This book was released on 1966 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charts of surface pressures, Mach number, and Reynolds number distributions over spherically blunted cones in an ideal gas (gamma = 1.4) are presented in the ranges M = 8 to 30 and cone half-angles 0 to 20 deg. The pressure data are correlated and compared with a previous empirical correlation of experimental data. The difference in numerical results and empirical correlation of surface pressures is attributed to the viscous-induced pressure increment in the experimental data. (Author).

This book was released on 1968 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New results are presented for inviscid, supersonic and hypersonic blunt-body flow fields obtained with a numerical time-dependent method patterned after that of Moretti and Abbett. In addition, important comments are made with regard to the physical and numerical nature of the method. Specifically, numerical results are presented for two-dimensional and axisymmetric parabolic and cubic blunt bodies as well as blunted wedges and cones; these results are presented for zero degrees angle of attack and for a calorically perfect gas with gamma = 1.4. The numerical results are compared with other existing theoretical and experimental data. Also, the effects of initial conditions and boundary conditions are systematically examined with regard to the convergence of the time-dependent numerical solutions, and the point is made that the initial conditions can not be completely arbitrary. Finally, in order to learn more about the performance of the time-dependent method, a numerical experiment is conducted to examine the unsteady propagation and region of influence of a slight pressure disturbance introduced at a point on the surface of a blunt body.
Book Synopsis The Inviscid Reacting Flow Field about Hypersonic Bodies by : Victor A. Langelo
Download or read book The Inviscid Reacting Flow Field about Hypersonic Bodies written by Victor A. Langelo and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method for the determination of the flow field about any axially symmetric body shape for any conditions of hypersonic flow is described. The method involves the combination of streamtubes in the field and obtains a solution of the complete field by an iteration process starting with initial guesses for the body pressure distribution and the shock shape and location. This technique has been successfully applied to the solution of the flow field about axially symmetric bodies with ideal or equilibrium gases including bodies with slope discontinuities where no secondary shocks exist in flow. The complete flow field solution is obtained given only the body shape and size and the free stream conditions. The results of a flow field about a spherically blunted cone are presented for M = 20, h = 200,000 ft. altitude using an 11 species, 13 reaction model of air. Comparison is made with the equilibrium air solution for the same conditions. (Author).

Book Synopsis Tables for Supersonic Flow of Helium Around Right Circular Cones at Zero Angle of Attack by : Joseph L. Sims
Download or read book Tables for Supersonic Flow of Helium Around Right Circular Cones at Zero Angle of Attack written by Joseph L. Sims and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of the calculation of supersonic flow of helium about right circular cones at zero angle of attack are presented in tabular form. The calculations were performed using the Taylor-Maccoll theory. Numerical integrations were performed using a Runge-Kutta method for second-order differential equations. Results were obtained for cone angles from 2.5 to 30 degrees in regular increments of 2.5 degrees. In all calculations the desired free-stream Mach number was obtained to five or more significant figures.
Book Synopsis Supersonic Gas Flow Past Blunted Cones with Radiation Taken Into Account by : V. N. Fomin
Download or read book Supersonic Gas Flow Past Blunted Cones with Radiation Taken Into Account written by V. N. Fomin and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of a hypersonic flow of radiating gas past the lateral surface of a blunted cone is considered. The solution is sought by the method of characteristics. A complete system of gas-dynamics equations describing the flow past a spherically blunted cone with the radiation effect taken into account is derived. The flow region is divided into two zones: zone I, in which the solution is obtained by the method of integral relations; and zone II, where the method of characteristics is used. The results of calculations made on a computer of the flow past spherically blunted cones of various half angles in the wide range of M (up to 33) and P with and without taking radiation into account are presented in graphs (temperature, velocity, density and pressure distributions, shape and location of shock wave, and flow field parameters between a cone and a shock wave). They show that the effects of radiation are appreciable only in the gas layer close to the cone's surface. It is stated that the accurate results obtained are valid for an optically thin shock layer and may be used in calculating flows of other than air - gas mixtures. A different procedure is outlined when the above-mentioned condition is not satisfied. (Author).
