Book excerpt: In life, trials and tribulations are designed to destroy us. But with God, my challenges with abuse, drug addiction, hardship, betrayal, and loneliness could not break me. As I recount my life’s journey, His presence has been with me through it all. According to Romans 8:28 (AMP), “And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good.” Hope and trust in God always, and you, too, will find yourself still standing.

Book excerpt: I'M STILL STANDING is the story of a man whose idea of duty put him in conflict with the powers that be, and how he endured the injustice of false charges and wrongful incarceration, turning bad providence into spiritual growth. Raymond Hicks writes candidly about the humiliation that he suffered as an upstanding young black officer who was wrongly accused by his coworkers-the anguish and financial ruin that he and his family experienced as he single-handedly attempted to fight corruption within the sheriff's department, as well as within the justice system which failed him. Hicks, a modern-day Serpico, reveals his story in hopes that no other dedicated individual will ever have to suffer through a "justice system gone mad." The purpose of this book is not just to restore justice, to "right the wrongs" visited upon Mr. Hicks, but to make everyone aware of the dangers we all face in a country riddled with corruption to such a degree that "honesty" is all but eliminated.

Book excerpt: About "Say It Like It Is." Over the course of the past fifty years, "Political Correctness" has morphed from a social nicety to a national enforcement of stupidity. Due to political correctness, common sense has become less important in our society than the need to be hypersensitive to each and every group of minorities within our borders. Liberals have worked slowly but steadily to promote and further the asinine concept of political correctness and have been successful in implementing it. We are so sensitive these days that the mere mention of a nationality or a particular behavior has people gasping and whispering words like bigot, hateful and intolerant. As a society, we've forgotten how to speak to one another in a truthful and direct manner. As a result, we have countless "Interpretational breakdowns" or "Misunderstandings" on a personal, professional and political basis every day. These "Misunderstandings," as Liberals call them, are the result of our inability to actually convey our thoughts and intentions in a direct and non-politically correct manner. Sensitivity to the most mundane and insignificant aspects of life has turned Americans into a weak and litigious people who are neither respected nor respectable. Few people in our country actually have the inner fortitude to ignore the Liberals rules regarding speech and "Appropriate topics," and actually, "Say it like it is." I hope to point out how accustomed we've become to political correctness and how completely asinine the whole thing really is. Political correctness is the best example of what happens when Liberals work to gradually normalize and institute a concept that has had nothing but detrimental affects on our country. Where has political correctness led us? It's no longer acceptable to call the Chinese, Chinese. We can't refer to a Black man as a Black man. The word criminal should no longer be used to describe an individual who breaks the law. Pride in America is far less PC than an animosity toward it. No blame can be put on those who choose to act in an unacceptable manner. We've been trained to think of wealthy people as bad individuals and poor people as victims. Armed conflict is no longer seen as the protection of our way of life as much as it is seen as an attempt on the part of our evil leaders to conquer and occupy foreign lands. Political correctness teaches us "Tolerance" and "Diversity," and we can see where that has led us. The teaching of manners a

Book excerpt: Growing up in a prairie farm family, with a very close-knit church community, Paul Vollmin is raised to believe that a Christian should be different. But somehow, even though the Bible tells him that he has changed when he’s accepted Jesus as his savior, he doesn’t feel changed. And as Paul enters a rebellious stage, he starts to indulge his own personal failures, losing touch with his faith and living lie after lie. One day, as a young husband and father, he just can’t sustain it any longer and finds himself hospitalized for severe depression and considering suicide as a viable way out. Still Standing is Paul’s personal story of coming to terms with the past and present in light of a faith in Jesus Christ. Be forewarned, his journey is no idealized picture of what a Christian should look like, but a discovery of how a real life, warts and all, can be transformed by a real God. In frank and frequently very funny fashion, Still Standing provides full disclosure in its chronicle of God reaching into the darkest corners of a man’s being, to bring light and healing to a life of faith gone wrong.

Book excerpt: The long-awaited, inspiring autobiography from Kerry Katona. Updated for the paperback. Kerry Katona has been one of the most talked about celebrities of the last 12 years. Since bursting on the scene in 2000 with girl-band Atomic Kitten, her turbulent life has made her the subject of thousands of articles and numerous reality TV shows. Kerry released her first autobiography, TOO MUCH TOO YOUNG in 2006, but since then her life has become hardly recognisable, having taken many more twists and turns. This memoir will pick up from there and is, above all, a story of inspiration - from drugs, bad men, bankruptcy, armed robberies, embezzlement, plastic surgery, weight battles, booze, more drugs and depression - Kerry has survived and brought her life back from the brink to become a very together and happy mother of four. Now she has moved on, regained control of her life and tackled her problems head-on - becoming clean of drugs, getting back in shape, escaping her marriage and falling in love again. This is the remarkable, and at times heartbreaking, story behind how she did it.

Book excerpt: The harrowing story of a Native American man’s tragic loss of land and family, and his heroic journey to reclaim his humanity. In 1877, Chief Standing Bear’s Ponca Indian tribe was forcibly removed from their Nebraska homeland and marched to what was then known as Indian Territory (now Oklahoma), in what became the tribe’s own Trail of Tears. A third of the tribe died on the grueling march, including Standing Bear’s only son. “I Am a Man” chronicles what happened when Standing Bear set off on a six-hundred-mile walk to return the body of his son’s body to the Ponca’s traditional burial ground. It chronicles his efforts to reclaim his land and rights, culminating in his successful use of habeas corpus to gain access to the courts and secure his freedoms. This is a story of survival that explores fundamental issues of citizenship, constitutional protection, and the nature of democracy. Joe Starita’s well-researched and insightful account bring this vital piece of American history brilliantly to life.

Book excerpt: The first member of Duran Duran to write his memoirs tells the full story of the excesses, glamour and excitement they lived through in the 1980s. When 19-year-old Andy Taylor returned from his band's tour of military bases in Germany and saw an advert in Melody Maker in April 1980 asking for a 'live wire guitarist' to audition in Birmingham, he saw his chance. Even he could not have predicted what happened next. The group, Duran Duran, released their first single, 'Planet Earth', ten months later and soon became the biggest band since the Beatles. Emerging in the post-punk era, Duran headed the New Romantic movement and with their stunning videos and style consciousness, they set the trend for the consumerist 1980s. Popular with everyone from rockers to Princess Diana, they had a string of massive worldwide hits such as 'Rio', 'The Reflex' and 'A View to a Kill'. They won Grammys and an Ivor Novello award among many other things. By Live Aid, in 1985, they were at their very pinnacle of success - and then the band began to fall apart. At the centre of it all, giving the group its musical pulse, was lead guitarist Andy Taylor. In this revealing and raw memoir, Taylor recalls the highs and lows of an unbelievable period where the squeaky clean facade hid the truth of wild partying as five young men took just about every opportunity that was offered to them. Andy Taylor's story is of an era when MTV was new, the media allowed superstars to get away with lots and rock stars knew how to party like there was no tomorrow. Wild Boy is a book that millions of fans of Duran Duran around the world will want to read to know the full story of what really happened.
