Book excerpt: How to Stop Stuttering The logical and traditional way to approach stuttering is to try to treat, stop, overcome or manage it. The only problem is, this way often does not work. This guide will present to you another view, one that I think you'll find far more effective and successful in helping you achieve your fluency and life goals. You know that you are capable of being, doing and having more. You know that you are intelligent and are able or want to be able to contribute more to your job, class, family, community and world. But, something has been holding you back. You've felt limited, even controlled by stuttering. Well, the great news is that you can learn to start speaking more smoothly, fluently and confidently, but only IF you approach it from a completely different direction. My name is Michael Williams and I'm the founder of The Start Speaking Training Center and the PRO90D Speech System, and I stuttered for over 20 years. In this guide, I'm going to share with you no only how I have used stuttering as a springboard to excellent speech, but, how I am helping thousands of people around the globe do the same. If you are truly ready to make a change, and have an open mind, I believe you WILL find something in this guide that will truly transform your entire life. And, I don't say that lightly. This guide contains the pure essence of all of the techniques and strategies I use everyday to help people just like you unlock their speaking potential. This is not hype, or theory. My approach to how to stop stuttering draws from the fields of Neuroscience, Neuroplasticity, Accelerated Learning Strategies, High Performance Training and real life experience. May this guide be a true blessing to you and everyone your life touches.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Malcolm Fraser knew from personal experience what the person who stutters is up against. His introduction to stuttering corrective procedures first came at the age of fifteen under the direction of Frederick Martin, M.D., who at that time was Superintendent of Speech Correction for the New York City schools. A few years later, he worked with J. Stanley Smith, L.L.D., a stutterer and philanthropist, who, for altruistic reasons, founded the Kingsley Clubs in Philadelphia and New York that were named after the English author, Charles Kingsley, who also stuttered. The Kingsley Clubs were small groups of adult stutterers who met one night a week to try out treatment ideas then in effect. In fact, they were actually practicing group therapy as they talked about their experiences and exchanged ideas. This exchange gave each of the members a better understanding of the problem. The founder often led the discussions at both clubs. In 1928 Malcolm Fraser joined his older brother Carlyle who founded the NAPA-Genuine Parts Company that year in Atlanta, Georgia. He became an important leader in the company and was particularly outstanding in training others for leadership roles. In 1947, with a successful career under way, he founded the Stuttering Foundation of America. In subsequent years, he added generously to the endowment so that at the present time, endowment income covers over fifty percent of the operating budget. In 1984, Malcolm Fraser received the fourth annual National Council on Communicative Disorders' Distinguished Service Award. The NCCD, a council of 32 national organizations, recognized the Foundation's efforts in "adding to stutterers', parents', clinicians', and the public's awareness and ability to deal constructively with stuttering." Now the puzzle has finally been solved by this outstanding new book which details a completely new approach to treating this debilitating condition. Book excerpt: Rise Above is a detailed description of one man's journey of conquering adversity. You will read how the writer survived a near-fatal motor vehicle accident, which resulted in three skull fractures, a bruised brain, an eight-day coma and having to relearn how to walk and talk - made all the more challenging by a lingering speech impediment acquired in childhood. Stuttering is an awful burden for a person to carry throughout life. Children can be cruel. The writer's utmost fear, speaking in public, would one day be an ally and allow him to present programs extensively throughout the United States. This book is not about surviving adversity. It's about thriving beyond adversity. Greg Little, a nationally renowned speaker and motivator, has presented to diverse groups, including health care, business and professional organizations, and educational institutions. His programs emphasize active involvement by participants. Whether teaching professionals to cope with stress, bond as a productive group or realize their hidden strengths, his seminars and keynote addresses are hard hitting and memorable. During one of Greg's presentations, I was laughing so hard that tears were literally streaming down my face. - Dr. Ed Kesgen; Sylva, NC One of the most energized, creative and innovate presentations I have ever experienced.- Jim Brennan, National Consultant; Wilbraham, MA Dr. Greg Little is superb speaker. This is an excellent investment in continuing education - Nancy DeBolt; Torrington, WY

Book excerpt: Nina G bills herself as “The San Francisco Bay Area’s Only Female Stuttering Comedian.” On stage, she encounters the occasional heckler, but off stage she is often confronted with people’s comments toward her stuttering; listeners completing her sentences, inquiring, “Did you forget your name?” and giving unwanted advice like “slow down and breathe” are common. (As if she never thought about slowing down and breathing in her over thirty years of stuttering!) When Nina started comedy nearly ten years ago, she was the only woman in the world of stand-up who stuttered—not a surprise, since men outnumber women four to one amongst those who stutter and comedy is a male-dominated profession. Nina’s brand of comedy reflects the experience of many people with disabilities in that the problem with disability isn’t in the person with it but in a society that isn’t always accessible or inclusive.
