...and yet nothing has worked. Nothing has taken away the feelings. Nothing has stopped the mean thoughts from coming. Nothing has soothed the self-loathing and shame. Nothing has quieted the anxiety and panic. Nothing has lifted the weight of depression off of your chest. Nothing has set you free from the cycle of pain, struggle, hope, and disappointment. That's what this book is here to help you with, dear one. Just one more book. Just one more try. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How well do you know your ABCs? It’s been probably a long time since you last went over the basic English alphabet. In this book you’ll have the opportunity to revisit each letter, from A all the way to Z, which sequentially marks the 26 basic guideposts to achievement that I’ll be discussing. But first, let’s backtrack to that time when we were first taught to read and write our ABCs. We didn’t have any idea then about its value and much less about its importance in our lives, but we surely found learning those 26 letters a lot of fun. We treasured almost every moment of it. In my case, I was so excited to go home and to show my parents how well I was doing in my ABCs. I wanted to show off to them whatever accomplishments I had done in school. It didn’t matter what grade my teacher gave me for them. It was enough to know that I’ve done something when the school day was over. Finally, my parents would take a look at my masterpieces from school and then sometimes say that I didn’t do that well. They’d tell me to my face that I messed up. I didn’t like that because instead of focusing on my achievements, no matter how small, it seemed to me as if they were always too much in a rush to really look over and appreciate what I was doing. This left with no choice but to do whatever it took to get better grades in school. I learned to cheat a little like so many others of my classmates—but just a little, mind you—and got stuck with that habit! My parents were proud of my progress in school but deep inside me, I felt that there was really nothing about what I was doing to be proud of. I knew that some of my classmates and acquaintances didn’t do it my way. Instead of facing the challenge thrown to them by their parents, they found it easier to fight back and rebel. They simply decided to no longer pay attention to their schoolwork. What’s the point, they’d ask, if all that their parents and most people could see are their weaknesses and failures? The problem here is that many of us are taught to achieve rather than to learn. We are taught to aim at getting somewhere but we are not really taught how to get there. As children, many of us get the idea that achieving small things doesn’t matter at all. What matters is that we’d get something for our effort, no matter how small the effort. The idea of greed perhaps won’t be there yet. We just need to perform to the best of our ability and that’s it. It’s really no big deal. Many of us didn’t like that idea, of course, even if we couldn’t articulate our objection at the time. We just didn’t have the words for it yet. I think this is where the power of the alphabet comes in. It gives us the power to create something for ourselves. After we learned our ABCs, we could wondrously put them together so we can write or speak a word, two words, three words, four words, and so on.

Book excerpt: Allow God to heal the broken record of your soul, so you can step into your calling, speak up for what's right, and dance your own story of God's grace. What does the soundtrack in your head sound like? The hurtful words of others and the failures of your past often determine what record you play the most in your mind. Those painful repetitions often keep us from speaking up, standing up for what's right, being loved, pursuing our dreams, and growing closer to God. Spoken word poet Amena Brown's broken records played messages about how she wasn't worthy to be loved. But after years of playing those destructive rhythms over and over, How to Fix a Broken Record chronicles her journey of healing as she's allowed the music of God's love to play on repeat instead. From bad dates to marriage lessons at Waffle House, from learning to love her hair to learning to love an unexpected season of life, from discovering the power of saying no and the freedom to say yes, Amena offers keep-it-real stories your soul can relate to. Along the way, you'll discover how to . . . Recognize the negative messages that play on repeat in your mind Replace them with the truth that you are a beloved child of God And find new joy in the beautiful music of your life.
