In particular, radical innovations are gaining in importance for large established companies as they can be considered a source of organizational rejuvenation. Some large companies organize for radical innovations by establishing dedicated organizational structures. The present study provides a common basis for these activities drawing upon research in the field of radical innovation management and corporate entrepreneurship, which are integrated in a new definitional framework of “New Business Creation” (NBC). In six in-depth case studies and a cross-case analysis, Theo Fowinkel explores the management of human resources in NBC as the commitment, enthusiasm and self-motivation of employees significantly affect the development of radical innovation.

Book excerpt: Established companies are facing an increasingly dynamic and globalized competitive environment. Radical innovations are considered a means to escape this trend. In particular, it is desirable for established companies to institutionalize systems to repeatedly create new business based on radical innovations (“New Business Creation”, “NBC”). In six in-depth case studies, Philipp Hartmann identifies design variables for NBC systems and explores related performance measurement activities. In a subsequent cross-case comparison, idiosyncratic observations are synthesized into thirteen propositions. Moreover, two structurally different approaches to NBC are identified and discussed. In addition, the present research thoroughly studies performance measurement activities in the context of NBC activities and finds that they are an essential component that has been insufficiently addressed by existing theory.

While it doesn't cover the depths of human resource management theory, the book is rich with examples and engages students through application. This first edition takes on a different approach than the hardback text by the same team. Instead of a higher level of theory that's geared towards the HRM professional, this book focuses on the uses of human resources for the general population. Issues such as strategy are reduced to give a greater focus on how human resources is used in the every day work environment.Much like this author team's first project, Fundamentals of Human Resource Management provides instructors with a robust ancillary package. A comprehensive instructor's manual, test bank, PowerPoint presentation and a complete Online Learning Center make course preparation easy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book tackles the perplexing problem of how to capture the qualitative differences that exist in entrepreneurship at any given point in time or across time, by presenting a novel qualitative index: Entrepreneurship Quality Index (EQI). This comprehensive composite index is based on recognized interactions among different factors affecting intensity and types of entrepreneurial activity, which in turn is impacting the well-being. It brings qualitative differences in entrepreneurship depending on time and space into calculation of the composite index. Besides, EQI is the missing piece of the entrepreneurship puzzle, and the quality of entrepreneurship is a significant factor that shows why less developed countries do not achieve higher levels of economic growth, despite their high rate of entrepreneurial activities. This book does a masterful job in explaining the diversity of existing perspectives, their contributions, and their shortfalls. It applies rigorous tools of mathematical statistics and quality engineering, such as Bayes’ rule, maximum likelihood estimation, six sigma algorithm, and standardization equation, to derive and introduce EQI, as a novel operations research model. It offers a number of important ideas and insights as to how the quality of entrepreneurship can be measured more accurately. It also illustrates the proposed approaches showing their efficacy across time. The proposed solutions are logical and empirically sound; they represent an important leap in thinking about the quality of entrepreneurship. Its contribution is crucial and timely — one that will be well recognized by researchers worldwide. They give a much-needed framework along with the necessary tools to evaluate and measure entrepreneurial activities.
