The fieldwork education process can take place at various points during the academic program over two twelve-week periods in different practice settings. The purpose of this capstone projec was to examine evidence-based strategies which support fieldwork educators who work with students who have failed one Level II fieldwork attempt. The project retrospectively examined one Level II fieldwork experience of a student who had failed and undergone remediation. The author identified challenges and effective interventions which she used that support the student to successfully complete a remedial Level II experience. Additionally, she highlighted strategies and successful interventions used to address the unique challenges of a student participating in a remedial level II fieldwork experience. The author discussed how she used the Fieldwork Performance Evaluation (FWPE) issued by the AOTA to assess the learner's clinical performance and competency at the midterm and final checkpoints as well as data derived through observation, feedback, and reflection. Along with support from the literature and AOTA fieldwork related publications, this information informs occupational therapy fieldwork education and provide strategies for fieldwork educators faced with students at risk for failing a Level II fieldwork placement.
