Book Synopsis The Bang-Bang Club, movie tie-in by : Greg Marinovich
Download or read book The Bang-Bang Club, movie tie-in written by Greg Marinovich and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2011-03-01 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bang-Bang Club is the story of four young photographers who covered the last years of apartheid, taking many of the most memorable photographs of the period. In this stunning new book, the group's two surviving members recount their political, emotional, and personal journeys through these violent years as South Africa moved toward democracy. Along the way we accompany them on free-lance assignments to other war-torn regions, including the former Yugoslavia and the Sudan, where one member of the group shoots what has become a world-famous photograph of a starving child stalked by a vulture. The boldness that earned the group its nickname, that prompted them to rush headlong into dangerous situations in pursuit of an image, forces them to consider difficult questions that lie at the heart of their work: When does their sense of humanity overwhelm their ambition and professional duties? When do they put aside their cameras and their impartiality and get involved? These are the moral dilemmas that the Bang-Bang Club grappled with on a daily basis.

Many have psychological fractures due to abuse and trauma that can cause conflicts between what they know is true about God and their lived experience. This book explores the importance of psychological justice by delving into the author’s multiple encounters with death, grief, trauma, betrayal, sickness, and abuse. Walk with her and draw out the theological and psychological ways God has passionately brought psychological justice to her life. Tracing the threads of one’s story can open a door of hope leading to a deeper and more congruent grace-filled walk with God the Father, our wonderful Savior Jesus, and the ever-present Holy Spirit. The author’s prayer is that her vulnerability might give readers courage to find their own voice and begin to map out their own story.

This book was released on 2022-07-25 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From USA Today and Wall Street Journal Bestselling author, Laramie Briscoe, comes the special edition of a fan favorite series. Nobody writes blue collar romance like Laramie Briscoe, and nowhere is it more apparent than in the Moonshine Task Force: Special Edition Series. This edition includes a never-before-released short story, as well as all the slices of life scenes and text messages I've written for this couple. Life isn’t promised, love isn’t easy, and relationships aren’t always clean, but everyone has their soulmate who is willing to forgive when it would be better to forget. Trevor “Tank” Trumbolt I never thought in the blink of an eye my life could change, but it did. Cresting a hill driving to my favorite fishing spot, I was hit head-on by a teenager with no regard for anyone’s life but his own. The recovery process has been hard, painful, and damn near beating me down. The bright spot? Blaze. Surviving the wreck has given me a second chance to make a life with her. Not knowing if I’ll ever be able to rejoin the Moonshine Task Force again has brought my world into focus. It’s made me realize what’s important. Blaze. Stella. My brothers. My sister. The ego that ran Blaze away before isn’t here any longer. What’s left is a man who’s holding his heart in his hands and a burning hope that once I’m healed she’ll still be around. Daphne “Blaze” Coleman There’s only been one person in the world who’s accepted me for who I am - from the fiery red of my hair and vibrant tattoos covering parts of my body to the smartness of my mouth and my desire to be matched in the bedroom. That man is Trevor Trumbolt. When he asked me to give up my job as an EMT because he saw the dangers I face one scary afternoon, it spelled the end for us. Now that he’s been injured, he needs my help and my love. I’ll give it all freely, but in the end I’m gonna need him to understand one thing about relationships. The give and take, love and sadness, pleasure and pain is a two-way street. He’s either in this with me or he’s not, but at the end of the day, I won’t let him boss me around. If there’s anything that can handle the steel of a tank – it’s the heat of a blaze.
Download or read book There I Am written by Ruthie Lindsey and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-04-20 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brain on Fire meets Carry On, Warrior in this inspirational memoir and “testament to the things that break us, heal us, and make us who we are” (Glennon Doyle, #1 New York Times bestselling author) that explores one woman’s journey from chronic pain and hopelessness to finding joy, redemption, and healing. At seventeen years old, Ruthie Lindsey is hit by an ambulance near her home in rural Louisiana. She’s given a five percent chance of survival and one percent chance of walking again. One month later after a spinal fusion surgery, Ruthie defies the odds, leaving the hospital on her own two feet. Just a few years later, newly married and living in Nashville, Ruthie begins to experience debilitating pain. Her case confounds doctors and after numerous rounds of testing, imaging, and treatment, they prescribe narcotic painkillers—lots of them. Ruthie has become bedridden, dependent on painkillers, and hopeless, when an X-ray reveals that the wire used to fuse her spine is piercing her brain stem. Without another staggeringly expensive experimental surgery, she could well become paralyzed, but in many ways, she already is. Ruthie goes into the hospital in chronic pain, dependent on prescription painkillers, and leaves the same way. She can still walk but has no idea where she’s going. As her life unravels, Ruthie returns home to Louisiana and sets out on a journey to learn joy again. She trades fentanyl for sunsets and morphine for wildflowers, weaning herself off of the drugs and beginning the process of healing—of coming home to her body. Raw and redemptive, There I Am is not just about the magic of optimism, but the work of it. Ruthie’s extraordinary memoir “like going on a walk with a best friend and listening to a life-changing speech at the same time: it’s equal parts familiar and profound, warm and insightful, comforting and challenging, relatable and unlike anything you’ve read before” (Mari Andrew, New York Times bestselling author).
Book Synopsis My Physical Scars Are Beautiful by : Sandy Blank
Download or read book My Physical Scars Are Beautiful written by Sandy Blank and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-11 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While in a medically induced coma, it was difficult to know what was real or imagined. The injuries were horrific and life-threatening; recovery was a roller coaster ride of emotions lasting a period of four years. The coma, the morphine dreams, MRSA, and the unexpected Oxycontin withdrawal have left haunting memories, which have been explicitly detailed within the pages of this book. Hospital stays were numerous throughout the four years. Being disabled and helpless in taking care of normal, everyday functions was disheartening in and of itself. Living in different nursing homes at the fairly young age of fifty-six was both a wake-up call and actually enjoyable. The elderly have so much to offer, even though they are in a nursing home. History is alive in the memories of these people. They are wonderful to listen to. The opportunity to meet and hear their different stories was a great pleasure. It was both an awful and an amazing experience.

Download or read book Promises to Keep written by Joe Biden and published by Random House. This book was released on 2007-07-31 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • President Joe Biden, the author of Promise Me, Dad, tells the story of his extraordinary life and career prior to his emergence as Barack Obama’s beloved, influential vice president. “I remain captivated by the possibilities of politics and public service. In fact, I believe that my chosen profession is a noble calling.”—Joe Biden Joe Biden has both witnessed and participated in a momentous epoch of American history. In Promises to Keep, Joe Biden reveals what these experiences taught him about himself, his colleagues, and the institutions of government. With his customary candor and wit, Biden movingly recounts growing up in a staunchly Catholic multigenerational household in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Wilmington, Delaware; overcoming personal tragedy, life-threatening illness, and career setbacks; his relationships with presidents, with world leaders, and with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle; and his leadership of powerful Senate committees. Through these and other recollections, Biden shows us how the guiding principles he learned early in life—to work to make people’s lives better; to honor family and faith; to value persistence, candor, and honesty—are the foundation on which he has based his life’s work as husband, father, and public servant. Promises to Keep is an intimate series of reflections from a public servant who surmounted numerous challenges to become one of our most effective leaders and who refuses to be cynical about politics. It is also a stirring testament to the promise of the United States. Praise for Promises to Keep “A ripping good read . . . Biden is a master storyteller and has stories worth telling.”—The Christian Science Monitor “A compelling personal story.”—The New York Times “Moving . . . [Biden’s] response to tragedy and near death [is] both admirable and likable.”—Salon
