Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Idolatry in the Church is practiced through images of Christian leaders implanted in the hearts and the minds of believers. Christian leaders are not gods. There is a demonic spirit attached to this fleshly worship of man. Idolatry of Christian Leaders is a book which captures your heart from start to finish. Written in a straight forward, honest, and confrontational style, the Holy Spirit compels Christian believers to evaluate their true motives for Christian service and their love relationship with God. Proper heart alignment with God through the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit is the book's central theme. Idolatry of Christian Leaders confronts idolatry of Christian leaders, denominations and other aspects of the Church which cause believers to walk in religion, traditions of men and deception. Book excerpt: Abstract theology is overrated, for God can be found in even the most ordinary of things. Jesus used things like a lily, sparrow, and sheep to teach about the kingdom of God. And in the Old Testament, God repeatedly describes himself and his saving work in relation to physical things such as a rock, horn, or eagle. In God of All Things, pastor and author Andrew Wilson invites you to rediscover God in this way, too--through ordinary, everyday things. He explores the idea of a material world and presents a variety of created marvels that reveal the gospel in everyday life and fuel worship and joy in God--marvels like: Dust: the image of God Horns: the salvation of God Donkeys: the peace of God Water: the life of God Viruses: the problem of God Cities: the kingdom of God God of All Things will leave you with a deeper understanding of Scripture, the world you live in, and the God who made it all.

Idols sits on that shelf, for Herb's lucid critique has been an invaluable reference for my own writings. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the Church moves forward in today's society, there is a great need for Pastors, Elders and spiritual leaders that will reflect the nature of our Lord and be examples to His flock. However, one of the dangerous extremes within the Body of Christ today is the adoration and "hero worship" of our leaders over the adoration of our Lord Jesus Christ. It's very sad that many Christians in the Church today have mistakenly given a place that should be reserved strictly for God alone to those who lead them. This book, Between Honor and Idolatry seeks to help us as Christians learn how to love, respect and honor those in authority over us without falling into idolatry to them. We must give the Lord back His place in our hearts while balancing out and developing a healthy relationship with those whom He has called to oversee us. Ken West has served Jesus Christ for over 30 years. He currently serves on the Leadership Team at Cornerstone Church in Broadway, Virginia. He resides with his wife and children in the Shenandoah Valley where he also works in the Information Technologies field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Embodied Idolatry: A Critique of Christian Nationalism is an examination of the effect of Christian nationalism on Christian practice in the United States. Kyle Edward Haden focuses on the mechanisms by which such beliefs become sedimented into the emotional, embodied structures of the church and the individual. Using a variety of disciplines, Haden thus identifies and highlights how such beliefs and practices are, in fact, idolatrous and inhabit an anti-Christian theological and ethical space. This book describes the formative process and mechanisms by which social and cultural values are acquired through imitation, by the individual and within ecclesial communities. As a constructive countermeasure, it investigates Jesus’s practice in his own social, cultural, political, religious, and economic context, and argues that Christian nationalism is a betrayal of Jesus’s teachings in light of his own practice of hospitality and table fellowship. This book thus calls Christians to conversion, putting loyalty to the kingdom of God over that of the nation.

Wright calls readers to fight the temptation of idolatry as we consider connections between Old Testament patterns and today's culture.

This book was released on 2020-01-10 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like so many new believers, I went to church filled with passion but lacking any real knowledge of the Word. I was faithful and naïve. I soon learned that S.H.I.T. happens everywhere, even in church. The important thing is not getting stained by it. S.H.I.T. stands for Seduction, Hypocrisy, Idolatry, and Talebearing, all of which I experienced and endured for 18 years, and it nearly killed me-literally. What I learned is how important it is to understand God's real teachings and what He intends for us. The enemy seizes every opportunity to seduce and deceive us away from the path of righteousness. Churchgoers--and church leaders--are not immune.I experienced a ton of S.H.I.T. in church. One pastor supposedly "healed" a woman by groping her breasts in front of the congregation. Another was a latent dominatrix and whipped members, particularly men, on stage for everyone to witness. I have seen deviant-entitled pastors' children, real witches speaking evil curses over parishioners and a lunatic hopping around the sanctuary acting like a holy chicken. I have been pushed into marriage with a struggling drug addict by a spiteful co-pastor. I have been humiliated, disrespected, financially exploited, and even sexually propositioned by trusted church leaders. I have been persecuted and shunned by people I thought were my sisters and brothers in Christ. I know that S.H.I.T. happens in the most unexpected place-the house of God. Don't allow sin of leaders to separate you from the love of God. This book is for others who have also sought God only to be served heaping piles of dung. Through my personal stories and reflections on nearly two decades of S.H.I.T. I offer an important message: You are not alone. Don't let the failings of others cause you to fail. Learn the true Word so you can separate the teachings of God from those of self-interested and fallible people who wrap themselves in the Bible while trying to get into your pocketbook (or your pants). We cannot stop S.H.I.T. from happening, but we can choose how we deal with it and make ourselves clean with knowledge, forgiveness, a little laughter, and our unfailing love for God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spate of recent scandals of power abuse by leaders within the evangelical world suggests something is wrong in our churches. When a leader misuses power, they have misunderstood and misrepresented God and the gospel. This volume addresses the key underlying issue of what a biblical and healthy use of power in the church actually looks like. Authors from a variety of Christian backgrounds and traditions help frame a biblical and theological understanding and practice of power use, describe what it looks like when things go wrong (and how to recognize the signs), and suggest how the contemporary church can and must do better in this area. This book is a rigorously grounded biblical challenge to much contemporary practice. It is a call to reformation. Table of Contents Introduction: Why Another Book on Power and Why Now? The Imperfect Disciple is for the rest of us--people who screw up, people who are weary, people who are wondering if it's safe to say what they're really thinking. For the believer who is tired of quasi-spiritual lifehacks being passed off as true, down-and-dirty discipleship, here is a discipleship book that isn't afraid to be honest about the mess we call real life. With incisive wit, warm humor, and moving stories, Jared Wilson shows readers how the gospel works in them and in their lives when - they can't get their act together - they think God is giving them the silent treatment - they think church would be better without all the people - they're not happy with the person in the mirror - and much more Wilson frees readers from the self-doubt and even the misplaced self-confidence they may feel as they walk with Jesus down the often difficult road of life. The result is a faith that weathers storms, lifts burdens, and goes forth to make more imperfect disciples.

Book excerpt: In order to help pastors and other Christian leaders to lovingly lead God’s flock to Jesus Christ and into God’s mission, Scott Thomas and Tom Wood clarify a process of coaching and shepherding that is rooted in the patterns of the Good Shepherd himself, a process in which leaders stir up the gifts, passion, and calling upon others’ lives. This book addresses the needs of the leader, his or her sinful tendencies, and church leadership issues. It directs the leader to the person and work of Jesus. It provides a system to intentionally shepherd leaders to glorify God in their personal, spiritual, and missional lives. Many ministry leaders serving in churches find themselves overwhelmed, disillusioned, and depressed by the enormous and challenging task of leading and ministering in a congregation. As a result, the ministry suffers, the leaders suffer, and the result is often an unhealthy church existent with little or no Gospel influence. These leaders need someone to shepherd their soul so that they can lead others to the Chief Shepherd, Jesus Christ. We suggest that coaching for the church leader looks less like corporate consulting or humanistic psychology and more like biblical-shepherding. We suggest that every church leader needs a Gospel Coach to come alongside with words of truth, wisdom and experience to encourage, admonish, comfort and help—words drawn from Scripture and godly wisdom, grounded in the gracious saving work of Jesus Christ, and presented in the context of a trusting relationship. Gospel Coaching is an intentional relationship to skillfully care for others with four ancient shepherding principles: 1) Know the sheep, 2) Feed the sheep, 3) Lead the sheep, and 4) Protect the sheep. A Gospel Coach both inquires about the personal, spiritual, and missional aspects of a ministry leader’s life in a loving yet focused manner, and also probes the church leader for compulsive unbelief or selfish motivation, or disobedience and sin, and leads the ministry leader back to the Gospel, through belief, repentance and obedience. Churches that desire to be rich in a Gospel application toward their city, their relationships with one another, their communication and worship, as well as their service, will benefit to a greater degree by having their leaders being coached by a Gospel-centered leader.

True worship is an activity rooted in the grace of the gospel that affects every area of our lives. Book excerpt: This book is a wake-up call for Christians who are suffering from the rampant - yet unrecognized - effects caused by the deception of idolatry. Idolatry is not an outdated practice of extinct religions; it is very much alive and flourishing today. Most Christians who practice idolatry aren't even aware of it. They are suffering spiritually, emotionally, and even physically but can't connect the dots between their misery and their practice of idolatry. How does this happen? Instead of giving the best of our love To The God who deserves it, many Christians have gradually fallen more and more in love with what God created, instead of the Creator Himself. With our lips we tell God we love Him, but our everyday thoughts and actions may be revealing that we have other "lovers." These so called lovers seem innocent enough because they offer to give us what we want. But in the end, they betray us by taking the best of what God has given, only to leave us poor, empty, and dead inside. Now For The Good News: Our God isn't afraid of idols or idolaters! He is a compassionate and merciful God who may be saying to you today, "Do you know why I stopped you from running after your other lovers?" We may even sense His anger, but it is really the passion of a loving God who hates to see His children damaged by the sin of serving false gods. Like any good father, He wants His children to have the best, and it just so happens, HE IS THE BEST! Even though you are a Christian, do you find yourself battling emptiness, hopelessness, loneliness, or despair? it may be that you are suffering from "Too Many Lovers."
